Trial in New Year's fatal accident moved to district court | Local

PINEDALE â After changing her hearing dates in Circuit Court, Jade S. Jewkes, of Jackson, waived her right to a preliminary hearing and will face two aggravated homicide felony charges in the Ninth District Court.
She was charged by Sublette County Attorney Mike Crosson after the New Yearâs Day death of Shane Deal, of Pinedale, in a fatal collision in Hoback Canyon.
Her March 1 preliminary hearing was rescheduled for March 25 at attorney John LaBudaâs request. Now with her case bound over to Ninth District Court on March 3, Judge Marv Tyler will set an arraignment there.
Jewkes is charged with two counts of aggravated homicide and driving under the influence of alcohol after being involved in the fatal collision in Hoback Canyon on Jan. 1. ....

No singular explanation for spike in January deaths

The first month of this year has been the deadliest one Dr. Brent Blue has seen in his time as Teton County coroner.
âItâs really pretty bizarre, actually,â Blue said. âThese were all unrelated. There werenât two deaths that were related.â
Of the 15 deaths reported in January, 12 were what Blue calls âunattended,â usually meaning it was an unexpected death outside the hospital.
The three other deaths were COVID-19 related, according to the Teton County Health Department.
But the dozen that were or are being investigated by the Teton County Coronerâs Office were not related to COVID-19, Blue said. ....

Jacques is in her first winter running Call of the WYld, a dog sled tour company that runs out of Teton Village. Sheâs not only the first woman in the county to operate a sled tour business â âas far as I know, ever,â she said â sheâs by far the closest to the center of the tourism business in Jackson Hole.
