This is photography which gives people the chance to see how places have changed from 150 years ago to today. I came armed with 23 picture that we found that we decided having looked at the images and at the photographs of the areas today that we might have a good chance at achieving the same photographs that were taken 150 years ago during the civil war. The real beauty in these images is seeing the fade from then to now. Particularly if you have people in the pictures that suddenly disappear and youre present with a modern day image it has this ghostly quality to it often. The easiest way to find the precise location is to have a series of reference points at different distances from you. When youre presented with a scene, if you have a building in the near fore ground and way off in the distance, its quite easy to reference those two buildings to each other to work out where you should be in relation to those two buildings. Some of the pictures, theres one at devils den which is a series of boulders. Its quite difficult to use those landmarks as your reference points. Also, some of the landscapes have changed quite a lot. Whether thats the natural landscape or the buildings themselves some have been modified lots over the past 150 years. It was only 2025 years after the birth of photography and the guys that were working at the time were real pioneers in their craft artists and they looked at themselves as artists. Once the flooding began, they would have been taking reef final in a water tight compartment. This is the kind of place they were trapped slowly breathing up the oxygen until it finally ran out days later. The bodies of the crew remained underwater for years. When they were finally brought up their remains wound up mixed together in graves in the National Cemetery of the pacific known as the punch bowl. Ray emery survived pearl harbor aboard the uss honolulu. When he discovered the navy could not tell him who i was buried where he began to catalog the lost bodies himself. I got clipboard and paper and started walking day one and anything close to december 7, i spent many a moon up there i went after all navy, everything of world war ii that was buried in that cemetery. If i figure im right i stick with it. I stick with it. Thats my ship. How many casualties they had and where theyre buried. From his house ray managed to take 17 different databases and compile them all. Hes been through thousands of records like these records of the remains and what portions of the skeleton were intact, the dental records used, all of that to try to piece together himself where everyone was buried, who everybody was, and hes the first person to ever didnt ties the cemetery to try to make a workable record out of it.
