Detailed description is The SCOPE Program at the University of Toledo allows students to access state-of-the-art microscopes from their classroom via the internet The SCOPE (Scientists Changing Our Pre-college Education) Program was founded in 2010 by the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at the University of Toledo. This program utilizes a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and a Confocal Light Microscope. The SEM is located in the Instrumentation Center and the Confocal Light Microscope is located in the Avidor-Reiss Biology laboratory. Since both microscopes use desktop computers as the interface, the microscopes can be connected to via the internet. One person of our team stays on the UT campus to load samples and another travels to the participating school to lead the session. Each session lasts one class period and is tailored to each class. The program promotes an interest in STEM academics and introduces students to sophisticated instrumentation without them ever having to leave the classroom. Best of all, the program is 100% free to any school wishing to participate!
