Detailed description is Smith-Cotton High School is a public high school in Sedalia, Missouri, in the United States. The school serves students in grades 9–12 in the Sedalia 200 School District. The current principal is Wade Norton. Athletic teams are known as the tigers, and the school colors are black and gold. Their main rival is Warrensburg High School, and they are a member of the West Central Conference (WCC), which includes Nevada, Clinton, Warrensburg, St. Pius X, O'Hara, and Center.HistorySmith-Cotton was founded in 1927 by Sarah Cotton. The first principal was Heber U. Hunt, who went on to serve as superintendent. When the school was founded, there were 24 staff members and 21 classes. In recent years, the old high school on Broadway was converted to Smith-Cotton Junior High, and a new high school was built on the south side of Sedalia. Jennie Jaynes Stadium was replaced with Jennie Jaynes Activities Complex and Tiger Stadium a few years later.Sports and activitiesSmith-Cotton is a Class 5 MSHSSA High School. Sports include baseball, basketball, cross-country, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, volleyball, and wrestling. MSHSSA recognized activities include speech and debate and scholar bowl.Non-MSHSSA activities and clubs include Team SCREAM, a competing robotics team, Math Team, Yearbook, Science Club, Envirothon, Cheerleading, the High Voltage Dance Team, FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), HOSA-Future Health Professionals (Health Occupations Students of America), DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America), FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America), an International Thespian Society troupe, Book Club, Chess Club, Philosophy Club, Student Council, and a foreign languages club. The music program includes the Tiger Pride Marching Band, three show choirs, a symphonic Band, and an orchestra. They also have a Winter Guard International Winds group, known as S-C Indoor, and a Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC), known as Tiger Battalion.
