Detailed description is The Jefferson Symphony Association is a committed group of 75 talented musicians and dozens of dedicated volunteers keeping the music alive. The Jefferson Symphony Orchestra is a 75-member community orchestra celebrating our 63rd season. The JSO began as the Mines Chamber Ensemble in 1953, allowing Mines educators and community musicians to share their passion for great music and performance. The name soon changed to the Golden Civic Orchestra, then to the Golden Symphony Orchestra (GSO). The GSO became a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization in 1962. . . In 1972, the name Jefferson Symphony Orchestra was adopted to reflect the organization's "countywide vision" and began performing at the Green Center on the Colorado School of Mines campus. The collaboration with CSM is just one of the decades-long community relationships JSO relies on for support. . . In 1999, Dr. William Morse became Music Director and Principal Conductor, a position he continues to hold to this day. Through the dedication, experience and passion of our musicians and Maestro Morse, the JSO provides exceptional and diverse musical performances. The Symphony enhances the quality of life in Jefferson County and beyond and is a valuable community resource for all to enjoy.
