New Hanover County 4-H food drive program benefits the Food Bank.

We are all guilty of standing in front of the refrigerator, while there is an abundance of food - we struggle to decide what to eat. The simple act of eating has become a luxury, which many of us take for granted. Something as simple as grabbing food from the kitchen or ordering takeout is not an option for families facing hunger. New Hanover Cooperative Extension at the Arboretum, 2021

With action words like pivot, zoom and quarantine highlighting the 2020 workplace lexicon, I eagerly anticipate being able to use words like reopening, face-to-face, and large group events sometime in this new year. In the mean-time, our New Hanover County Cooperative Extension agents share a bit of their vision for 2021.
Scott Enroughty shares the 4-H/Youth Development program will focus on cultivating new and existing relationships. With the recruitment of adult volunteers, we plan to provide increased school enrichment, after-school, and special interest programming. Strong relationships in the community will bring in new sponsors for our events, such as Pumpkin-Palooza, and we intend to engage more people in the 4-H Alumni & Friends group. Christmas past in Wilmington through photos

We ve seen a host of Christmas traditions in the Wilmington area.

With that in mind, here s a look at past holidays in the Port City area via photos to provide some measure of good cheer.
Wrightsville Beach: 1940s
At the time, there were very few year-round residents in the beach town, but still some kids ready to try out their new Christmas toys. World War II changed the population, however, with an infusion of shipyard workers during the war and a year-round population that stayed around 1,000 or more afterward. ....
