Yesterday, PBC sent out a press release for its May 15th Luis Nery-Brandon Figueroa tripleheader on Showtime. The main event and the co-feature between Danny Roman and Ricardo Espinoza remain intact, though the opening bout has received an adjustment. Rather than meet Abraham Montoya, prospect Xavier Martinez will take on former title challenger Juan Carlos Burgos.
Burgos (34-4-2, 21 KO), now more than 16 years into his pro career, got robbed of a belt when the judges labeled his clear 2013 win over Roman Martinez a draw. Subsequent steps up in class proved less successful, as he fell to Mikey Garcia, Devin Haney, and Hector Tanajara over the span of six years. He doesn’t figure to pose much more of a threat than Montoya, though none of the men mentioned above managed to put him on the canvas.
