Grant Edward Chase, aged 29, was one of two men that entered a commercial premises off Newbury, Gillingham, on October 13 last year. The victim onsite, a man aged in his 50s, recognised Chase, who was carrying a short baseball bat, as someone he knew and initially thought it was a joke. Chase approached the victim and demanded money before striking him several times to the head with the bat. ....

An elderly woman was targeted by fraudsters and lost £4,000 AN ELDERLY woman handed over £4,000 in cash after being repeatedly targeted by a conman claiming to be a police officer. The woman withdrew cash from her bank in Sherborne on two occasions after being told £11,000 had been taken from her account. During the elaborate scam the offender told the victim some of her bank notes were forgeries and convinced her a plain clothes officer needed to collect cash from her home. It was only when staff at the woman s bank became concerned and called police that the scam came to an end. ....

The victim, from Sherborne, received a phone call at around 10.45am on Monday, December 7 from a man claiming to be from the police who told her £11,000 had been taken from her account. He then put her onto another man claiming to be the officer’s sergeant who asked her to go into the bank and ask to withdraw £7,000. The victim went to the bank, but was only able to withdraw £2,000. She was called again at around 1pm that day by who she believed to be the sergeant and told him she had only got £2,000 as he asked for the serial numbers of some of the notes. ....
