Are here together with one of European Union to continue the work on the text and to continue negotiations. We have a space. It is difficult. But we all know that we have a very important responsibility. So here is where we are. Reporter and right now you are taking a live look at our newscast coming from doha. We have someone there speaking on the debt crisis going on in greece. Taking the can flag off the statehouse grounds in South Carolina. Another deadline day in the Nuclear Talks with ran. Reports of progress, many issues remain unsolved. The president said dont expect a quick victory against isil but also says the coalition is making progress in iraq and syria. This is Aljazeera America live from new york city, im bisi onileere. South Carolina Senate reconvenes in just a few hours to give final passage to a bill that would take down the can flag. It is flown on the State Capitol grounds for years. Senators had a heated debate monday over whether the banner symbolizes racism or heritage. They voted down to take down the flag 373. The house takes up the measure later this week. Its prospects there are less certain. Why does the senate have to vote on this again . Good morning. The vote this morning is largely a formality. The vote is expected to get underway this morning sometime after 10 00. Now yesterday there was a lot of discussion in the senate about the history of the flag, and a number of senators stood up and talked about how their great great grand fathers fought under the flag during the civil war but in the end they decided it was time to take this flag down. To prove the flag from the statehouse grounds and thinking it would change history would be like removing a tattoo from the corpse of a loved one and thinking that that would change the loved ones obituary. In south Carolina Senate chamber passionate words over a divisive symbol. It is also a flag that brings back horrible memories of slavery and again is now used frequently as a symbol of hatred and bigotry and racism. After five hours of debaste the state is not voted overwhelmingly to remove the Confederate Flag from South Carolinas statehouse grounds rejecting an amendment that would have let voters decide. I believe the majority of south carolinians would like to see it up and i believe im speaking for the majority of south carolinians that it alike to move that with a vote. The flag has become a flashpoint since the killing of nine people last month during a bible stayed at emanuel a. M. E. Church. Dillon roof, the gunman had been photographed bran dishing the flag. During the debate. John scott argued the. He was with the people against the symbol. Its time that we change. The debate spilled on to the lawn as flag supporters clashed with opponents. First of awful it wasnt a civil war. Youve been brainwashed to call it a civil war. A slave is one thats brainwashed. Take the smack in the face down. Its not about that now its about the love and harmony right. The senate will volt tuesday then it goes to the statehouse where accounts by the local newspaper suggests it should also pass. This bill in the senate needs two hurds of the senate to vote on it to pass it, and judging from what we saw yesterday, the voting we saw yesterday, that should, it should have it. Bisi onileere. All right. Diane, thank you very much. European leaders are holding an emergency leader today to try to keep greece in the cure row zone. Prime minister Alexis Tsipras is expected to submit his plan for how to do that. He has to convince his fellow e. U. Leader to say reopen negotiations days after the greek people voted down a bailout offer. Now the greek banks are running out of cash. John has more on how the lack of euros is affecting people. The banks are the achilles heel in this entire process and they could take the speed of this process out of the hands of the institutions negotiating in brussels if it fails sooner than expected. The e. C. B. Is monitoring the liquidity of the Banking System very closely, but it is well aware that banks right now are living handtomouth. The reports were hearing from people working in the Banking System is that they are literally the money that they are taking in each day from payroll or from other lump payments between businesses is going into a. T. M. s to be dispersed the next day and that is how they are proceeding, from one day to the next. They believe that they have cash to keep going until wednesday possibly thursday, but only under the capitol controls regime. Its unclear what would happen beyond that point if there werent a resolution in brussels and the European Central bank decided not to release further liquidity assistance. I think opening on a normal base would then be impossible for them. What the situation would be, what sort of a regime they would go to is very difficult to predict right now. I think they would have to have some very limited operation that would enable businesses to trade, because thats the part of the economy thats really suffering from the cash flow crunch. John in athens. Negotiators meeting in vienna say they are likely to miss todays self imposed deadline on Irans Nuclear program. If that hams, this will be the fourth missed deadline in less than a year. Secretary of state john kerry has said the Obama Administration will walk away from the table if theres no progress and if iran isnt flexible. Ali velshi is live in tehran this morning. Ally is there any sense of urgency there in iran about this deadline . Its an interesting question ive been trying to get my head around for the last 10 days or so. This topic is on the front page of most newspapers, its in the news but it isnt treated with what youd all urgency because theyve seen this play out before. The iranian sense or the way its being conveyed in iranian media is that the americans the west needs this deal more than iran does. The sanctions certainly have hurt the economy but in fact, under this new president rouhani, the economy has done better. Inflation is very, very high but it isnt 45 its 15 . Theres Economic Growth and many people have found their way around want sanctions. Everybody wants the sanctions removed, but there isnt some sense of urgency. Whats happening now in the negotiations is as they seem to be putting aside some of the more important harder to get to issues, other issues that were always on the table but werent bending dealt with are coming to the fore, including the fact that iran is now asking for the lifting of a u. N. Ban on all conventional weapons the import and export of nonNuclear Weapons. That is an absolutely nonstarter to the p5 plus one powers that are negotiating in vienna with iran, but it does seem that iran is thinking you guys need the deal more than we do so were going to ask for everything we want. The u. S. And its partners want to seal a deal by july 9 to give congress one month rather than two to review it. Whats the sense youre getting there . Does that seem like a date iran is will to commit to . These are off the record sources in some cases. Some on the record sources are reporting here that no, iran doesnt actually recognize this as a real deal. These dates have never been real to iran. Iran has very much the same rhetoric that were hearing out of the west. If this deem is not what we need, we will walk away from it. The Supreme Leader, ayatollah has said this is something that iran wants that iran is not prepared to give up, including the inspections of all Nuclear Sites and the interviews with nuclear scientists. Iran is a signatory to the Nuclear Nonproliferation treaty saying we will subject ourselves to the same inspection regulations that everybody else does. We dont want special ones for us. You know there isnt some sense that iran needs to meet this deadline. They know very well that president obama needs to submit this, as you said, to congress by july 9 in order to have a 30 day review period after which congress con vote up or down. He knows hes got a fight on his hands in congress. Iranians seem very aware of this and theres a sense that president obama needs this concluded by the end of today more than iran does. The negotiators on both sides have said its fine if it goes into tomorrow or thursday. Theyre closer than theyve ever been but no, ran doesnt seem to be in a russia to get this done by the end of the day. Does the average iranian agree with the demands made by irans Supreme Leader when it comes to this potential deal . People shy from having very political discussions with american journalist carrying t. V. Cameras around. They shed away with having discussions with me about whether or not the demands of correct. Theres a sense of National Pride in the fact that iran has a Nuclear Program but i havent heard a lot of people tell me, i have heard some, we definitely have to keep this Nuclear Program and we dont care what else happens. There seems to be an understanding if they scale it back in exchange for the removal of sanctions most iranians will be quite happy with that. Thank you. Isil will be the subject of hearings on capitol hill today. Ash carter and joint chiefs Martin Dempsey will testify one day after president obama went to the pentagon to talk strategy. We have more. The president wanted to discuss the status of his anti isil strategy, parts working and parts that could use improvement. One thing that hasnt changed is there still is no consideration of putting u. S. Troops in a combat role on the ground in either iraq or syria. After an hour and a half meeting with his top advisors at the pentagon, president obama made an appearance in the briefing room. Flanked by ash carter around top commanders, the president gave a 15 minute defense of his anti isil air campaign, which he says when combined with effective forces on the ground has handled isil a series of defeats. In short isils recent losses in both syria and iraq proved that isil can and will be defeated. Indeed were intensifying our efforts against isils base in syria. Our airstrikes will continue to target the oil and gas facilities that fund so much of their operations. Over the weekend the u. S. Unleashed a wave of airstrikes against isil positions in iraq and syria which the u. S. Military called its largest deliberate engagement in syria so far. Of the more than three dozen airstrikes conducted july 4, 2 thirds were in syria in and around raqqa isils de facto capital. The primary targets were bridges, like this one to disrupt supply lines and freedom of movement, confine isil to the northern syrian city. Earlier in the day in a joint appearance with his french counterpart, ash carter said the punishing airstrikes were possible because of the effectiveness of Kurdish Forces who have been able to in carters words nominate targets. We validate those targets including validating that there wont be damage to innocent civilians associated with strike and then we take the strike. The president acknowledged there had been battlefield setbacks, that the defeat of isil which he called a nimble and opportunistic foe would be neither easy nor quick. The criticism from the political opposition on capitol hill was as strong as ever. Hours before the president s pentagon remarks House Armed Services Committee Chairman released a statement saying the strategy isnt working and isil continues to advance while the u. S. Loses ground and time, but the u. S. Central command says over the past months, isil has given up almost 2,000 square miles of territory in syria including the loss of the border town to kurdish fighters. The president argues while isil has scored tactical victories including taking rimadi in iraq, it has real strategic weaknesses. The president says isils days are numbered because it is surrounded by countries that seek its destruction and has no air force or allies. Senator john mccain dismissed that as self delusion, saying that nothing the president has said shows that the u. S. Is on the path to success in defeating isil. Californias massive drought shows no signs of letting up acknowledge year could cost the state upwards of 2. 7 billion. Thats much worse than last year. As melissa chan reports farmers are suffering and soon consumers could be, too. The wood family has farmed that land for four generations first growing cotton, these days garlic,al fall a if a and almonds on 1900acres, half of which lice fallow this year because of the drought. Im tired. Im not 20 years old anymore and you wonder how long you can continue to expend that kind of energy and not get what you considered to be an appropriate return. For farms across the state the fourth year of drought that become a make or break year. California produces half the countrys fruits and vegetables. Its one out of five people, but you have to realize that i think in almost every small city and town in this country thats isolated from a Major Urban Center theyre never going to have unemployment of 5. 5 . This whole area dependency pretty much about 90 on agriculture. About 90 i think so, and if theres no ag, theres no life here, pretty much. I used to see people getting up every day for work and now are in food lines so you know its rough. Part of the states emergency drought relief includes more food assistance. The foot bank used to take place once a month now it happens almost every week. Heres whats really interesting about whats being handed out here. Thank you for joining us. Stephanie sy is back in two minutes with more Aljazeera America morning news. The deadline extended again in the iran Nuclear Talks. The major Sticking Points alleges the u. S. Cautions it could still walk away. Our airstrikes will continue to target the oil and gas facilities that fund so much of their operations. President obama says the u. S. And partners are determined to defeat isil. The top military commander and secretary go to capitol hill. Bill cosbys admission what he said under oath about drugs and sex that could help those accusing him of rape. Good morning. This is Aljazeera America live from new york city. Im stephanie sy. Negotiators in vienna will work past todays deadline to reach a deal to curb Irans Nuclear program. The e. U. s Foreign Policy chief spoke, saying talks will continue for the next few days. This is the fourth missed deadline in less than a year. Secretary of state john kerry and his team are under increasing pressure as they meet in vienna. If a deal is not set to congress by thursday, its review period will double to 60 days. Ali velshi is live in tehran this morning. Good morning. What is the view on talks from there . Its interesting, because we characterize it as deadlines. Iran said these arent our deadlines. They think theyre going to negotiate until they get the deal they want. A Sticking Point surfaced, iranian demand, not a new demand, that the United Nations sanctions on conventional weapons trade is lifted. Iran cannot import or he can sport conventional nonNuclear Weapons. This has always been something that iran wants. I dont know whether this is a good sign that theyve made such progress on the bigger sticking issues that they are now getting to these smaller matters or this is a sign that iran is not prepared to make this deal within this time frame. As far as iranians are concerned, whether or not it gets to congress on july 9 is not relevant to them. If penalty gets this deal to congress by july 9, it has 30 days to vote it up or down. If they dont Congress Gets 60 days. Sixty days means more of a chance that congress will vote it down than 30 days. But giving rep rhetoric, im not 100 sure 30 versus 60 days makes any difference. The iranians are not moved by that. The rhetoric that were seeing here is that iran needs a deal that requires the lifting of sanctions almost immediately. We say sanctions very generally but there are many, many different sanctions that were imposed over many years some american some by the United Nations and thats what theyre trying to hammer out in vienna. The arms embargo is not necessarily a small issue if that ends up being the Sticking Point. As you know, ayatollah will have the ultimate say. Have we heard from him in recent days . Not recently. We heard from him some weeks ago where he said two of the points of the negotiation that the p5 plus one as the western powers are called are negotiating, they include china and russia, by the way want to be able to inspect more than iran wants them to inspect. Go ahead, ally, can you still hear me . Im sorry. Go ahead ally. They want the sanctions lifted. They say they do not want to expose their Nuclear Plants to inspections and dont want their scientists interviewed. We nope the last few days ago we had the head of the i. A. E. A. Here. I saw him. We were at the same hotel. He was back again yesterday. There seems to be progress on that front. Youre absolutely right in saying that there is that this conventional arms trade is no small matter to iranians and its no small matter to the russians and chinese who were at the table in vienna because they would like to have the iranians buy weaponry from them. The americans may not sell the weaponry but they might. This is no small matter. It may be a good sign that they are down the list to these things that are easier to deal with than nuclear inspections. Ally, thank you. Former under secretary of state Nicholas Burns joins us now, currently a professor at the Harvard Kennedy school of government. He was in charge of the iran file at the state department when george w. Bush was in office. Thank you for your time and being with us. We have just heard from vienna that the talks and existing interim agreement are being extended. Is that a positive sign in your mind and at what points are talks getting extended for their own sake . I dont think the deadlines are that important. In fact, as a negotiator, you never want to negotiate against a self imposed deadline because that might give your adversary the count rip across the table some undue advantage. I like what secretary kerry said sunday that this deal may happen, it may not happen, it will take as long as it needs to take. I dont think we should get hung up too much on when its finished. Remember, this is one of the most important Security Issues in the world and stopping iran from becoming a Nuclear Weapons power is, i think the most Important National security objective of the United States in the middle east. If it takes another week, that really shouldnt be too much of a concern for americans. I know that you have generally supported these negotiations, but when it comes to what ali was talk about the embargo on importation of Ballistic Missiles in iran, is that a red line the u. S. Should be careful not to cross. I think it is and i think the United States will try hard to keep this out of the negotiations. I was part of the International Effort representing the Bush Administration in 2006 and 2007 when the United Nations Security Council banned the export from iran, the import into iran of questional weapons. We did that for a very good reason. Iran was at that time arming the shia militias in iraq that was targeting american troops and since then, iran has been of course a trouble maker. It currently is in syria. It still is in iraqi in lebanon, in gaza with hamas and yemen. Iran is making a big push for power directly into the heart of the sunni world. Its not in the interest of the arab countries certainly not of the United States or europe to see iran to see these arms embarring goes lifted from iran. Its an issue that should not be part of these negotiations. I think we ought to maintain those u. N. Embargoes. Iran remains on the list of state sponsors of terrorism and Hillary Clinton said last weekend that they will continue to destabilize governments in the region and beyond, they will continue to use their promise ice like hezbollah and continue to be a threat to israel. The first order of business is to try to get an agreement that that freeze the Nuclear Program and keep them away from Nuclear Weapons. The u. S. Will continue to oppose as secretary clinton said in her interview irans terrorist activities. Whats interesting about these negotiations on the Nuclear Issue is that they take place at the same time as iran is extending its power into the sunni arab parts of the middle east. Thats a great problem for the saudi says, those of bahrain and kuwait and others. Its in the American Interest to blunt that iranian push for power, maintaining the arms embargoes on iran, the u. N. Arms emboor goes from 2006, 2007 and 2010. Its very important and i dont think the u. S. Will compromise this away. Isnt by lifting other sanctions the u. S. Supporting growing iranian influence in that region . The u. S. Is not supporting an extension of iranian influence. What were trying to do however is resolve the most important problem first. Ran with Nuclear Weapons would be a complete game changer in the middle east, alter the power against the sunni arabs certainly against the palestinians, as well as the United States and israel, and thats not in our interest. I think that president obama is right to go for a nuclear deal with iran, if it can be achieved this week or next and then of course you deal with the other aspection of iranian power that are difficult. You may see in the next couple of months, the United States will be Going Forward with a Nuclear Agreement with iran but also pushing diamondback against iranian power with our allies at the same time. Thank you for your insights this morning, appreciate it. Thank you. President obama says the u. S. Led fight against isil is making progress. In a rare appearance at the pentagon, said the coalition has seen 19 airstrikes carried out over the weekend. The president said the focus is on faking out isils key leaders but warned the battle will be a long one. In short isils recent losses in syria and iraq prove that isil can and will be defeated. Indeed were intensifying our efforts against isils base in syria. Our airstrikes will continue to target the oil and gas facilities that fund so much of their operations. Defense secretary ash carter and joint chiefs chairman Martin Dempsey are set to testify today, likely face questions on the effectiveness and price tag which is nearly 3 billion. The increase in airstrikes show there is more work to be done. Its an indication that isil i also able to fight on many fronts. When president obama described them as nimble, in areas they are driven out, they are attempting to come back and theyre coming back in full force. One would think that that fighting force would have been weakened by now but in many of these places, they are coming out with multiple suicide car bombs or truck bombs using Armored Vehicles taken from iraqi forces, which were originally american vehicles, followed by gunman, followed by other suicide bomb earls with suicide vests. On some days, there are more than a dozen suicide bombers trying to dealt nate themselves. We spoken with the ministry of defense about this, and they say that a lot of these people are foreign fighters, still coming in through syria via turkey. They say that is part of the problem, as well. The Afghan Taliban says it was responsible for an attack in kabul. A suicide car bomber slammed into an s. U. V. Carrying foreign troops. The blast blew the vehicle off course into a wall. Three afghan civilians were injured but only the bomber died. There are late reports that armed gunman attacked a building near the Afghan Intelligence agency. No word on injuries or deaths there. European leaders are holding an emergency meeting today to try to keep greece in the euro zone. Prime minister Alexis Tsipras is expected to submit a man for how to do that. He has to skins the 18 leaders to negotiate because greek banks are rapidly running out of cash. Banks are expected to remain closed until thursday. The major priority is to reach a deal for debt relief for his country. Lets go to our correspondent in athens. John, german chancellor Angela Merkel says shes waiting for a credible proposal from tsipras. What do european leaders wanted from greece right now and what are they willing to concede . I think europeans want to see that the greek government is willing to cut down on its principle costs mainly two things, the amount of money it spends from the freshry topping off pensions, because Pension Funds are no longer viable due to the high rate of unemployment and secondly the state payroll. Together those account for 33 billion a year in a 60 billion budget, more than half of all the public expense. So creditors want to see that the greeks are serious about tailing the pension costs because of the fact that there is rising well, the demographic problem in greece, old people is simply more and more numerous, and secondly, they want to see that the state payroll will not grow, which instead it wants to restore. Theyve been hiring back people who were dismissed under previous administrations. The greeks also have their own parameters. They have said that they want to program that covers the financing needs which the government. They want a program that is socially fair, doesnt burden the shoulders of the middle class and pensioners as in previous years. They want a program that provides development. They have said 35 billion euros are a year marked for the greek economy. They want to discuss the rescheduling of greek debt payments so that the debt is viable. That is the difficult one. That is the one that particularly germany does not want to touch because it amounts to essentially for giving a chunk of greek debt by extendings its repayment into the future and therefore sinking much which its valparaiso, indianaflation. Who needs who more at this point . In other words, how worried are european leaders about setting a dangerous precedent if greece does leave the euro zone . They are very worried about that. Theyve shown that time and again they are not willing to transfer concessions that are given to one troubled euro zone economy from one to another. For example, three years ago when spain bailed out its banks not using public money but using bonds that are to be repaid by the Banking System, the greeks said well, we have just spent 50 billion euros worth of public money bailing out our banks. Wed like the banks to be responsible for that because that would remove that thump of money from the public debt and reduce it in the process. Europe was not willing to grant that to the greeks. They are very, very keen to keep each package discreet. They do not want some sort of regime whereby all the in dealed countries of europe gang up and think all the things that they would like and then proceed to ask for them separately and have these things transferred across each other. The head of the European Commission says the door is open for greece to negotiate credibly and seriously. He does, however have ominous concerns that there are members of the European Union that do not want greece to remain in the euro zone. He said earlier today there are knows that secretly and openly are working to exclude greece from the euro zone. We imagine that he means germany, german finance minister has expressed his criticism that greeks have the discipline to remain in the euro zone. Heres what he had to say earlier. We have to put our little egos and in my case, very large ego away and we have to deem with the situation we face. I continue to believe and i shall always believe that aggression it should be avoided. Against without financing businesses cannot grow and create jobs. We have a situation where the banks are living handtomouth di to day, waiting for businesses to pay in their payrolls to use that cash to put it into a. F. M. s and draw it out. That is where the system is now hanging on by a thread. If banks should fail, any talk of a greek rescue would be moot. John reporting from athens, thank you. Huge fires in canada are affecting the air quality in minnesota. Smoke can be seen across many states on this side of the border. Lets bring in meteorologist Nicole Mitchell for more. What are the weather conditions fueling these fires . The same thing we have been seeing the high heat dries out the vegetation. You mentioned the air quality minnesota all the way to Washington State were having poor air quality because of smoke. These are under the red flag warning, most at risk for the fire danger. You need to be careful in these areas, temperatures in the 80s and 90s, low humidity, high heat is drying everything out putting us more at risk for fires than we already would be. Doesnt look until friday and saturday, forecast a lot of 80s and 90s that we start to get a little break in that temperature. You can see into the afternoon hours, the early frames of this, a little more activity westward. There could ration lated thunderstorms tailed in the west. That sounds like great news but theyre mostly dry to spark fires. At risk is a lot of rain from the south missouri to the accident dealing with Different Levels of flood warnings. South Carolina Senate is reconvening in a couple hours set to give final approval to removing the Confederate Flag from state how else grounds. Senators had a heated debate monday over whether it symbolizes racism or heritage and voted 373 to take down the flag. Diane is live outside South Carolinas capitol in columbia. 15 years ago when i was a reporter in South Carolina this was a contentious debate in the legislature, but this bill seems like its going to breeze through. It seems that way. The vote this morning in the senate is largely going to be a formality, and we may not see the kind of lively debate today that we saw on the senate floor yesterday. To remove the flag from the statehouse grounds and thinking it would change history would be like removing a tattoo from the corpse of a loved one and thinking that that would change the loved ones obituary. In south Carolina Senate chamber monday, passionate words over a divisive symbol. It is also a flag that brings back horrible memories of slavery and again is now used frequently as a symbol of hatred and bigotry and racism. After five hours of debate, the state voted overwhelmingly to remove the Confederate Flag from South Carolinas statehouse grounds, rejecting an amendment that would have let voters decide. I believe the majority of south carolinians would like to see it up and i believe im speaking for the majority of south carolinians and id like to prove that with a vote. The flag has become a flashpoint since the killing of nine people last month during a bible stayed at emanuel a. M. E. Church. Dillon roof, the gunman had been photographed brandishing the flag. During the debate. John scott argued that he was with the people against the symbol. Its time that we change. The debate spilled on to the lawn as flag supporters clashed with opponents. First of awful, it wasnt a civil war. Youve been brainwashed to call it a civil war. A slave is one thats brainwashed. Take the smack in the face down. Its not about that anymore, its about the love and harmony, right. The senate will volt tuesday, then it goes to the statehouse where accounts by the local newspaper suggest it should also pass. The House Speaker the vote can go as quickly as in the senate. Its hard to say. Amendments are being proposed on the bill in the house and that could go to Committee First which could tie things up a bit. Live for us in South Carolina, thank you. Leo woodbury is a pastor in South Carolina. He has worked to nationalize the take down the Flag Campaign since the mid 1990s. He joins me via skype. Leo and i have known each other for some 15 years since i was a reporter down there in flourens. You have been fighting against this flag for a long time. Does it seem your side is going to win this, this time around . Yes it does, stephanie and thank you for the opportunity to share with your audience what appears to be a great historical moment in the history of our country. It does appear that we will win this battle. However, we have to be very, very careful in terms of amendments and compromise, because it was compromised in the in 2000 that kept the flag up there. Perhaps if it wasnt so prominently displayed that maybe mr. Roof would not have attached that symbol to his warmed ideology, which resulted in the death of nine fine human beings. Its been weeks since the shooting in charleston and what wasnt accomplished in decades was decided basically in less than a month. It does seem that the legislature will take that flag down. What is it about the charleston massacre that seemed to change minds about what the flag represents . Well, for one it brought it home to the let me legislators. Pastor clementee pink theyve and i were colleagues. It brought it home to the legislators to see one of them brought down over such an issue like this. Thats one thing whether things are personalized, it often changes their world view on things. Has it changed views leo or has this divided communities even more . We still interview folks down in South Carolina who believe that represents history and heritage and being a proud southerner. Thats part of the divisiveness is trying to tie the flag to history. Its not so much a historical symbol as it is an affront to not only africanamericans, but women, other people of color and even white south carolinians who have been battling to have some symbol removed. When it comes to the clergy in the Faithbased Community which i wish would be more vocal about this issue not only in terms of peace and harmony but as people of faith whenever other people are hurting its our duty as people of faith to make sure that we deal with their hurt and we remove those things that are hurting them. One of the things that we find is that when you look at the word righteousness in he brew says that means not only righteous, but also justice. You cant have righteousness without justice, so i wish that we would have more of our faith leaders who he would would speak of this not being a symbol of history, but of injustice. Pat tore joining us from South Carolina, good to see you old friend. Good to see you, as well, stephanie. Stay blessed. A cancer doctor is being sentenced this week after bleeding guilty to giving treatments to patients who didnt need them. The doctor is accused of filing false claims and money laundering. As is the 1. 5 million home he lived in with his family, seized by the government. The department of justice also confiscated medical records. They estimate that the doctor fleeced the government private Insurance Companies and patients of at least 20 million. After the f. B. I. Raided his office. They gave Patricia Hester her medical records which she brought to another oncologist who gave her shocking news, no evidence of m. D. S. No evidence of any cancer. It was all a lie. Patricia made the doctor write it down. This is like surreal. Its like how can we do that. How can you do that to somebody . And to my family . The doctor pleaded guilty to multiple accounts of Health Care Fraud and money laundering. Patricia and mike want him to spend the rest of his life in prison and thats what the Justice Department is asking for. So many questions remain about how this fraud could have gone on for so long without anyone noticing. Later this week, well tell you more about what happened when a tip came into the f. B. I. On the healthbeat this morning a new study finds people with brain injuries may heal faster if they get up and move that that goes against conventional wisdom. Doctors thought it was best to let the brain rest after a neurological injury, until a few doctors who suspected otherwise conducted a new study. Plenty of Research Says getting patients up and out of bed helps their recovery. Brain injuries have long been an exception to that rule. Rest was believed to be better than moving around too much, but no one had actually studied whether that long standing assumption is actually correct. Researchers at the collide clinic tracked more than 600 patients getting half of them up and moving as early as their first day in the i. C. U. Sometimes, that meant just a few steps from bed to chair with a lot of assistance. The difference was noticeable. The study found patients who started their rehabilitation earlier spent less time in intensive care and in the hospital. Most said they felt a lot better.
