A chance meeting at a pub and the casual mention of a big, old, and rather dilapidated potting shed going begging, and a tiny seed began to germinate. Could this be the opportunity to open a much-needed Fine Art gallery in Rutland…?. . Yes, it certainly could, and now we are thrilled and proud to announce that from tiny acorns mighty oaks do grow! That tired old barn has now been transformed into a warm and inviting haven, exhibiting work by some of Britain’s finest figurative artists. The gallery is owned and run by artist, Peter Barker and his partner, part-time comedic author, Janey Edkins, and their goal is to show work by ‘proper’ painters. ‘Contemporary’ art is well catered for in the area, but disappointingly there is a lack of galleries showcasing classy, representational fine art in the East Midlands. Generally speaking, such top-quality painters are in far-flung places, dotted here and there and often at the end of long arduous journeys, so we are extremely excited to have the cream of the crop all under one umbrella.. . Peter Barker has been a professional artist since 1983. Venturing into the world of selling art has been a relatively recent vocation however, but one he most certainly relishes. “I consider myself lucky to have made a living out of doing something I love, and now I’m even more fortunate being surrounded by wonderful works of art by revered colleagues. Apart from some of the most celebrated painters, we also have some relatively lesser known, but incredibly talented artists’ work gracing our walls and our aim is to boost their reputation and get them the recognition they deserve”. . Exciting times! Our walls sing with stunning and spellbinding works, and we would love to share them with you. So come along, browse to your hearts’ content. And if you are undecided about something that may have caught your eye, go and have a cuppa, a slice of cake and leisurely ponder in the comfy cafe next door.
