Labor of love behind Southwest Florida Vietnam Veterans Memorial
For almost 50 years, Vietnam has been etched into Charles Reed’s life.
And now he wants to help leave an indelible and historical mark to honor those who fought in the war.
Reed is working on two projects. Gary Bowler, president of the Veterans Midpoint Memorial Charitable Trust, his wife Judy, Stuart Berman of North Fort Myers and Renalto Camelio of Cape Coral all have been working with Reed.
For 11 years, Reed worked on finding photos of the original 80 fallen Vietnam veterans from Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry and Glades counties whose names are on the Southwest Florida Vietnam Veterans Memorial. He then worked on the rest of the fallen veterans for the State of Florida. He then started working on the original 80 pictures/bios from a simple picture and a story to now include each individual person s medals, ribbons, badges, unit patches and rank, which took a year to complete. ....

Berks nonprofit opens center for veterans and first responders in need in Scranton

Marywood South will come back to life as Valhalla Veterans Services and the Jarett Yoder Foundation develop a Heroes Resource Center where veterans and first responders can receive counseling, develop skills and take classes. It will be open to active military, veterans and first responders, including firefighters, emergency medical service workers and police officers.

Gunterberg Foundation donation paves way to move Vietnam Veterans monument to Cape

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial will be moved from Fort Myers to Eco Park in Cape Coral.
The spirit of giving during the holiday season was alive and well last Tuesday morning in Cape Coral at the newly opened Brotherhood of Heroes Resource Center and Museum.
Founder and long-time community philanthropist Dr. Carol Rae Culliton presented Gary Bowler, president of the Veterans Midpoint Memorial Charitable Trust Inc., with a $20,000 check on behalf of the Gunterberg Foundation to relocate the Vietnam Veterans monument, currently located just over the bridge in Fort Myers, to Cape Coral’s Eco Park Veterans Area. ....

Dr. Carol Rae Culliton is the founder of The Brotherhood of Heroes Military Museum and Resource Center in Cape Coral. The museum, which opened in November, hopes to educate the community as well as honor first responders and military service personnel through our exhibits that capture the dramatic events that shaped our nation.
A few months ago, Dr. Carol Rae Culliton didn’t think she’d give tours on military history.
She didn’t know she’d buy a 6,500-square foot building and use it to display artifacts that honor veterans. ....
