Detailed description is The Strings Attached project introduces StL neighborhood youth to American Roots Music and opportunities for music education and community performance. Youth ages 5-17 are introduced to American roots music through song practice and oral history. American roots music is music that developed in the United States and includes styles such as bluegrass, jazz, blues, country/western and traditional folk. An emphasis is placed on song and artists of the St. Louis region including Chuck Berry, Scott Joplin, and John Hartford.. Strings Attached provides loaner guitars to youth who lack instruments to practice with at home. It also awards guitars to youth who attend weekly lessons with consistency, have good practice skills and demonstrate a willingness to give back to the community through performance.
