Religious harmony: Ulema pledge cooperation for implementing code of conduct

ISLAMABAD: Ulema, mashaykh and religious scholars have vowed cooperation for implementing Paigham-e-Pakistan code of conduct for creating religious harmony in the country. They appealed to people to abide by the code of conduct, saying that the Paigham-e-Pakistan draft was a unanimously approved document, prepared in the light of the constitution of Pakistan. “To introduce the Paigham-e-Pakistan draft among masses, public gatherings, ulema and mashaykh conventions, joint gatherings of leadership of different religions and religious sects would be held across country,” said Chairman Pakistan Ulema Council and Special Aide to Prime Minister on Religious Harmony and Middle East Hafiz Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi while addressing the Paigham-e-Pakistan action plan conference at the International Islamic University Islamabad here on Thursday. ....

The Government of Pakistan, have rejected the recent European Union (EU) resolution of leadership of different religions and religious schools of thought in the country
Addressing a joint press conference with representatives of different religions and religious sects here on Saturday, Hafiz Ashrafi said the EU resolution was based on ignorance of facts and false propaganda, as not a single case of misuse of blasphemy laws was reported in the country during the last six months.
Ashrafi, who is also chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC), said that difference between freedom of expression, freedom of religion and blasphemy was very explicit and clear. The laws of Pakistan guarantee protection of rights of all citizens of the country. The Constitution protects the rights of minorities living in Pakistan, added Ashrafi. ....

Constitution custodian of rights given to minorities, says Ashrafi - Newspaper


ISLAMABAD: Special Representative of the Prime Minister on Religious Harmony and Middle East Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi on Monday said there was no dispute on the rights given to the minorities under the Constitution of Pakistan and Islamic laws.
Talking to a delegation of ulema and mashaikh belonging to different schools of thought, he said the one-member Minority Commission comprising Dr Shoaib Suddle did not consult Muslim scholars and respective forums before drafting recommendations for uniform curriculum.
He said the National Minorities Commission had also opposed the Minority Commission’s recommendations.
Mr Ashrafi said there was no content in the educational curriculum that was against religious minorities. “Students belonging to the religious minorities have a choice to study Islamic history and Islamic teachings in the curriculum and it is not forced upon any individual,” he said. ....

Suggestions on Islamic teachings in uniform curriculum rejected - Newspaper


LAHORE: Political leaders, including government allies, have rejected the report of the one-member minority commission that recommended exclusion of Islamic teachings and history from textbooks other than Islamiyat.
Former top cop Dr Shoaib Suddle as a one-man minority commission last week suggested a uniform curriculum across the country and, for the purpose, omitting write-ups on Islamic teachings and Islamic history from textbooks except in Islamiyat.
Governor Chaudhry Sarwar and Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Parvez Elahi expressed concern and said the recommendations would not go down well with the majority of the population.
A press release quoted them as expressing these views during a meeting held at Governor House here on Sunday. ....
