Hartwell woman charged in domestic murder

A Hartwell woman has been charged with murder in a Monday night shooting incident.
Brittany Traneese, 30, first told law enforcement officers she found the body of the male victim inside a residence in the city, according to information released by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
When authorities arrived at the scene around 7 p.m., they found Jermaine Edward Maxwell, 39, dead from a single gunshot wound.
The GBI and investigators with the Hartwell Police Department said they quickly determined the shooting was the result of a domestic dispute, and Traneese was arrested on a murder charge.
The GBI did not give a specific address where the crime occurred nor did they give details about the relationship between the victim and the suspect. ....

Racketeering follow-up leads to child pornography arrest for ex-county commissioner

A county commissioner in Georgia who had previously faced charges tied to racketeering and shoplifting now stands accused of even more disturbing crimes stemming from that investigation.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said that 65-year-old R.C. Oglesby, who had previously served as a commissioner in Hart County, was arrested on Feb. 3 for one count of violation of the Computer Pornography and Child Exploitation Prevention Act of 1999.
The arrest, while new, actually stems from a previous arrest dating back to 2019 in which Oglesby was arrested and charged with 10 counts of shoplifting and two counts of racketeering. ....

Former Hart County Commissioner RC Oglesby was arrested by GBI agents Wednesday on a child pornography charge.
Oglesby first was arrested by GBI at age 65 in late 2019 for what that agency called a large-scale racketeering investigation, and Wednesday’s arrest on one count under the Computer Pornography and Child Exploitation Prevention Act of 1999 stems from evidence seized in 2019, according to GBI.
During the initial investigation, electronic devices were seized as evidence and the follow-up investigation yielded child pornography on a device belonging to Oglesby, according to GBI. ....
