Franklin's Jake Fitzgibbons commits to UMass-Lowell

On May 26, the University of Hartford Board of Regents voted to reclassify its athletics model from Division I to Division III. The decision sent shockwaves throughout the school and to its future commits. 
One of those future commits: Former Franklin High catcher Jake Fitzgibbons. 
Everyone started leaving Hartford and decommitting, said Fitzgibbons following Franklin Post 75 s 6-2 win over Milton Saturday night. Then the coach (Justin Blood) said he was probably going to leave, so I was like Yup, time to get out of there.  
Nobody could have foreshadowed or foreseen the developments at the University of Hartford, Franklin baseball coach Zach Brown said. We didn t have a crystal ball. Nobody knew that they were going to move from Division I to a Division III program and because of that move, they lose their head coach.   ....

Hartford to Transition From DI to DIII Athletics

The University of Hartford Board of Regents voted to transition to its athletics programs Division III, the school announced Thursday.
Hartford has Division I men’s and women’s lacrosse programs that compete in the America East, with the women’s program added at the end of 2016.
The men’s lacrosse team went 2-5 in a conference-only schedule this year. The team is led by Ryan Martin, who was promoted to the position in 2016. The women’s lacrosse team was 0-9
Four members of the men’s lacrosse program entered the NCAA Transfer Portal this week, with one later in April. Four women’s players have entered since April. ....

Hartford Board of Education appoints three new members

Making parents feel heard, breaking barriers and ensuring experiences aren’t repeated are some of the goals the three new Hartford Board of Education appointees hope to instill.
Yvette Bello, Pastor AJ Johnson and James Shmerling have been appointed to fill three board positions on the nine-member board. Eight of the nine representatives are people of color, reflecting the community it serves where 92% of students in the Hartford Public Schools District don’t identify as white.
The three members were appointed at the City Council meeting Monday and will be sworn in as board members on May 18. ....
