He arrived at the capitol, President Biden and the first lady, walking up to the table where sicknicks remains were lying. Putting their hearts over the heart paying tributes. There was one other moment captured but was brief which symbolized what this represented. We saw biden walk to up several wreaths and just shook his head, seemingly projecting how senseless this was, this death of this officer, after that capitol attack. Laura. Josh, weve seen so many hours, everyone has, of footage of protesters storming the capitol that day. Investigators are having a hard time building a case. Its amazing theyre having a hard time finding evidence that actually showed whos responsible for sicknicks death. Reporter absolutely, we know that former officers have been arresting rioters from coast to coast based on some of that video of the riot that day. As you mentioned, we still have not gotten details about where the investigation stands as relates to the Murder Investigation of former officer sicknick. We are learning from our sources that it appears as though he did not suffer any type of blunt force trauma. However, were told on the evening of the attack he had collapsed, later succumbed, died, as a result of those injuries. Authorities have not pinpointed an actual perpetrator but the investigation is under way. Josh, we know youre on top of it as the rest of the team. Singularly responsible, with those word, blaming former President Trump for inciting that insurrection at the cap te capitol. They write, there is no january exception to impeachment or any other provision of the constitution. These Search Warrants were executed at properties in Orange County, california, that public records indicate belong to taylor excuse me, Russell Taylor and allen hofstetter. Theyve prompted Conspiracy Theories ranging from qanon to the deep state and the pandemic. And then the election. They came out with riot police and then went to the streets and started detaining people. Mass detention that we saw. Just a lot of people being put in those police buses and being wheeled away. The latest number i have for you is that more than 1100 people were detained just in moscow throughout the course of the day yesterday. But it certainly was a remarkable trial that we saw in moscow yesterday. Alexei navalny really going out there and ripping into Vladimir Putin. He said that Vladimir Putin will be remembered as, quote, putin the poisoner in the future. Thats an extremely dangerous thing to say in a public trial here, in the russian federation. Of course, we had that verdict. Hes going to spend at least 2. 5 years in jail. Its a 3. 5 suspended Jail Sentence thats been turned into a real sentence. Hes served some time so that will be deducted. We did manage to reach the kremlin. They justified everything that happened here last night. They said the Police Response was justified. Also in the past theyve bth loathe to mention navalnys name. They now call him the convict. And the quote is the convict does not decide how Vladimir Putin will be remembered in the future. Laura. Fred, this level of protest isnt something you normally see in russia. I know its something you mentioned a lot on this issue. So how does Vladimir Putin weather this growing resistance . Reporter well, i think that its certainly put him in a very difficult place. And thats something that hasnt happened here in a very long time. There have been obviously been protests in the past there have been larger protests in the past in moscow. But certainly, to have protests like this throughout the entire country as weve seen over the past couple of weekends, that is something that does make all of this a lot more challenging, for the kremlin. So far, you know, as you just reported, the kremlin shows no sign of backing down or trying to give into any of the demands that the protesters have. But one of the things we have to keep in mind, laura, in all of this, the protesters that were speaking to coming out, many of them saying Alexei Navalny is one of the reasons theyre coming out, but general discontent with some of the situations in this country, as far as free speech is concerned, economics is concerned, as far as future perspectives for people are concerned those are the main reasons people are taking to the streets. And it doesnt look like theyre resolved anytime soon. Such an important point. This is a larger issue. And navalny, of course, is symptomatic of it. Fred, thank you for your reporting on this.
