Cascades East Transit to resume Saturday service May 1, remain fareless
Bend Dial-A-Ride also to be available on weekends
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) Starting May 1, Cascades East Transit will return to providing Saturday services for Bend Fixed Routes and major Community Connector Routes across Central Oregon, the agency announced Friday.
Also, Bend Dial-A-Ride will operate on both Saturdays and Sundays, starting on May 1. Each of those public transportation services is currently fareless.
CET and Commute Options will host outdoor social-distance tabling events on Saturday, May 1 from 12 to 2 pm at Hawthorne Station in Bend (334 NE Hawthorne Ave.) and at the Redmond Transit Hub (777 SW Kalama Ave.) from 2 to 4 pm to provide free schedules, route maps, public health and safety information, face masks, hand sanitizer, and LED safety lights to riders. ....

New City Council starts setting goals on top issues including transportation and housing
Affordable housing and traffic congestion top the community’s list of important issues, according to a survey conducted in December 2020 and summarized in a press release from the City of Bend Jan. 21. Thirty-four percent of respondents called affordable housing an “urgent” priority and another 34% called it a “high” priority. The survey also asked people to choose one service to prioritize for funding, and affordable housing topped that list as well. Forty-two percent of people asked the Bend City Council and staff to increase the availability of affordable housing. It’s no wonder these issues along with ensuring equal access to housing and city services dominated many of the discussions during the new City Council’s goal-setting initiative last week. ....

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) Due to inclement weather, Cascades East Transit will operate on a snow schedule starting at noon on Friday, as described below.
Please dress warm and allow extra time for travel, as schedules may be affected by traffic and weather conditions.
Bend Fixed Route services will operate on a snow schedule with buses scheduled to leave Hawthorne Station on the hour. This facilitates a successful transfer from Community Connectors to Fixed Route services and allows extra time for Bend buses to complete their routes.
Community Connector and Dial-A-Ride buses will operate on regular schedules; however, those services may experience delays. ....
