Dirig Design ( www.dirigdesign.com ) is a drafting and design service specializing in architectural millwork shop drawings and field dimensioning since 2009. Since beginning the company, I have looked for better ways to streamline the design process from field dimensions to the finished drawings. My interest in laser measurement tools began while I was employed at a millwork shop where I did field dimensioning. The moment I started using the Leica Disto D2 in the field I realized its powerful potential. Now, not only could I take measurements with ease, but my efficiency improved and my dimensions were more accurate. Furthermore, I was able to transfer the data to my bluetooth smart phone and then to my computer, eliminating potential errors sometimes incurred by using paper and pencil. I could work without the help of someone else, be in and out of the job site faster, and have more time to devote to the actual drawings. After a few more job site visits, I also discovered the value of a good laser line level (Leica LINO L2), digital angle finder (BOSCH DAF220K), tripod, and watertight-crushproof-dustproof case (Pelican). . . These tools have changed the way that I approach field dimensioning and have become indispensable in my business.
