Air Force's Royal Ciancanelli, of Beacon, honored after fatal crash

Ciancanelli, a 2017 Beacon graduate, was a member of a civil engineering squadron. He operated heavy equipment to maintain runways, roads and infrastructure at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in North Carolina, where he’d been stationed since December.
The single-vehicle crash on Route 70 near La Grange, in Lenoir County, North Carolina, occurred at 2:49 a.m. April 24, when the motorcycle Ciancanelli was riding went off the road and struck a guardrail, television station WITN reported. State troopers said speed was a factor, according to the report.
Born May 28, 1999, in Poughkeepsie, Ciancanelli worked for his family’s business, Royalty Carpet, while in high school, according to his obituary.
