Plan for 267 homes on farmland near Cleckheaton is refused | Bradford Telegraph and Argus

COUNCILLORS have thrown out plans to build 267 houses on almost 30 acres of farmland at Hunsworth Lane in Cleckheaton.
The scheme by Harron Homes was refused by a tight 4-3 vote at Kirklees Council’s Strategic Planning Committee today.
However the same meeting saw more than 100 new homes approved for 11 acres of land close to the M62 motorway off Whitechapel Road in Cleckheaton.
Conservatives and Lib Dems raised concerns about the layout of the Hunsworth proposal, the impact on local roads, flooding and the failure to find a mineshaft that exists somewhere on the land.
That led to worries that future homes built on the land could suffer from subsidence, with owners left to “pick up the pieces”. ....

Objectors say 'common sense has prevailed' as Mirfield housing plan is refused

A CONTROVERSIAL plan to build houses on a watermeadow that floods in heavy rain has been thrown out.
Campaigners have fought a long battle to stop a 67-home estate going up at Granny Lane in Mirfield.
The proposals by Wakefield-based Miller Homes have pinballed back and forth between various committees at Kirklees Council.
Now they have been refused.
It was a tight victory for locals opposed to the plan, with the seven-member Strategic Planning Committee voting 4-3.
Planning officers said none of the houses being planned would be built in the area of land worst affected by flooding.
But councillors said they were not confident that measures being suggested to tackle flooding would work. ....

Controversial Chidswell 260-housing plan gets green light by committee

Barratt Homes wants to build 260 homes on almost 20 acres of farmland off Owl Lane at Chidswell, near Dewsbury.
The area is earmarked for 1,500 homes in total. It is one of the biggest developments in North Kirklees.
And despite concerns over the impact on local roads from extra houses and a lack of cash for supporting infrastructure, such as a new roundabout to access the estate, the scheme was approved.

There was much debate at a meeting of Kirklees Council’s Strategic Planning Committee over whether local roads could cope with an increased amount of cars from houses on the new estate. ....

Call for greater enforcement action against developers who leave mud on road

DEVELOPERS who cover roads with mud and other detritus from building sites could face enforcement action following calls for a crackdown.
There was cross-party support for Kirklees Council to more strictly monitor builders in the borough after pictures and video emerged of lorries at the massive Mirfield 25 site leaving trails of mud on the A62 Leeds Road.
The matter came to a head at the council’s Strategic Planning Committee when Clr Martyn Bolt (Con, Mirfield) said some roads had become hazardous with cars at risk of skidding and that the problem had gone on for a year.
The committee agreed to enforce planning conditions – including ensuring developers use wheel or pressure washers on vehicles – and requested an update by the next meeting on January 27. ....

Plan for 80 apartments on Cleckheaton site is approved

A BLOCK of 80 apartments for older people is to be built in Cleckheaton, but questions have been asked over whether they will benefit people living locally.
The four-storey extra care facility is earmarked for four acres of council-owned grassland off Kenmore Drive. It will be run by Housing 21 with 61 apartments set for affordable rent and 19 for shared ownership
The block of one- and two-bed apartments was unanimously approved at Kirklees Council’s Strategic Planning Committee despite concerns over access and the loss of the “wild” open space, which is north-west of the town centre.
The project received the support of Clr John Lawson (Lib Dem, Cleckheaton), who said there was a “dire shortage” of affordable rent housing in the area. ....
