Detailed description is We are a team of undergraduate students working on a project involving the detection of Mycobacterium bovis, the causative agent of Bovine TB. The iGEM competition is a synthetic biology competition which is entered by teams from all around the world. The aim is to use and create DNA parts, termed 'BioBricks', to make cells with new, synthetic pathways. The aim of the competition is to use these BioBricks to create bacteria which are able to carry out new, useful functions which have real-world applications. For example, the Exeter iGEM team in 2014 (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Exeter-IGEM-2014/1489417537962618?sk=timeline) managed to demonstrate how engineered E.coli can be used to detect and break down TNT found in the soil.. . Check out the iGEM website for more information: http://igem.org/About. . We are in the discussion stage at the moment, but once we have our idea we will let you know and post our progress, so keep checking back regularly!
