There was a big ceremony on the steps of the Christian County Justice Center Friday afternoon, as numerous people celebrated beating addiction with graduation from the Drug Court program.
The Christian County Drug Court program is an extensive 18-month long program which has a strict, four-phase effort that includes frequent drug testing, maintaining a job, mandatory attendance at recovery meetings and weekly appearances to drug court. The ceremony was held in honor of Steven Hodge, Kaley Vincent, Ashley Williams, Tiffany Blythe, Taylor Honea, Kayla Darling, Sarah Beth Brumley, Amy Hodge, Michael Choate, Brianna Beam and Kayla Darling. ....

Christian County sees 9 new positive COVID cases Friday; Statistics remain low


The Christian County Health Department reported nine new positive COVID-19 cases as of Friday as active cases continue to stay in the lower numbers.
According to CCHD, there are 164 currently active cases as of Friday afternoon while Thursday had 155 active cases.
Compared to the beginning of the week, Monday had a total 137 active cases in the county.
As of Friday, the total number of cases Christian County has encountered sits at 6,961, which is an increase of 46 cases for the week with Monday’s total cases at 6,915.
The total number of recovered cases also increased this week from 6,677 on Monday to 6,696 on Friday. ....

Ground broken for housing development on West Edmunds Street

The Hopkinsville Inner-City Community Housing Development Organization and community partners broke ground on a new housing development on West Edmunds Street Tuesday morning.
The new duplexes will be two stories and 1,200 square feet unit 429 will be two bedrooms and two baths, and unit 431 will be three bedrooms and two baths, with construction set to be completed in the fall.  Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch says the goal to help provide decent, safe, sanitary, and affordable housing to low-and-moderate income persons, which is of vital importance to the city and they hope to see even more developments soon. ....

Hopkinsville Mayor Names Members of Non-Partisan Elections Citizens Committee


Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch will present an executive order at Tuesday night’s city council meeting appointing individuals to the twelve-member Non-Partisan Elections Citizens Committee. The committee will study the advantages and disadvantages of the city’s elections changing to nonpartisan.
According to the executive order, Rich Maddux will chair the committee that includes Darvin Adams, Rev. Perry Greenwade, Dan Kemp, Tiffany Mumford-Brame, Kelli Pendleton, Nancy Askew, Andra Gold, Faye Hendricks, Rose Jackson, Diane Wood, and Shannon Worden.
The Committee will be tasked with exploring all the pros and cons of changing from the current partisan to nonpartisan elections, as well as the potential impact on voter participation and if it would impact the representation of any particular segment of the community. ....
