We took a tour through phoenix and met with the workers and Small Business owners and travel leaders. We met with cindy mccain, john mccains wife. Resilient we saw the resilience of the american people. They are not looking for a handout, they just want a fair shot. My dad would say, we had to move in with my grandparents. Down south. For im not looking government to solve my problems. I hope they can at least understand my problems. He worked hard to build a decent middleclass life. It wasnt easy for him. He had an expression. A job, joey, is about more than a paycheck. Its about dignity. Its about being in to look your kid in the eye and say, honey, its going to be ok. You deserve a president who understands what you are going through, who sees where you are and where you want to be. The last thing you need is a president who ignores you, who looks down upon you, and just doesnt understand how we got who in godss name we are. Ea that is President Trump. His reckless personal conduct since his diagnosis, the destabilizing effect on our government is unconscionable. He did not take precautions to protect himself or others and the longer donald trump is president , the more reckless he gets. How can we expect him to protect this country . Governor, you have seen how he picks fights with states and pits them against each other. More than 200,000 americans are dead. 420,000 have been hospitalized. We lose from 700 to 1000 people every single day in america, worse than any other country in the world. More than 7. 5 million americans have been infected and we are still counting. In nevada, there are more than 82,000 cases. More than 1600 deaths. 80 of the deaths have been seniors over 60 years of age, black, latino, asianamerican, native American Communities are especially hit hard. Nationally the infection rate among latinos is nearly three times higher than that of other white nonlatinos. The death rate is three times higher. More than 40,000 latinos have died from covid19. My heart goes out to all those families. They got up this morning, there was an empty chair around the kitchen table. Or they go to dinner tonight and the person who should be there is gone. They have lost part of their soul. They have lost part of their life. Its all about family. With you and i, its all about family. Losing family is a devastating thing. We can do so much better. My heart goes out to everyone struggling with the economic crisis caused by the simple neglect of this president. Nearly 11 million jobs lost the beginning of this crisis and they still have not come back. Including 136,000 jobs in nevada. Temporary layoffs have turned to permanent layoffs. Record growth last month and the number of americans facing longterm unemployment and the problem of longterm unemployment, once you get past a certain point, history shows us they never get a job again. All told, there are now 30 million workers who have lost hours, lost paychecks, or lost their jobs. Roughly 700,000 people have dropped out of the labor force last month. The vast majority were women. We are still down 647,000 jobs nationwide since the crisis started. Here in nevada the Unemployment Rate is 13. 2 , the highest in the nation because of President Trumps negligence. The Hospitality Industry has been hit particularly hard. Union percent of their said 50 of their members members are out of work. Tourism went down 70 from a year ago. The result . President trump will be the first president in modern history since hoover to leave office with fewer jobs than when he came into office. Here in nevada, after seeing 200,000 jobs created in the last seven years of the obamabiden administration, nevada has actually seen jobs go down under the trump presidency. With what he us calls a vshaped recession. It is a kshaped recession. Top, it keepshe going up. For the middle class and everyone else it keeps going up. , going down. Sacrificedal workers are being left behind by the most unequal recovery in modern history. Get this. The top 100 billionaires in america have done pretty well. Just in the pandemic, the top 100 billionaires have made an additional 3 billion. 300 billion. The top 100. When you get to the bottom half of that k, its a downward slide. You will have to figure out how you will pay your bills, put food on the table. So much Food Insecurity and in america. How to balance doing your job with being a teacher because of the negligence. The cannot provide wherewithal for schools to open. You are asked to risk your neck because you cannot work from home. That is because you are a Police Officer, a firefighter, a nurse. Or you work on the summary line. Customer service. Hospitality, if you are a housekeeper, a casino worker, the ones who build this very stage. Governor, your members of congress are doing everything they possibly can to turn things around. Governor, you have been focused and responsible. You followed science and public put Public Health and safety first. You made it tough calls to save lives, working around the clock to reopen schools in the economy safely. Your members of congress have done the same. And the house passed what they call the heroes act months ago. Would have provided billions of dollars to keep First Responders on the job. The Safety Measures needed. The ppe needed to open schools and businesses. But donald trump and Mitch Mcconnell, the republican leader, did nothing to move the legislation. Nothing in june, nothing in july, nothing in august, nothing in september. Things are getting worse and worse and worse. As People Struggle and suffer, what do they focus on. If this were not so serious you would think i was making it up. What do they focus on . More tax cuts for the wealthy. Not a joke. The proposal is another 30 billion tax cut for millionaires and billionaires. Cuts in funding. Cutting the means by which we fund the Social Security system, leaving the actuaries to say if they do it, by mid2023 there will be no money for Social Security. And the relentless effort to eliminate the Affordable Care act which provides Health Care Coverage for 22 Million People. Over 100 million with preexisting conditions. This is going on at the same time. It has already cost 10 Million People their Health Insurance because the companies have gone bankrupt. It is unconscionable. Instead of focusing trying to take your health care away. Its literally before the Supreme Court as i speak, to strike down the entire Affordable Care act. Take away that health care for 20 million americans. That is 282,000 nevadans. Take away protection for preexisting conditions. 1. 2 million nevadans. Complications from covid scarring and her damage could become the next preexisting condition. Tossing out the Affordable Care act that allows children to be covered on their parents insurance policy until at least age taking us backward where 26. Insurance companies could charge a woman more for health care a man for the same procedure just because shes a woman. Take away medicare benefits for seniors, increase their drug prescription costs, and just as he vowed to terminate the funding for Social Security. The idea that in just a few years to put at risk 410,000 nevadans who rely on a dignified retirement because of Social Security. This, notduring all once did President Trump call a high level meeting of democrats and republicans to solve these issues. I have served with a lot of president s. Never, no matter how good or bad you thought they were did they fail to try to bring parties together in the white house to reach a settlement. You know why . The largest employers in america are Small Businesses. Millions more are struggling to hang on. How many more will go under . How many more dreams will be extinguished because of the selfishness of this president , and the Republican Leaders in congress . Make no mistake, if you are out of work, if your business is closed, if your Childs School is shut down, if you are facing eviction as millions are. Over 20 million americans worry whether they will be able to pay their mortgage next month. None of that seems to matter to donald trump. If you are a firefighter or a Police Officer who depends on state and local budgets, he has turned his back on you as well. They have to balance their budgets they are being laid off all over america. When barack and i were elected we inherited the worst recession short of the Great Depression in history. He put me in charge, it was called the recovery act. 800 billion. We passed and got it out into the economy in 18 months to prevent a depression. We did it with less than 0. 2 of waste or fraud. I was able to see to it that the states could keep moving, keep teachers, First Responders, firefighters, all employed. I was able to get 140 billion in aid out to the states. Right here in clark county i was able to bring 1. 2 billion to keep your economy going. We have that ability now. The house has already passed a similar piece of legislation and we started the longest sustained recovery in american history, but you know what Mitch Mcconnell said about helping the state . States . Im not making this up. He said, let them go bankrupt, let them go bankrupt. What in the hell is he talking about . Folks, we are so much better than this. We can turn this crisis into progress. We can contain this virus and fully reopen our economy. We make up 4 of the worlds population and we have 20 of the worlds deaths. If we just follow the science, expand testing and tracing, social distancing, washing her our hands, nationwide mask mandates. Dont politicize the race for a vaccine, mr. President. Just have a plan for a safe and equitable distribution. In the economy, bring the congress back together to test real relief for people who have lost their unemployment checks. And then implement a comprehensive agenda as i have laid out to make bold investment so we can build back better. The money we raise by illuminating the 1. 3 trillion of the tax cuts that affects the super wealthy and corporations, we will invest in working people. We are going to grow the middleclass. To make sure everyone is included on the deal. The kinds of investment that will stimulate the economy, including Industries Like tourism and hospitality to get back to full employment fast and help build back better than before. It means the Analysis Shows creating millions of good paying union jobs, manufacturing and technology, making sure our future is made in america. When the president and the white house gives out 600 billion in contracts for year, guess what . When i am president , it is going to go to no outfit that does not make it in america, the whole thing, and sell it in america. I mean it. Infrastructure, building roads, bridges, highways, ports, airports, clean energy. Upgrading 4 million buildings and weatherizing 2 million homes. Creating at least a million good paying jobs and in the process making the climate safer, saving , hundreds of millions of barrels of oil. Well deal with Climate Change by creating millions of union jobs. That build Climate Resilience in cities and towns, fighting back stronger. The more frequent wildfires. In my plan, Small Businesses will come out with access to capital. We will get 50 million in new capital. I am dreaming here. A 15 minimum wage for our essential workers. We not just went to praise you. Going to praise you we are , going to pay you with a good wage. Ensure you have strong benefit. We will ease the burden of the costs in your life. We will have new Health Insurance options. We are going to increase subsidies for premiums. Increase plans that will lower deductibles. Outofpocket expenses. We will take on the pharmaceutical industry. Will slashan that costs to prescription drugs. The reason i am not going into more detail. If in fact medicare is able to negotiate for all the drugs they buy and say, you will not sell them unless they pay the price we are suggesting, that would drop by 60 the cost of drugs. We will also make highquality childcare available and accessible. We will work with the states to ensure that every three and fouryearold will get access to free, highquality preschool, not daycare. We will make sure that low and middle income families will never have to spend more than 7 of their income to care for young children. If we want to reward work on this country we have to ease the Financial Burdens of families caring for raising a child or an aging loved one. For the professional caregivers care workersme often women, women of color, immigrants, too often underpaid, under seen, undervalued. That is why my build back better plan will elevate the compensation for caregiving workers and early child care workers. We will triple the funding for title i schools like the one behind me. Which survey high number of children from low income families. We will make four years of Public College and University Tuition free for any family that makes less than 125,000 a year. We will make Community College in job Training Programs free for all hardworking americans that qualify.
