Detailed description is Volunteers trying to rescue and network pets in Oklahoma.. TOGETHER WE CAN SAVE LIVES! We are a 501c3 Friends of Shawnee Animals (FOSA) is a501c3 non-profit. We assist local, in-state and out-of- state rescues in pulling, fostering and transporting Shawnee dogs and cats to safety.. . The mission of Friends of Shawnee Animals, Inc (FOSA) is to save and improve the lives of domestic animals in the greater Shawnee, Oklahoma Area. FOSA serves as the administrators of the Saving Shawnee Animals Facebook page. All funds pledged on this page go directly to the rescue that pays for the vetting for the dog or cat. . . Shawnee, Oklahoma is a rural town with a population of 30,000 residents. The Shawnee Shelter operates under the management of the local Police Department, and provides 18 kennels, only 10 of which are used. As a result, the shelter does not accept owner surrendered animals. This has created an abundance of stray animals in the community, who are in danger of starvation, predidation, being hit by cars, being shot by people in the community, and dying of disease. We help both the desperate animals in the community, as well as the animals in the shelter who languish there. Animals pulled from the shelter after extended stays are often malnourished, depressed, and stressed. The shelter remains a kill shelter.. . Without the effort of the local people on the ground and the kindness and generosity of all our supporters, we would never have been able to save as many as we have. . .
