The claim is that Modern Western civilization has not lived up to its own mythos or at least has lost the plot entirely, so the mythos cannot be blamed for what we see as actual present day civilization. Also the big ideas from other civilizations from the near East and far East (especially to this author, Daoism) will be crucial, as complimentary contrast and close relatives, as well as ideas from more wilderness based, non-writing cultures who do not compose European ancestry but are nevertheless neighbors, whenever written records of their oral traditions are available.
