On May 17th from 5:30pm to 9pm auditions will be held at the Hoogland Center For The Arts for the 2021-2022 season.

Springfield 2020 Kwanzaa celebration goes virtual

Erica Austin is keeping the faith.
As 2020 comes to a close, she is determined to begin the new year with her family: Her Springfield family.
For the last seven years, Austin has organized the community Kwanzaa celebration that pays homage to African and African American culture beginning Dec. 26. This year, because of the pandemic, the gathering will take place virtually.
The children s dances and choir will still be a big part of the celebration, as they have been each year. However, this year, everything will be recorded in small groups at the Hoogland Center For The Arts on Sunday.
On Jan. 1 the final day of the weeklong celebration the video of the community’s annual gathering will be available on Facebook. ....

A Local Favorite Piano Duet Returns Virtually This Weekend

Mark Gifford and Damien Kaplan will be dueling on the ivory keys once again this holiday season.
Dual Piano Christmas Show 2020 Virtual Edition will premiere Friday night at 7pm. The show is being put on by the Hoogland Center For The Arts and presented virtually through ShowTix4U. Mark Gifford and Damien Kaplan, who have been doing the Dual Piano shows since 2012 recorded the performance at the Steinway Piano Gallery in St. Louis, where they were able to play using two grand pianos. Going to the gallery and recording the show for streaming is something Hoogland Executive and Artistic Director Gus Gordon says is the “3rd or 4th [next] best thing” to the in-person experience, a show that tends to pack the house almost every performance. ....
