Detailed description is Phi Eta Sigma and Alpha Lambda Delta are national honor societies for first-year students. Students are initiated into the Texas A&M University-Commerce chapter of Phi Eta Sigma and Alpha Lambda Delta on the basis of achieving a 3.5 or above GPA during their freshman year, after they complete twelve to twenty-four hours at the university.. . Phi Eta Sigma is strictly an honor society. It emphasizes academic excellence and excellence in other areas. Members are also eligible to receive undergraduate and graduate scholarships that the national organization offers. The national organization awards more than $160,000 in scholarships each year.. . The 2004-2005 academic year saw the operational joining of Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma chapter Texas A&M University-Commerce.. . The faculty sponsor for the joint chapters is Elva Resendez.
