Detailed description is Buildings are among the most public, visible and long lived artifacts that a culture creates. I believe it is my role as an Architect to be a passionate and creative advocate for the Client, the environment, for history and for posterity. This makes intimate knowledge of the Client’s wants and needs and the qualities of the building site an essential genesis of the Design Process. . Architecture does not exist without structure and beauty does not exist without light – as a design starts to emerge, structure and light are fundamental considerations in my process. Using Sustainable Design principles and forward looking materials is necessary to create beautiful and durable buildings that touch the earth in a good way. . In order to preserve the integrity of the Design, it is critical to produce very detailed construction drawings and to form an effective working group with every person involved with executing the building: the Owner, Design Team, Construction Team, Code Enforcement, Legal and Financing entities. . Teaching Architecture and Art classes at Hobart and William Smith Colleges allows me to pass on what I have learned and to stay current with the latest information, trends and materials while seeing a broad cultural landscape that transcends fads. .
