That moment, 9 59 a. M. , is the moment that the South Tower fell. This behind me is the South Tower memorial where we have seen families since early this morning coming to lay roses, flowers, flags and place them on the names of their Loved Ones. Lives lost 23 years ago today. 23,000 people here. Nearly 3000 victims. We saw Jd Vance standing next to Mike Bloomberg, the chairman of the 9 11 memorial. Still in attendance here , moments ago, standing next to Kamala Harris and President Biden to attend a brief moment of unity we can say, to mark this moment in our nations history. I know you are just a few feet away from the 9 11 Memorial Site and the waterfalls that go into the earth where the towers at one time stood. I remember being there covering the aftermath of 9 11 when the towers had collapsed. You would see the Pile And Everything going on at Ground Zero during the recovery process. To be there today, and every time i go, it takes my breath away to be there on site. It absolutely has. To put it one way, it is all the things. We are hearing the bagpipes and hearing the bustling wild city that is new York City come to silence when the first Moment Of Silence came about. It is so striking. You do feel the weight of it. You feel the weight of the moment with all the Security And Everyone i have come across. You do see it and you feel it and you hear it in the voices of the Family Members as they are reading their Loved Ones names out loud. John miller noted earlier today that if you could look up with me, it is a bluebird day in new York City. As john noted, that is exactly what it looks like on that day, on what was the beginning of a beautiful morning on september 11th, 23 years ago now, the day that changed everything. I want to go back to Ground Zero in new york. A number of the nations leaders have gathered there this morning and including the two people competing to become the next president. Kate, you were talking about this a few moments ago. It was remarkable to see the former President And Vice president , harris and President Biden all within a few feet of one another and it was just a very different scene there. Can you tell us about it . It really was. When you think of 12 hours ago, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump had never met facetoface. They meet on a Debate Stage for what was a hugely contentious and consequential moment when they faced off on the Debate Stage in the selection. Less than 12 hours later, they are standing sidebyside essentially for a second time, even closer then when they were on the Debate Stage. And in between them, Kamala Harris , Joe Biden, Mike Bloomberg and Donald Trump. It appeared as we watched it, you can see in the video that Mike Bloomberg really facilitated and brought about a moment that everyone, i would say Needed. , Harris And Donald trump shaking hands. I would say coming into this this morning, there was a thought in my mind and probably yours as well, is knowing that if they came across Each Other, what that would look like, and a place that politics should be nowhere near and this is a place where it is about the families and remembering and seeing them take a moment to shake hands. It was a good thing. Albeit brief. A brief moment of unity. It was a good thing. Whenever we can have a moment of unity and perhaps it has been being there at Ground Zero. It shakes you to the core all these years later. I remember and we all remember President Bush when he stood there Ground Zero and called the country unified. It can still be that way again. Some of whom worked with you and they say that you are a disgrace. Let me tell you about World Leaders. The Prime Minister of hungary, they said, why is the whole world blowing up three years ago and it wasnt before. Wise blowing up . He said because you need trump back as president. They were afraid of him. One does not have to abandon their faith or deeply held beliefs to agree. The government and Donald Trump certainly should not be telling a woman what to do with her body. What i did was something for 52 years. They have been trying to get Roe V wade into the states. And through the Genius And Heart and strength of six Supreme Court justices, we were able to do that. I believe in the exceptions for rape, Incest And Life of the mother. Crime in this country is through the roof and we have a new form of crime called migrant crime and it is happening at levels that nobody thought possible. I think this is so rich coming from someone who has been prosecuted for national security crimes, economic crimes, election interference. Has been found liable for Sexual Assault and his next big Court Appearance is in november at his own criminal sentencing. She did Things Nobody would ever think of. Now she wants to do transgender operations on illegal aliens that are in prison. This is a radical left liberal. What they have done to our country by allowing these millions and millions of people to come into our country and look at what is happening to the towns. In springfield, they are eating the dogs. The people that came in are eating the cats. Eating the dogs. They are eating the pets of the people that live there. I will actually do something really unusual and i will invite you to attend one of Donald Trumps rallies. It is a really interesting thing to watch you will see during the course of his rallies, he talks about fictional characters like hannibal lecter. You will talk about windmills cause cancer and what you will also note is that people start leaving his rallies early out of exhaustion and boredom. She said people start leaving. People dont go to her rallies. There is no reason to go pick the people that do go, she is bussing them in and paying them to be there and then showing them in a different light. So she Cant Talk about that. People dont leave my rallies. They are destroying the economy. They have no idea what a good economy is. And remember this, she is biden. She is trying to get away from biden. I dont know the gentleman, she says. She is biden. Clearly, im not Joe Biden and im certainly not Donald Trump. What i do offer is a new generation of leadership for our country. This morning, the campaigns are offering their take on last Nights Debate. Vice president Kamala Harris calling the showdown a great day and saying that she is the underdog in the race. Last night, she neatly called for a second round. The debate with trump for his part, the president said he doesnt know if you want to face harris again. He is arguing without evidence at the debate was rigged. Lets discuss with our Senior Advisor for President Bidens 2020 campaign and the former deputy to Medication Director for the trump 2016 campaign. How did trump do Last Night, in your view . First of all, thank you for having me. I think the debate achieved a couple of things for President Trump. If you look at the polling data, the country is moving in the direction of believing, layers was an extreme liberal. I think the debate Last Night did nothing to move course from that. Clearly moving in a direction of people believing she is an extreme liberal from San Francisco which is dangerous for america. I think from that standpoint, he did very well. Establish that i think from the standpoint of not insulting. I think everybody was anticipating that he would be rated into being insulted. And they said they would call her nasty things. That did not happen as well. The debate i think was short on policy. I would have liked to have more of Donald Trump executing the case or prosecuting the case against, here is being this copilot in this horrible economy but we did not get to that. That is coming up short but we will continue to do that pick overall, looking at it from the trump campaign, you had the Trade Lines showing that, harris was leaning in the extreme liberal direction. I think this debate pushed her over. Specifically with his bizarre San Francisco liberal position where she wants six changes for illegal immigrants. That is not where the country is. She helped paint herself as an extreme liberal even further. Brian, what is that coming from . It is coming from her position. She took the position as the d. A. Of San Francisco where she demanded and pushed jails to offer transgender operations to prisoners there. That was the priority of her when she was a District Attorney of San Francisco. She sent letters to the jail saying this Needed to be done. When she became the attorney general, this became a signature issue. She wanted to bring transgender operations into the prisons that need to be taxpayerfunded. Brian, what about eating cats and dogs . Where did he get that from . I saw a friend of mine, jason, a colleague of mine on this morning that pointed to the federal society. I did what he asked. I look at the website. I saw the video. I think that is where it came from. They were talking about eating ducks and other birds. I dont know that it was dogs or cats. I think there is evidence and video. You are trying a little too hard here i think. I think at face value, when people go make a complaint, especially when Jd Vance is a senator and say, we have a problem with that, Jd Vance has a responsibility to bring it forward and it will be investigated and it looks like the City Manager has. I think you are barking up the wrong tree there. He will keep filibustering this with the same lies Donald Trump perpetuated Last Night. That is not true on the, harris d. A. Record and not true when it comes to what happened in ohio and they were fact checking that in realtime. The reality is that Vice President harris looked president ial Last Night and the moderators did a great job checking Donald Trump. And i dont think they are liberal policies when she is talking about the economy that would give firsttime homeowners a benefit in order to purchase their first home for a startup. Donald trump even brought up Student Loans and we did not even have a chance for her to get to that. One out of 10 barbers have had loans forgiven. I think Vice President harris did an amazing job and she obviously baited into a lot of this crazy rhetoric that brian is spewing as well about eating dogs and cats and this transgender alien sex change. These are not the things american people want from a president whether they are republican or democrat. She showed herself to be president ial Last Night and Donald Trump showed us who he is. This older man who was out of touch and not fit for the highest office in the land. One of the things i noticed Last Night and a lot of people picked up on, is the way she tried to command the stage from the first moment, walking up to trump and basically forcing him to shake hands and then throughout the debate, the microphones were muted at times and sometimes they were not. The facial expressions she was putting on display. Basically looking at him quizzically when he would say things about eating dogs and so on. She owned the debate. She showed she is unafraid of Donald Trump and it shows she is unafraid of World Leaders as they have threats to the american people. Also the facial expressions, im a Communications Professional at i do a lot of media training. The majority of your medication is nonverbal and we know that from being on television. She knew the american people were watching and she knew she had to react to his blatant lies with that two screen. This is not new for Kamala Harris. She is going to make sure that people know what he says is factually inaccurate and out there but she is not going to spend her time, and she did Last Night, responding to him. She was talking to the american people Last Night. The facial expressions said, this is crazy. He is lying. But i will talk about my policies i have for the american people. Brian, you talked about Donald Trump taking the bait Last Night. Here is one trap that he fell into. Lets listen to this. Im going to do something unusual and im going to invite you to attend one of Donald Trumps rallies. It is an interesting thing to watch. You will see during the course of his rallies, he talks about fictional characters like hannibal lecter. You will talk about windmills cause cancer. And what you will also notice is that people start leaving his rallies early out of exhaustion and boredom. And i will tell you that the one thing you will not hear him talk about is you. People dont go to her rallies. There is no reason to go. She Cant Talk about that. People dont leave my rallies. We have the most incredible rallies in the history of politics. Brian, this came after a question about immigration. That is an issue that he wants to talk about. And he gets caught up in the Crowd Size thing. He gets distracted. Everybody gets distracted. At the end of the day, when we left the debate Last Night, we left achieving one goal. The Tread Line was the american people thought Kamala Harris was an extreme liberal outside the mainstream of america and when they left the debate, they felt even further. She is amnesty and all these things. I dont think people care about the crown Crowd Size. At the end of the day, what is going to matter is peoples pockets and what will matter will be the southern border and these wars starting abroad. We talked about World Leaders holding Kamala Harris. With respect. Benjamin netanyahu does not hold them with respect. They have turned to President Trump for leadership and they are not turning to the biden harris administration. That is because they dont trust them on the world stage. There was another memorial where he said he wants to see ukraine win the war with russia. That sends shockwaves. That is the moment the North Tower fell. The sixth and Final Moment of silence that they honor and mark every year on this anniversary. 10 28 a. M. , the moment the North Tower fell. More than one hour after the first hijacked plane struck the World Trade Center. And with the tower falling, it left the 16 acres of the World Trade Center site in ruins. As we discussed, changed the world forever. It really did, kate. And we should tell the viewers that they are just tuning in order dipping out of the coverage we are providing this morning, when you see the folks on screen with kate and i now, many times it is a daughter, sister, Wife Or Husband or a Loved One who lost somebody 23 years ago. I have been hearing a lot of grandchildren. That just shows that we are now 23 years later and grandchildren are speaking to their grandparents saying, i wish i knew you. And that is something we have heard more and more obviously over the years. And this continues as we have seen ceremonies at the pentagon as well as In Shanksville, pennsylvania. And that is where we are going to see once again the potential of, the Harris And Donald trump potentially crossing paths again. They were here at the site in Lower Manhattan together. They shook hands in a piece of video that will be seen over and over again. From there, Kamala Harris and President Biden left to move on to shanksville, pennsylvania, the site of the flight 93 crashing. Donald trump and Jd Vance stopped by. I think we have video of it. They stopped by one of the firehouses here. One of the many firehouses that responded. One of the first responders on september 11th. Stopping by. It was engine four, ladder 15. Stopping by there. And then heading to shanksville we will see in Western Pennsylvania on that windswept field that Kamala Harris and Donald Trump will come facetoface once again. And you mentioned the Fire Stations. I was there in the aftermath of 9 11 and lived in new york the years that followed. You could not pass a Fire Station in manhattan or really across the tristate area without seeing tributes to fallen firefighters. The fallen first responders. Remember when we would say that when others rushed out, they rushed in . People need to remember that. There are firefighters that literally were rushing into the twin towers to pull people out. To get people out, when those towers were coming down. No matter who is stopping by the Fire Station or however you feel about the politician on this day, every day, we have to take our hats off and pay tribute to these brave people. It is remarkable to think about to this day. That is absolutely right. Don miller pointed out to me 23 years later that we now have the children of some of the firefighters that have fallen. We have olivia troy, part of the republicans for harris who attended the debate Last Night and was a guest of the harris campaign. What did you think. How do you think she handled herself. One of the things we were talking about earlier is the microphones were muted but the facial expressions were not and, harris was putting her facial expressions to use when trump was saying all sorts of things. When she was reacting, i felt like she was reacting like the rest of us in the audience were reacting to the things he was saying. And quite frankly, i had a lot of disbelief on some of the things he said on the world stage. I was picturing World Leaders around the globe watching this Develop And Sort of being in shock over it. I want to play this. You expressed concern about trumps affinity for dictators. He mentioned Viktor Orban, the hungarian autocrat, multiple times Last Night and he said this about ukraine. Lets watch this. Do you want ukraine to win this war . I want the war to stop. I want to save lives that are being uselessly killed by millions. It is so much worse than the numbers you are getting which are fake numbers. To clarify the question, do you believe it is in the best interests of the u. S. For ukraine to win the war . I think it is in the best interest of the u. S. To get this were finished and get it done. You were a national Security Adviser to Vice President mike pence. How concerned are you that trump could not give a straight answer there . It is incredibly alarming. What that tells me as he did not want to go against vladimir putin. That is the message. When i looked at him, he verified for us that those are his alliances and his loyalties, to dictators around the world. To putin and Viktor Orban. He talked about Viktor Orban and his response the entire time. I think that shows the world that that is who he is mentioning. He did not mention any other World Leader on the stage. He did not talk about anyone else. He was looking at these authoritarian like people and i think he sees himself in this way. It is disturbing. I want to read the Wall Street Journal editorial board. Saying, she won the debate because she came in with a strategy to get trump to dive down rabbit holes. And left her policies and histories untouched. She always sees him take the bait. He talked about immigrants eating pets but not how he would improve the lives of americans the next four years. What does that say . I think it speaks volumes. She was incredibly effective talking about her vision, her plans for the country, to the audience that Needed to hear it. And she also was incredibly effective giving him enough rope. Just let him talk. I kept saying, just keep letting him talk and he will perjure himself to be what he is. I say, think about having to work in the White House with him. That is what it was like every day. Think about watching the person that is supposed to be running and leading our country and behaving in that way. What you saw Last Night on that stage is exactly who Donald Trump is. Do you think he will do another debate . He was clearly angry Last Night. When he showed up in the Spin Room, you could see he was frustrated about the situation. You could see the anger developing on stage in the moment. I think that is to be determined to be honest. We will see what the poll numbers say. That could drive a lot of this. If he sees the poll numbers dip, he might want to do another debate. We have more on the showdown Last Night coming up. Brian, let me go back to you. Do you want Donald Trump to do another debate . Yes. I think they already have the third one scheduled later this month. If she doesnt want to compete in that debate, i would not be surprised. She did not want to compete in the fox debate. What do you think . I think there is a history with Fox News not being able to fact check Donald Trump. Vice president harris and the campaign said Last Night they are ready for the second debate when Donald Trump will agree to it. I think it is clear he was upset. Which is why he ran to the Spin Room to create and control a narrative. I dont think it helped. I think it harmed him more. I think Vice President harris was quite disruptive on the stage and disrupting the way in which he always tries to dominate women. And with you sitting here, olivia, im thinking about the range in which this coalition that wants to not only vote for Vice President harris, but move past Donald Trump. It ranges from republicans that are tired of him and have the courage to stand up. You as well as Dick Cheney and liz cheney, all the way over to the left. There are a lot of uncommitted voters who said they still want to vote for Vice President harris and see more on the issue of gaza and then you have Donald Trump without Taylor Swift endorsing. Being in the room, what was that moment like when Trump And Harris went after Each Other on the issue of abortion . I think she was incredibly compelling. I think she was speaking on a very personal level to the american people. I thought she was very effective on not. I could feel the emotions. I am a conservative Leaning Voter on the issue. But i respect her for the fact that she understands how to speak to all of us and unite us on this issue. And im talking to conservative women across the country. Im going to arizona later this week. I was with republican women last week on the issue of reproductive rights. There is a growing coalition of people who really are feeling like she has welcomed us into the party. She is saying, i will be a president for All Of You. She had on the issue early on the debate with a lot of people paying attention. Brian, i want to ask you. Trump called his answer on abortion perfect. But when moderators asked him if he would veto a national Abortion Ban, he refused to answer. I think he said in the past that he would not. I think Jd Vance has also stated that. What he said Last Night he did not say he would veto it if it got past into his desk. I was answering the question, jim. Thank you for the opportunity. If you are not going to answer, im going to jump in. Im about to. As i was saying and trying to answer your deeply thought question, i think what he was trying to say Last Night and i think what he has said is, the country does not support Lateterm Abortion. I think 91 of the country feels Lateterm Abortion is a horrific thing. He said that in some states, they are executing the babies after they are born, which is false. Let me finish my answer. I understand you dont want to hear it because it is inconvenient. Brian, if you are not going to tell The Truth, i have to jump in. Do you want me to answer your question . Yes. Im trying to give you The Truth with an expiration which you keep interrupting. For the fourth time, im going to try to answer. His position on abortion is he has always been proud of repealing abortion. He gave a list from the federal society turning to the states. That is what has happened. He is comfortable with the states making the decision. Is comfortable with some states being as liberal as california and taking the position they want to and he is comfortable with states like arizona being more conservative like texas. What he believes on these that it should be pushed back to the states for them to surprise decide. What he says that the national level as he doesnt believe a national Abortion Ban will hit his desk. I believe that too. I think you believe that having covered The Hill yourself, jim. You know there wont be a legislation that goes to his desk on this. There has never been any legislation to go to the desk of any president since the overturning of Roe V wade. Completing her answer, President Trump has stated his position. Now for the fifth time where he stands pick he has stated in the past that he does not support a national Abortion Ban. He did not see if you would veto that. I guess it is a little technical. When i ask you a question whether why he didnt say he would veto it, you cant just go on and on forever. Jim, i refused. When i say he is not going to sign the national Abortion Ban, what does that mean to you . You are still not answering the question. I want to jump in here. I worked for planned parenthood for six years. And other republicans have been planning for this moment for decades. Of course they will not introduce a national Abortion Ban when President Biden is in the White House. As soon as Donald Trump, if he had the chance to be in the White House, they would propose it. Donald trump has only tried to moderate his position on abortion because it has been a losing issue since the 2022 midterms. In Blue States as well as red states. Women voters, democrat , independent and republican Donald Trump stands. He threw his Vice President of canada under the bus. He will sign a national Abortion Ban and that is why women are galvanizing across the country. I agree. The devil is in the details. Look at the project for plans of 2025. It is clear how controlling they want to be when it comes to reproduction. For me, it is appalling when you read the text on that and it says, it refers to Monitoring Miscarriages and abortions across the country. That is in extra level of government overreach. It is not traditional republican platform values of limited government. Lets be clear about that. Thank you. We appreciate it. A final thought on last Nights Debate. When asked whether he regretted anything about what he did January 6th, the former president said, i had nothing to do with that other than they asked me to make a speech. But his words and actions leading up to that very day plainly state otherwise. The truth is that Donald Trumps lies in rhetoric and cited the violent mob. There would have never been an attack on the capital January 6th had trump just accepted that he lost and conceded the race to Joe Biden. It is something he still wont do. Those are the facts. He had everything to do with January 6th. Now he is just lying about his lying. We will be right back. Happening on capitol hill, a major hearing under way on election security. House lawmakers pressing some of the Nation Pack for secretaries on how their offices are preparing for the general election this november. Cnn joins me to discuss. Marshall, this is a critically important issue. What are these officials saying . Both parties, election officials from both parties agree on one thing and the election is here. A lot of people think about november 5th. These election officials have to get to work very soon with ballots being sent out in states across the country just in the coming days and weeks. And so their work is in full swing. Unfortunately, the agreements between the two parties, that is kind of all they agreed on. It descended into some partisan hackery quickly. Republicans in charge of the hearing have focused on what they claim is a tsunami of noncitizens , undocumented immigrants, voting and our elections. That doesnt happen. It is extremely rare. It does not happen on a massive scale. They put the Issue Front and center. Let me play you a clip from the Secretary State of ohio. He is a republican. Here is what he had to say. When we have done our analysis in the voter rolls, we have found in the last year alone, nearly 600 noncitizens registered to vote. We removed them from the voter rolls. 600. I looked this up before i came on. 600 noncitizens that they found last year. And ohio, 6 Million people voted in the 2020 election. So this happens. Im not saying it doesnt happen. But it doesnt happen in a way that tarnishes our elections and when it does happen, it almost always gets caught. That is the gop side. They are trying to put that Issue Front and center. Former President Trump brought that up at the debate Last Night. That is a huge issue for them. On the democratic side, jim, they have been taking those false claims from trump and other republicans saying that it has a real impact on Safety And Security and personal wellbeing. They are saying that there has been threats from people buying the conspiracies and buying the lies. Here is maggie oliver, the secretary of state of new mexico. A democrat describing the frightening situation for her staff. The false information has led to increased threats and harassment to election workers. Many of the people at this table have personally experienced that. It is a vicious cycle that must be mitigated for the good of our country. Two very different views on how this could all play out. Of course at the end of the day, they are all sworn to do their job and run the election fairly with transparency and the work is about to kick off for them. The number and ohio, 600 out of 6 Million. That is what he said. 600. In in that state, 6 Million people voted in the last president ial election. Important numbers to keep in mind.
