Hello welcome to the program. Im adrian sending a Donald Trumps legal problems are piling up fast with you have another in type of this time from events onto the election. He lost the job fight in 3 years ago. Trump remains the hot favorite within the Republican Party to win the nomination to run again for president next year. But so far, the more challenges he faces, the louder his claims, a prosecution resonate with his support base. What im decided us most has think will determine the outcome of the election, and whether or not from makes it back into the white house. Before we talk to, i guess, lets take a closer look at what the latest charges up. Hes accused of a conspiracy to defraud the United States. The standards from what prosecute a say is a plot to over time, the Election Results on false pretenses along with 6 co conspirators. This trump is also charged with 2 counts of conspiracy to obstruct that official proceeding. That relates to interfering with congress, confirming victory for jo binding. The false count is conspiracy against Citizen Rights thats interfering with the rise of americans to vote. And have that vote properly counted. These charges increase, the total trump faces to 78. 00. They include illegally keeping classified information to this home, falsifying Business Records of a hush money payments for the adult film actress Stormy Daniels at elizabeth tends to over time to 2020 president ial Election Results in georgia. All White House Correspondent, kimberly how could as follow trump on the campaign trail, added the white house to this. What is the twist in terms of his legal problems . He joins us now. Kimberly, will these latest charges help or hinder . Trumps bid for a 2nd time and the white house in the short term, these are likely to help donald trump, because once again, what it does is it put Donald Trumps name in the forefront, in newscasts all across the United States, all around the world. Its injecting oxygen into his campaign for another term in the white house. And so this is very good news for donald trump is what he likes its, its given him headlines, but of the long term it could be detrimental because what this is doing is time consuming for donald trump. He has yet another legal battle to fight. It is distracting, and its also sucking money away from the war chest, if you will. These are all the battles that he has to fight and its a battle that is distracting from the battle. He wants to be fighting against joe biden, for the white house. And so ultimately this is a problem for the man that wants to become president. Once again, with all of these district sions, i suppose you could argue that the donald trump is unable to, to also voters in the us. Anything, anything new, however you could say the same for the president find, couldnt you . I mean, how, how to the us versus feel about a biking trump pre match in many ways and, and i think you can tell by these candidates what theyre offering. But it doesnt really matter who the candidate is. The American Public has already made their mind up is that americans are democrat or republican regardless of who the candidate is. And so, and the fact that these are the choices is really evidence of that. And the reality is, is that the people are voting really for their party more than their candidates. And so the fact is that many people who dont particularly like donald trump, but theyre voting for the republican leader. And that is true also of joe biden. And joe biden was very popular when he was the Vice President under brock obama. But thats not necessarily true now. In fact, he has about the same popularity is donald trump, when he was an office and it was really seen the deterioration of job. I didnt, well, hes been in office, hes made many gaps. He is not really likable in the same way that he was hes. Hes stumbling more and so really theres not a lot to offer the voters this time around and the economy is struggling. People dont feel like theyre doing better, theyre not better than they were 4 years ago. And in fact, when it comes to bite and nomics, the thing that he is branding is his big sort of salable and thing to the american voter. Well, thats not really flattering to the president either, given the fact that weve now had fits down reading the, the American Economy and, and really sort of the from aaa status bell to a plus is that doesnt really mean anything to the ordinary american. But the bottom line is, do you have another signal that things arent rate for the American Economy . So really what this says is that neither president or former president is really a good catch if you will. If this is the dating game, the bottom line is, is that americans are really just loading for their party and they really dont. Theyre there once again, just as we had in 2016, the best of the bad options. Our White House Correspondent kelly, how get that manufacture date. Kimberly. So lets bring it out. Guess from washington dc. Were joined by adolfo franko, a Republican Party strategist, and for the advisor to send us john mccain from maine with joint. But i dont kevin stein who has a pop up a little from adams doc and comments time, which specializes in government investigations and also in washington dc. Rheanna shaw, a political strategist. Im full, im a senior, a republican members of congress at godaddy with as many thanks. And dave at, lets turn to adolfo up. First. Trump spend it dried it 3 times now has been investigated as we have been on several other funds. He says, tuesdays, indictment is quite the latest corrupt chapter to meddle with the 2024 president ial election and positive on the american which hunts. Lets break that down for a moment, but also all the charges against him and the timing of them politically motivated. Are absolutely right. The president , president , trump, is absolutely correct. A couple of things just to begin. First of all, lets talk about the timing and im glad you asked about that question. Every time there has been news, significant news on the fight in the family corruption syndicate and 100 by significant. For example, devon adams was a key witness of this week regarding the data, alligators of binding family corruption. Every time theres one of these incidents, we either have a new indictment or we have a, some cases, a, an amended indictment to try to take the new cycle. To change away from the hunter, vitamin binding present, and binding out of corruption allegations away from the, from the, from the headlines in the United States. So the timing is curious. If we look at the timeline, we dont have time of the program. Each one of these cases has been around a major buying event, adventure to say theres another indictment coming in, fulton county, and it will be timed again when theres at hunter biden or President Biden corruption story. Thats the 1st 2nd we actually, this is what a weapon ization. Every one of these indictments has been brought by either democratic elected prosecutors, democratic pointed prosecutors for the advantage of the justice department, which is controlled by pressing a bite and attorney general. And garland has a political appointee in the case of jack smith to be clear, he is not an independent counselor to the special counsel. So therefore his actions, including these are altered by the justice department. So this is something unprecedented for american history. And we have, we have a situation where a present at a former president is being prosecuted by his political opponents, by using the machinery of the government. And that should be a chilly and concern for every single american, a adolfo of adam and read and read, or a itching take to get into this. But i just put what put one a more point to you will. Hood, who is another potential republican, no money for those who dont know, he said the trump is unfit for office, but his president ial bid is an attempt to stay out of prison and scam his supporters into paying his legal bills as republicans. He said, we need to prioritize Offering Solutions to difficult issues affecting all americans. If we make the upcoming election about to trump, were giving joe by another 4 years on the white house. I mean, trump has nothing new to offer votes as does he well, he absolutely does. He has a continuation of his excellent policies for the last, for between 2016 and in 2020 any american i would hope every american will be asked. Are you better off today as president reagan asked and you were 4 years ago, and the answer is no. As your report are indicated earlier about by dynamics, which is a disaster and end the president s present of the items by hand out on americans. Odd americans at least better off now to bite, and then they were when trump was in office, there are actually worse off under present or buying anybody who goes to the Grocery Store or public asked or has their real wages reduced in any, in any of the analysis that are done, they were better off under under President Trump for absolutely President Trump is offering a better solution. But little heard by the way, when he made those comments. He was roundly bowed by republicans when he made those comments, a person who was absolutely less than one percent approval of the Republican Party. So youre talking it, anybody can make a critic, anyone can kind of make a headline. This is not representative use of the vast majority of the republicans will continue to grow and support the president by President Trumps report continues to grow among. Ready public is because of this protocol persecution. Okay. All right, rena, im adult for the echoing what, how speaker kevin, because hes the coffee said about uh, honda bites and, and, and what sort of governor on desantis said about what the zation of the federal government. What, what do you make of what you just had as well . What which one could argue right now is that this trend towards using our agencies are independent judiciary as sort of you know, fodder for saying we are being victimized. Thats what i hear right now. When republicans cry out about the weaponized ation of the department of justice and look, this can be traced back to them. Listen at listening to james, call me and, and talking about hillary clinton. When we talk about the election right now where we stand with the price and guided former president , were in a very unique moment in history. And so i think we have to understand sort of the conditions were under right now. Were in be era grievance politics. We also are in the era of voters and building against someone instead of for someone. And we saw that in 2016, we saw people vote for trump as a vote against hillary clinton. And now also one thing to really consider here is how trump is doing his campaign this time around. Theres been data released just this past week that shows that one and 4 donors to Trump Campaign is a retiree. And then also be small donations, are all largely going towards helping with his legal bills. Its only a matter of time until that money sort of runs out and cant help his Campaign Effort and has to continue helping his legal effort. So these are the conditions under which this candidacy, this very unique candidacy of the former presents is, is operating under and then youve got all these sort of what would be called establishment republicans, people with long resumes and public service, saying that theyre better than him hoping looking for the entry way through which they can make the case of the American Public that joe biden shouldnt get another chance of the white house. Now i see it this way. We have a very short set of time until we start to see more be independent voters. Its a factor in right now in these polls and a much of these audiences that these g o, p, primary candidates are going to, youre seeing a lot of the most extreme part of the Republican Party show up. Youre seeing them sort of sergent support or youre seeing people who are gonna stick with the standard bear and no matter what the, whats out there and the vote to capture in order to win the white house. Not just that you primary is that independently minded suburban boat or in a swing state. And a lot of these are women. And a lot of these women are gonna have a hard time stomach age. Many of the decisions happening in republican lead speed houses across the country of origin is going to factor in far bigger of an issue. Then President Biden son hunter by then. So we have to talk about these things in a way in which we understand that these are big issues here out of to do with it. But yeah, we were discussing whether these charges against trump, r as a republican site politically motivated all day or is, is this just the wheels of american justice in motion . Where electrical cycles and who might be running for what office of whatever time. But dont really matter. Uh. Yeah, uh, thank you for having me. Uh, i think the suggest that these charges are political is, is somewhat preposterous if you read these indictments and you are all familiar with the american Justice System. You know, trunk famously said when he announced his candidacy or shortly after analysis candidacy back in 2016 that he could get somebody on 5th avenue and get away with it. And i think thats, you know, metaphorically, what were seeing play out here is a former federal prosecutor thats tried more criminal cases than i can count. I can tell you the, the, the indictments here and the evidence alleged is absolutely overwhelming. I wish i had anywhere near this much evidence in the criminal cases that i try. And thats not just my perspective. Thats the perspective on these cases from republicans that serve in his administration. I think it was uh, attorney general bill bar trump appointees served as his attorney general and was ministration upon reading the deans, ive been in the the, the other case with the, the, the records of since the espionage case called the trunk toast. A others are sitting, theres no me, theres nothing going here but a smoking arsenal is just an absolutely Staggering Amount of evidence in both cases. Whether its were direct witness testimony, his own statements being audio recorded video surveillance. It goes on and off. So it was at a law, it wasnt just created, the laws that hes charged with werent just created in the past year to these laws have been around for a very long time in the fast that give rise to these charges were created by trunk. So, you know, youve got to existing laws, criminal laws, and youve got criminal conduct by trump. You put the 2 together and that gets you indicted and thats whats going on here. But, but adam adam, how, how does the american Justice System rise above all of this, this political month from thats going on of the accusations against it, but it is being politically weaponized. Yeah, im sorry. You cut out a little bit, but i think i heard the question, look, its incumbent upon the department of justice and the prosecutors to proceed a pace without regard to the politics of, of the day. And thats what theyre doing. So youre going to have the political partisans make what they want to make about these charges. The republicans are going to defend trumpet the democrats are going to use them against trump. And thats just, you know, thats just the way of the world. What jack smith and his team and the department of justice have to do is proceed without regard without fear or favor with respect to trumps of the president ial campaign and just proceed as they wouldnt let me uppercase. And thats what i believe theyre doing. And also what, what do you make of, of what you had just these judges api. So, you know, politically motivated. All right, let me unpack a lot of but those guess that 1st of all, re not independent judiciary was talking about to dish or were talking about prosecutors and they have discretion and theyre political individuals with the professor should note that every one of these has been either a democratic pointy for an elective democrat thats bringing these these prosecutions. This indictment is absolutely ridiculous. A 100 space. It is that january 6th. Were bored with some with missions and ill tell you the important emotions that were made. It is a she showing a tactical issue because we have an independent traditional log me the different a g, a rena. Let me finish. Yes. If i go there that much, we need to be sure. And the new text me and youre, youre trying to describe what i said about an independent judiciary. We have an inner product to do here in this country. Its supporters of trump like you that keeps saying, thats a democrats or republicans. Thats a democrat. Thats probably why the response of july interrupt you ever guessed that i entered, i dont mean jacked me. Okay. Okay. Let me check the make. Make it black. Yeah. Q the independent to the us. Okay. Like where do we come from as a model . I mean, im allowed to con participant to does is he always knew the fact that we cannot have the listen. You continue, you continue, continue the program without me, without that. Okay. Me, you the here. So im just, im picking your brain over that and we cant talk over each other adolfo as usual. Ok, so well look at read it just just make your point quickly and well go back to item. It always brings up peoples parties and stripes. When he talks about the judiciary, youll see that thats a trend. The republicans are going to yours. But in our constitution, in regarding documents, we have an independent judiciary in this country. And you see this as a reflection of how americans of los trust in our institutions. And this is something that happened very rapidly under the fall. It didnt start with trump, but its something he has really benefit from. And i think the judge, i really cant in florida who had trumps other case. She wasnt as, as i let me put it this way, defend as hard as this next judge is going to be assigned this indictment case. A 3rd indictment because this amount of ball a vomit pointed jobs. So youll see republicans bring this up over and over. And its really hard for the country because we are, again, we have an independent judiciary in this country out of could from face jail type. If convicted on any of these charges, it can, i have to explain to, to those of us who, who arent familiar with the, the way that the american Justice System works. The way that the political system was kind of, hes still a campaign or take office if hes a criminal defendant. Is there a president here, or all we in uncharted territory and what happens if hes convicted wins or a windows on his been convicted . Yeah, look, theres nothing in the constitution that prevents somebody under indictment, somebody on trial, or even somebody convicted from running for and Holding Office in this country. The only thing that would prevent donald from, from taking office or remaining an office would be if he was impeached by the congress. So, you know, i think trumps legal strategy here because he knows and his attorneys know that the evidence is overwhelming. Is it so his Legal Defense strategy is to be elected president and or, you know, either either himself or in part of himself, excuse me, or, you know, hopefully uh in his mind, uh, a republican thats uh, you know, favorable to him will get elected and pardoned him like for did with nixon, but it is Defense Strategy at this point is exclusively winning the presidency and part of himself. Because barring that in all likelihood, he would be convicted based on the evidence in these case. Okay. Anything is convicted, the owner of saying that the charges for the faces he could face present time but, but he could also just be fined instead of any but, but how would you put a full, the president in prison . A look, you know . No ones above the law thats, you know, one of the bedrock principles in this country. You hear a lot about these charges and they talked about statutory, maximum prison terms. Those are kind of, you know, do not see numbers in reality. But theyre not really how, how sentences or fashion sentences or fashion by what are called the United States sentencing guidelines. They kind of informed the judge of, of the appropriate sentence based on a whole host of factors about the case and the defendants background. And then on top of that, the judge has a pretty broad degree of discretion in fashioning and appropriate sentence. They can succeed with the statutory maximum sentences are under the, under the, the criminal laws that the defendants convicted of. And in this case, you know, theyre consecutive and when you add them up, you know, youre talking to tens of decades of years. But again, thats not how does it have an incentive, just going to be under the guidelines and the discretion of the judge. But when you look at the cases here, the crime is that hes charged with an a conduct that hes a list to have committed in all likelihood, if he is convicted of either of these 2 cases, he will be sentenced to some term of imprisonment. Thats, you know, it would be extraordinary if he wasnt then it would probably be very appealable by the government if, if he wasnt sentenced to a terminal imprisonment. Hows he done it . How, how does, how do you sentence a formal present to present the answer your question . Just like the sentence, any other defendant . Right now you had us talking to our White House Correspondent that were back at the beginning of the program and she was making the point. So do you have you dialed republicans who have you, if you died in the, will the democrats, but it is the motor and an independent versus who, who going to the site the next president ial election . I mean, if it is a trump biking free match and that then not faced with much of a choice all day, i mean what, what are they going to do to . Well, wed like to think we have a Multi Party System here. But truly we have a 2 party system and so people do choose the major party when it comes time to elect the president and they get behind it. But more and more americans are feeling like these parties dont represent them. Look at our congressional approval ratings. They continue to go down year after year. We even feel like are elected representative sitting and congress dont represent us so partisan stripes aside a by then trump 3 matchers release like those. One thing for the country is that were in truly charter territory to have octogenarian serving the white house when the retirement age on coast to coast in the country is anywhere between 61. 00 to 67. 00 is just, i believe, nonsensical. Im an advocate of term limits, but again, im also a really big believer in, in following the constitution. I dont believe in a lot abolishing the electoral college. I believe our Founding Fathers didnt think we would have leaders this old, but its where we are. So its incumbent upon the parties to do better, and i see the r n c. Doing something unique. This time, the art teacher wanted, mcdaniel has introduced at plat. Shes introduced criteria in the form of money or polls. And in certain polls you have to pull it a certain percent. She doesnt want these vanity tendencies to become really part and parcel with how we do politics politically, from the republican side today. So i think thats quite unique. On the democrats side, you see bidens the guy, but who is 100 feet away from the presidency . And as kamala here, she still has record high levels of disapproval. There are Many Americans who are very nervous about hairs presidency, again, a heartbeat away. So i think what well see leading up to next year is biting, and trump are on the ballot. You will see americans vote against one or the other. Out of we, we thought that the january 6th was a, was an incredibly dangerous moment to for the, the us things dont seem to go much, much better since then. Even though they are a little comma, how dangerous some of it is. This for us democracy do you think . And i think its a very dangerous moment. Were living and you know, very dangerous times to the in particular, you know, given the kind of reactionary tribalism on both sides. But, but, you know, you see this was from supporters. Is you know, his core base day after day is like, fast, just dont get through right. There is a point of view about what is going on in this country and about this indictment. That is, its just immutable and is truck is convicted. And if they believe, you know those, if theyre not persuaded by evidence that is presented at trial and it doesnt look like anything would persuade them if he so hes convicted and youre going to have a lot of angry people and you know, a good chunk of these people have hardly shown a proclivity towards violence. So i think that, you know, following a conviction, we are very likely to see at least the types of violence, of our government has been prepared for it. And if the, if the, if the media explains it and, and, uh, you know, with the internet today and what can be, uh, you know, broadcast on that and the ability to the, to assemble and all those things, it just creates a very combustible situation. So, you know, i think its a, i think its frightening time, right . We know weve got about a minute left to do your thoughts on that. You know, i think we are in an area of Political Violence feeling like its the norm. But i think after january 6, 2021 of these, our federal level leaders have, have taken it very seriously. We know circled stream is and is on the rise. But there are ways to counter it. And i think also in the state houses, youve seen people taking it very seriously. Theres so much miss information. This information is going to get ramped up as we get towards in general election day 2024. But i do see there are some really bright spots here for american democracy and a former president who is now a private citizen by, by, for each of our dog are guiding document the constitution. He is being held accountable under the full weight of the law. And again, dropping down guilty and a diamond is an accusatory document. So lets see where this goes. But i do think it is an important day yesterday was a very historic and important day for democracy because it shows that with justice. Justice accountability has to come hand in hand. My things to both read a shot and adam comments time for being part of the program to the my thanks. So, so 2 adults of franco, who, who left his a half way through as always, thank you for watching. Marks is independence day. The this is, alan does even live from doha. So coming out on that day, President Trump asked me to put him over the constitution, but i chose the constitution
