Can you still enjoy the hair of the dog if the dog is hairless? For craft beer enthusiasts looking to mitigate the effects of high-octane alcohol, the answer is yes, as the new crop of nonalcoholic beers permeating the craft beer market shows.
Beer corporate giants and national craft beer brands were quick to embrace the nonalcoholic beer trend that has surged for years in other global markets, especially Europe. But the small breweries that piece together the booming American craft industry may not ever be part of that market segment.
“More people are definitely asking for it,” said Rich Miller, a sales associate at Brew Crew Oliver’s Beverage in Albany. Of the 24 nonalcoholic beer options he guides people to at the store, only a few fall under the umbrella of “craft.” None of them are produced locally.  ....
