Hooks were baited and lines were cast Saturday morning in Freeman Lake as more than 100 children participated in the Elizabethtown Parks and Recreation free kids fishing derby.
Families, with camping chairs and poles in hand, checked in with parks and recreation staff before finding a spot on the bank to set up.
Barry Watwood attended the fishing derby with is 6-year-old grandson, Henson Sloan.
“He likes to fish a lot and it looked like a good opportunity to come out today,” Watwood said.
Also making it a family affair were the Stillwells. Amanda Stillwell said they typically stick to fishing at family ponds. Saturday was their first time bringing their children out to fish in something a little bigger, she said.
