While more area skiers have tucked away their equipment for a couple of months (this is Maine, remember?) members of the Mt. Gile Teenage Ski Club are still skiing at the East Auburn slopes. Sunday club members opened up the skiing facilities and enjoyed a full day on the slopes under bright sunshine. There is still plenty of snow cover on the mountain. The previous weekend ski club members made their annual ski trip; this year to Saddleback Mountain in Rangeley. Attending the excursion with ski club advisors, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Davenport, were Patty Saucier, Cindy Spooner, Patty Duperery, Maida Schlick, Peter Records, Bobby Thayer, Mike Duperey, Scott Records and David St. Hilaire. ....

The Willing Workers “No, 4 met Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Frances Carver, Webster Street, to help her celebrate her birthday. Sewing was enjoyed in the afternoon. The hostess was presented with a hand-painted vase by the club. When the birthday cake was cut, the dime went to Mrs. Julia Stuart, nickel to Mrs. Frances Carver, cent to Mrs. Edith Jones and button to Mrs. Adah Brackett.

The Women’s Auxiliary to the East Auburn Community elected new officers Sunday evening at a meeting at the Community Building. Heading the activities for the coming year will be Mrs. Henry Davenport III, Mrs. Larry Douglas, vice president. Mrs. Arnold Burgess, secretary, and Mrs. Roger Conant, treasurer. Named to the board of directors were Joan Saucier, Sandra Oliver, Gladys Wagg and Marie Howard with out-going president Mrs. Claudia Burgess as an ex-officio member. ....

Henry Davenport advisor for the Mt. Gile Teenage Ski Club of East Auburn, was honored recently by members of the club at a surprise party held at the East Auburn Community Building. He was presented a plaque for his assistance to and support of the club. Mrs. Davenport was also present. Michael Duperes. the 1970 club president, was presented a pen set. Following the presentations, members enjoyed dancing and refreshments. The Ski Club has announced that in addition to the regular weekend skiing, the Mt Gile slopes will be open during the entire school vacation period Feb, 20-28. ....

The mailing of 1100 checks, the first of approximately 30,000 to be mailed to servicemen from Maine who served In the world war and to whom the state is paying a bonus of $100 began today. A warrant for $110,000 was appropriated by the governor and council. Money for the purpose is provided by a bond issue of $3,000,000 approved by the voters at the state election In September.

Larry W. Douglass of 17 Surry Lane. East Auburn, was elected president of the East Auburn Community Unit for 1971 at the regular monthly of the EACU held Sunday night at the community building. He succeeds Roger Dubois in the post. Other officers chosen were: James Campbell, vice president; Robert Oliver, secretary; and Bryant B. Tribou, Sr., treasurer. Selected to serve as directors for the coming year were Ernest Ray, Arnold Burgess, Glen Burgess, and Henry Davenport III. Dubois will also serve on the board of directors,  ex-officio. ....
