Detailed description is Teetl'it K'eejit Iidlii-We are young people of the Peel We, youth of the Peel, deserve 100 percent protection of one of the world’s last pristine watersheds for all generations to come. We will achieve this preservation through education and promotion by engaging in sustainable opportunities.. The Youth of the Peel are a group of five First Nations youth from the Yukon, and North West Territories. We had not met each other until July of last year 2015. We each applied from our separate rural communities (Aklavik, Fort McPherson, Mayo, Old Crow, and Tsiigehtchic), and were selected for a Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society project which had us paddle through the Peel Watershed along the Wind River from McClusky Lake to the Peel River, culminating in Fort MacPherson. It was during this 21-day journey that we found ourselves with new ideas, and resolve. We had discussions as we travelled the beautiful lands of the Peel Watershed which lead us to act on our belief the only right thing to do is to ensure that these trips are not a “once in a lifetime experience”, but instead bring many more youth into these lands to experience what we have, to protect the peel which holds so much beauty, life, and knowledge.. We believe through meaningful interactions on the land, first hand experience we can foster relationships with key environments while offering realistic opportunities of cultural and economic freedom through a 'no-trace' eco-tourism lens. With specific hands on guide apprenticeship from experienced and wonderful people youth can enjoy the immensity of the lands and eco-systems while pick-up the skills to return and eventually lead others safely throughout the Peel Watershed as a great wealth of knowledge and experience.
