Poncha Crest Cabins are designed with simplicity and sustainability in mind. They are passive solar and built in 2016 with the most up-to-date materials in building efficiency to reduce energy bills and consumption. The small building envelope allows a minimalist a clutter-free environment. The neighborhood is a genuine Poncha Springs town, small and quaint and in close proximity to the outdoors where recreation abounds. The cabins are nestled in the cottonwood trees surrounded by nature. . . A five minute walk, you will find the Disc Golf Course and hiking. A 20 minute drive takes you to Monarch Ski Area. And this is the start and end of the world famous Crest Biking trail. A short drive or walk will also take you to Vino Salida and Elevation Brewery and Pub n' Grub as well as some of the best Thai and Italian restaurants in town.. . Information on our the cabins' sustainability:. . l Passive Solar build with large south-facing windows to allow ample sun to filtrate in during the winter months and a custom designed solar shade calculated to the proper angles to keep the sun rays out in hot summer months. . l High end triple pane windows - Argon gas filled - fiberglass frame with zero thermal bridging designed and manufactured in Colorado. . l 8" thick walls with closed-cell foam and blown-in sider insulation. ICF (Insulated Concrete Forms) down 3 ft to footer for vertical insulation. All windows and doors sealed with High-R foam.. . l ZIP panels to brake all thermal bridging along stud framing. . l Cross-wind air flow for cooling. . l Water collecting/rain water harvesting roof design. . l Large out-door living. . l Clustered parking to allow green-space around each cabin. . l Natural spring water flow behind the cabins. . l Native vegetation of cottonwood trees, aspens, grasses, wildflowers, and forbs. Many trees left and protected during construction.
