Detailed description is MEND is a free, fun, family-based program to help BC children and their families improve their overall health and quality of life. MEND is a FREE and fun program that empowers families with children aged 5-7 and 7-13 who are above a healthy weight to become healthier by participating in weekly sessions focused on healthy meal planning, goal setting and physical activity. More play, less screen time, and improved self-esteem are some of the many benefits of MEND.. . MEND 5-7 consists of one hour 45 minute interactive group session a week for 10 weeks and MEND 7-13 consists of two 2-hour interactive group sessions a week for 10 weeks. Sessions focus on healthy meal planning, goal setting and physical activity. More play, less screen time, and improved self-esteem are some of the many benefits of MEND.. . By attending MEND:. . Families learn about all aspects of nutrition, including how to make healthy food choices. . They learn how to read food labels, understand fats and sugars and the difference between refined and unrefined foods and how to prepare a healthy balanced meal. . They learn how to change their eating and exercise habits through mind exercises such as setting goals and rewards and how being active can be fun.. . MEND is about empowering children and their families, and uses a practical interactive learning approach to teach children and parents skills for healthy living.. .
