La commission scolaire actuelle, née de maints regroupements au fil du temps, a été créée le 1er juillet 1996, sous le nom de Commission scolaire de L’Amiante. Elle s’étend sur tout le territoire de la MRC des Appalaches (anciennement la MRC de L’Amiante) et sur une partie des MRC de L’Érable, du Haut Saint-François, d’Arthabaska et du Granit. Au 1er juillet 2005, celle-ci a changé son nom pour Commission scolaire des Appalaches.. . La CSA est administrée par un Conseil des commissaires composé de dix-sept commissaires élus et de deux commissaires-parents. La direction générale, les directions de services et les directions d’établissements d’enseignement composent le Comité consultatif de gestion.. . La CSA offre des services d’enseignement général et de formation professionnelle aux élèves jeunes et adultes. Elle assure aussi des services complémentaires et des services particuliers.. . Ces services sont offerts à environ 6 000 élèves dans un réseau de dix-neuf écoles primaires, trois écoles secondaires, deux centres de formation professionnelle, un centre d’éducation des adultes et un point de service.. . Pour offrir ces services aux élèves, la CSA compte sur près de 831 employés réguliers : environ 545 membres du personnel enseignant, 40 membres du personnel professionnel, 40 membres du personnel d’encadrement et 206 membres du personnel de soutien, en plus du personnel contractuel et temporaire.. .
