Not Just Another Number, Incorporated - Ngo in New-haven

PO Box 3490

New-haven, Others

Connecticut, United-states - 06705

Detailed description is An organization that services currently/previously incarcerated individuals and their families. Not Just Another Number, Inc. began with just a few family members of incarcerated men within the state of Connecticut who were dedicated to fighting for change in the prison system.. . Today, Not Just Another Number has expanded into a non-profit organization that services currently and previously incarcerated individuals and their families, by means of legal assistance, motion drafting and filing, advice and more.. . Within the next few years, our organization will continue to grow by providing transitional housing (including food, clothing, job assistance and transportation) for the homeless, specifically for those recently released from prison. In addition, we will maintain a counseling facility for these individuals, their families and children in our community, with in-house psychologists, psychiatrists and social workers, with programs designed to mentor, train and rehabilitate the less fortunate. Current and former inmates will continue to receive free or affordable legal assistance and advice, as well as referrals to board-certified attorneys and other prison rights advocates able to co-manage or appear in court for cases concerning prison conditions, constitutional, civil and human rights. Family members will receive convenient and affordable transportation to and from state prisons, strengthening the bonds necessary for their loved ones to truly choose a different path of life upon release. . . We will provide an alternative route to the rehabilitation that the Department of Correction is failing to provide for so many, knowing that this can only be achieved through changing the mindsets of those with a criminal background. In rebuilding lives, we will rebuild our communities- reducing crime, recidivism and making the world around us a safer, happier place. This process will not happen overnight and will take an unfathomable amount of time and dedication. But when the time comes, we will ensure that anyone who reaches out to us will be given a helping hand. This is our dream, and to see it beginning to take form gives us great hope.
