(M.A. + Teacher Licensure) . In Partnership with DC Metro Area Schools:. This program is a school-based teacher preparation program that results in teacher licensure and a master’s degree in Secondary Special Education and Transition Services. A key tenet of the program is mentor-teacher relationship development and guidance. The program offers evening classes along with a full-day, yearlong internship experience in a secondary school. Faculty provide participants with supervision including intensive observations during internship year and support as first-year teachers.. . Interdisciplinary Transition Services Focus. (M.A. or Graduate Certificate). This program prepares professionals to be change agents in teaching, leadership and support roles that assist youth with disabilities and youth at-risk to make successful transitions through high school to post-secondary education, employment and independent adulthood. Courses are offered in an online format. The program offers several unique approaches, including a train-the-trainers leadership component, multi-disciplinary interaction, and self-determination philosophy.. . Secondary Special Education for Children with Emotional and Behavioral Disabilities Focus (M.A. + Teacher Licensure) . This program provides training for teachers of students grades 9-12 with emotional and behavioral disabilities (EBD) in the psychoeducational theoretical framework. The full-time program for teaching children with EBD is a one-year program of study, wherein graduate interns complete a two-semester clinical internship during the school day and attend courses at night. This model is centered on the daily team-teaching experience at one of the three professional development schools (PDSs) partnered with the University. The program meets requirements for licensure in special education K-12 in the District of Columbia. Students begin the program in the summer semester.. . The Master’s Degree Program with Teacher Licensure prepares special education teachers to serve school age children and youth with brain injuries. Students who enter the program with teacher licensure have the option of taking elective courses to develop their expertise in brain injury issues.
