By now you have probably heard the good news that the federal government and the California Department of Public Health have authorized the administration of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to ages 12 to 15. The Davis campus vaccine clinic administered its first two doses in this new age group at 8 a.m. yesterday and appointments for next week are available on the state’s My Turn website. ....

County schedules multiple vaccine clinics to meet demand of 12- to 15-year-olds
With demand for the COVID-19 vaccine high among Yolo County’s newly eligible 12- to 15-year-olds, the county continues to add clinics to the calendar.
Two upcoming clinics in Davis and one in West Sacramento will offer the Pfizer vaccine for everyone 12 and up.
The Davis clinics open to all Yolo County students will take place at Harper Junior High School, with a drive-thru clinic on Sunday and a walk-up clinic on Tuesday.
The Sunday clinic was scheduled “due to overwhelming demand” after the Tuesday clinic was announced, according to Davis Joint Unified School District Superintendent John Bowes. ....

Apr. 29 California has reached 12 million residents fully vaccinated against COVID-19, state health officials said Thursday.
The milestone represents about 30% of the state s roughly 40 million residents. An additional 6.4 million Californians are considered partially vaccinated with one dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, the California Department of Public Health reported Thursday.
Just over 46% of the state has received at least one dose, according to CDPH data.
In Sacramento County, rates have trailed California throughout the rollout. Through Wednesday, only 27% of county residents were fully vaccinated and 39% of county residents had had at least one dose, state data show. ....

Fly Fishers of Davis discuss Yuba River's skwala stonefly hatch


The Fly Fishers of Davis club invites the public to hear from Jon Baiocchi, who will discuss everything a fly angler needs to know about the famed skwala stonefly hatch on the Yuba River arguably the best winter dry fly fishery in California at this month’s meeting, set for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, via Zoom.
“Skwalas on the Yuba” covers the life cycle of this unique stonefly including identification characteristics, habitat, behavior and the importance of this big meal for the resident wild trout and steelhead. Also covered in the program is weather and timing, the other game mayflies, trout behavior, tactics and rigging for nymphing and dry flies, water to target, and the go-to flies for nymphs and dries. ....
