The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes on Thursday announced they had completed the Tribal Community Response Plan to address cases of missing and murdered Indigenous persons.
The CSKT response plan will not be made public, due to the sensitive nature of some details.
CSKT Councilwoman Ellie Bundy reported, as of Thursday, there were 166 active missing persons cases in Montana. Of those, 48, or 29%, were identified as Indigenous. Native Americans comprise 6.7% of the state's population.
Bundy, who also serves as the presiding officer of the state's missing Indigenous persons task force, said Thursday's announcement was about "more than just a document being developed."
