Detailed description is Trường Hè Toán và Khoa Học (MaSSP) tạo cơ hội cho học sinh phổ thông tại Việt Nam bước đầu tiếp xúc với nghiên cứu và ứng dụng khoa học vào thực tiễn. [Vietnamese - see program description in English below]. Hệ thống giáo dục phổ thông tại Việt Nam bao gồm hai lĩnh vực, khoa học xã hội và khoa học tự nhiên. Giáo trình của các trường phổ thông chuyên về khoa học tự nhiên tập trung nhiều vào môn toán. Mỗi học sinh trong hệ chuyên dành trung bình hơn 10 tiếng một tuần cho việc học và giải toán. Trường Hè Toán và Khoa Học (MaSSP) tạo cơ hội cho học sinh bước đầu tiếp xúc với nghiên cứu và ứng dụng của toán học trong nhiều ngành khoa học kĩ thuật khác nhau, ví dụ định lý Bayes trong phân tích gene và khoa học dữ liệu.. Ngoài những ứng dụng toán học, lập trình là một công cụ hữu ích khác mà MaSSP muốn giới thiệu đến với học sinh phổ thông Việt Nam. Công nghệ thông tin và các ngôn ngữ lập trình là những thuật ngữ quen thuộc với nhiều hệ thống giáo dục trên thế giới bởi những ứng dụng rộng rãi của ngành trong nhiều lĩnh vực khác nhau, từ kinh tế đến kĩ thuật công nghệ. Tuy nhiên, ở Việt Nam, học sinh chuyên khoa học tự nhiên có ít cơ hội làm quen với lập trình hay tiếp xúc với các phần mềm máy tính, trừ những học sinh chuyên Tin Học. Do đó, chương trình MaSSP mong muốn phổ cập khoa học máy tính ở hệ giáo dục phổ thông Việt Nam thông qua các lớp học hè đa dạng. Học sinh sẽ được tạo cơ hội làm quen với một ngôn ngữ lập trình đơn giản và tạo ra một phần mềm hoặc trò chơi đơn giản.. . =====================================. [English]. Vietnam high school’s education contains two concentrations, which are humanity and natural science. High school natural science concentration’s curriculum has a strong focus on mathematics. On average, a student in a science gifted program will spend more than 10 hours a week to learn and practice solving math problems. Despite having a solid foundation in math, Vietnam (VN) high school students rarely have chances to apply those knowledge into engineering and other science subjects. Thus, the Math & Science Summer Program will provide opportunities for VN high school students to see “math in action.” . Additional to mathematical applications, programming is another powerful engineering tool that MaSSP would like to introduce to Vietnamese high school students. Computer science and programming languages are familiar terminologies in worldwide education systems since their applications expand in many different fields, from economics to technologies. However, in Vietnam, students concentrating on natural science have little to no exposure to computer programming. Even students in physics or mathematical gifted programs would have very little interaction with computer software unless they are specifically in computer science gifted programs. Thus, MaSSP hopes to reduce computer science literacy in Vietnam high school education by offering different project classes during the summer. The students get an opportunity to not only learn a programming language, but also to apply their newly learned skill to develop a simple app or game..
