With congress back we looked at what theyll be working on it, entering coming weeks. This is one hour. Any days a good day to have bob with us but especially as Congress Returns from its august recess. Of busy fall agenda. Childhoo well start with the announcement today on the deferred action for childhood arrivals program. T we expect that at 11. We expect the president to say hill and that program with a sixmonth delay. How do you expect that to go over on capitol hill . It will be really difficultve to pass any type of gmac, even a conservative to. Years ago john boehner, then speaker had a secret group of bipartisan members trying to get some type of deal. They met on and off for over a year, could not come up with a solution that could pass the house. The dream act when president obama did pass the house if fewer than ten republicans supported and they couldnt get the 60 votes in the senate which led to the daca program. Some members have said this is the opportunity, we can do it. But maybe there is a big deal. Maybe theres a dreamers plus trumps wall. But certainly the odds are against it. Talk to that. What things will be tied together here . Theres a lotta big funding deadlines . You think this is one of the things that could be part of a big deal . There could be a big deal on this but the fiscal issues will have to come first. Possibly Harvey Relief with raising the debt ceiling, funding the government, you have other deadlines on defense and Childrens Healthcare. This is Something Congress does a lot, but a lot of members including Speaker Paul Ryan says they dont want to do, having one big bill what you dont have a lot of hearings, you dont see the bill until the last second a minutes pass quickly. Congress has not been able to get its act together rather under democrats or republicans sought the end of the fiscal year they lump them together. Thats what were looking at asng early as this week. The conservatives dont want to raise the debt limit as part as the government funding bill. The chairman had set aside do that, but, that looks to be anid easier way for Republican Leaders including Mitch Mcconnell and ryan to get a bill passed. Host so hurricane Harvey Relief, were expecting a vote tomorrow in the house at 11 00 a. M. One of the concerns about the funding is it became a vehicle that many of the things were hung on, the relief package that was passed, this was the reason why a lot of conservatives said they didnt want to vote for the sandy package. Will that hot happen this time around i know it will happen. Guest this will be one of many bills. Theyll be seeing investments of over 100 billion, one was talking over hundred 50 billing. This is just the beginning of the really for harvey. Theyll be other ones possibly as early as this month. After this passes. The difference between back then and now is were not seen a lot of conservatives say when he talks at the cost of relief with some other. We just havent seen it. This is been more bipartisan. Before the house acted on super storm sandy governor christie called out Speaker Boehner for not acting and that was an embarrassment for the speaker then they subsequently did pass a bill. Right now were not seen the type of partisanship on disaster relief. Therell be fights over this, this is only one of many ills that will probably pass on harvey. Host President Trump tweeted late last week, big week coming up, and then less than a minute ago, congress, get ready to do your job, daca. Thats what the president tweeted out. The relationship between President Trump and president i congressional leaders. What are we expecting to see ino the history . For most of the august recess trump is going after members of his own party including most notably the majority leader Mitch Mcconnell, not getting healthcare done, blamingan mcconnell for that. Mcconnells life is trumps secretary for transportation which is also high priority will probably get kicked into nextthw year. So this will be a little awkward, congressional leaders are meeting with trump today including mcconnell. We havent seen a lot of love between mcconnell intron. This could get awkward. We have the mcconnell is saying we have our priorities, will get them done. But certainly the pressure is on congress to get a lot done. Tw host we will keep watching the twitter page. This is the time a day he often tweets. If theres more will walkk through. Bob cu well continue to talk about your priorities, any of the upcoming deadlines that congress is facing a coming weeks and months. S, bob is with us for the80 8 00 oclock hour. You can call in now. 274880 [inaudible] donnas at first, in virginia, republican, go ahead. Caller how are you doing . My question is, years ago when president bush was in there this money for the wall was alreadywa granted and where did that money go . Was it used for Something Else . How many times was the money granted for the wall but not used for the wall . I dont understand that part at all. Why they didnt use the money they granted for for the wall. Can you answer that . Guest congress to pass whenn bush was president the secure fence act of 2006, that was a Border Security bill, not a wall, the call the defense but it was supported by lottaa democrats including schumer and clinton at the time. Fence so there was funding put intote fie secure fence because it did pass but a lot of critics said the job wasnt finished. That is what now President Trump is saying. That wasnt enough they complete the project, gao, they looked at the issue and spelled it out and they have a full report. If you go online you can findera out all the money that has been appropriated. Certainly there was a fair amount of money spent on the secure fence act the critics say they didnt finish. Host Something Like 2. 3 billion. Indep jim is in florida, line for independence, good morning. Mplan caller good morning. First i would like to reference to earlier colors, one from the left and one from the right, one complaint about 11 an hour wage. The gentleman from the right was a Business Owner complaining that his brick labor costs went from 50 cents at brick to 70 cents per brick. I like to see the brick cost cutdown immigration, bring the brick cost up so the people in the cities and country are getting paid more. Oard with im using this just as a reference obviously it could be done across the board wages, and once the brick gets to a dollar ten, open up this picket and let more immigration in. Doc is a big chip, maybe we could have some great compromise. Give that ship to the left andgi get Something Back for. We have 5 of the worlds population in 20 of the worlds immigrant, 40 of immigrants wind up on welfare. We take a more legal immigrants than any other country. Mm thank you very much. Guest a lot of passion with immigration and thats a difficult to get in the build them. The color mentioned wages,s,ne something democrats said the minimum wage needs to be. Increased, whether 15 on the center 20 but that legislation has been stalled on capitol hill. Be thats a big question, can there be a big deal . We havent really seen massive sweeping bipartisan deals in recent years unless youree govn talking about Something Like funding the government. And that goes to the political will. Do the parties want to have a deal . Ec do they want to give President Trump a victory on something especially as we get closer to the mid turn elections where the looking at the president s Approval Rating the same democrat should pick up seats, its a matter of how many. Host is the lack a big deals sign of the times . Guest absolutely. Well go back to clinton the balanced budget act of 1997 made sweeping reforms to medicare and balance the budget. We see no child left behind witg bush, we just and see that a lot in the obama administration. You saw big bills pass, certainly dodd frank in the Affordable Care act and thoses are muscled through undemocratic boat votes. We havent seen big ones. Thats a sign that the right left are very strong right now. N thats way you have seen jockeying in the 2020 democratic race. Please see republican members like jeff flake whos up next year being primary. Host you talk about a sixmonth delay for the daca program, a lot of can kicking that happens with the deadline set for congress. Obviously well see what Jeff Sessions have to say i will show it here in cspan, but from what you understand so far, is there possible can kicking the can happen after six months . Its an interesting dynamic that they look to be setting up. Theyre setting up a deadline like the sequester were Congress Gave its own deadline said nobody wants a sequester which will cut spending and it was t thought to be an incentive to get a deal and that deal didnt come. Icted ov so somewhat similar that President Trump who has beenen conflicted over what to do with dreamers, in his primary he went hard right on immigration that was a reason why he led wire to wire in the 16 or 17 candidate feel. After that, he softened hishe position and he said kids are important and hes conflicted. This was a compromise like were going to end the program as hesd promised but, congress and paul ryan has said congress should act on this, id be remiss not to bring up jordan story in the hill newspaper they have up patch september agenda. Ough her all the deadlines were talkinge about you can read through her story in the hill newspaper. Bob is here with us until 9 00 oclock to take your questions about those deadlines. Stephen missouri, go ahead. Caller thank you john in cspan. I was cut off on the last segment. I hope you allow me a minute or two. The lease congress does the better off it is for the middle class. Everything you do is against us. On infrastructure theyll build toll roads. Chunky Companies Make you get off those roads and it will jam up the side roads. As for his immigration all they have to do is go after the corporations hiring all of these illegally and then the immigration problem will disappear. With all the problems the money they need ill bet you 100 1 the give a massive tax cut for the rich and forget the poor, thats the way it goes, trumps the biggest liar weve ever had in congress is worse than he is. Thank you cspan. Host congressional Approval Ratings are lower than trumps. I mentioned transportation. Thats something way for talk about but not seen a lot of action. Some people say in retrospect he shouldve started with what transportation it wouldve attracted bipartisan support. But can he do anything that big an Election Year . If its good for the districts, but harry gonna pay for and he mentioned tolls. Thats the part of the equation. How much will the package be . Will be paid for . So some people thought they would do tax reform andr. Transportation. Is that not happening . Guest know, we interviewed Steve Mnuchin on the same day, the morning of and he said no this will just be tax reform bill in congress can do whatever it wants, but there looking like theyre just can do taxes first whether they can reform the entire tax code hasnt been done since 86 in a revamp of the tax code because theres winners and losers but, they could maybe cut taxes. If republicans cant pass some type of taxcut measure it will be a big embarrassment for the gop. They got neil gorsuch through but before they do that they have to pass a budget. If they want to use reconciliation like healthcare where they would need democrats, aney have to pass it for the fiscal year and that was supposed be pass by now. Host on tax return when is it too close to the election that hard deadline . What are the leaders of the house and senate like . Will say it has to be done this year. So, that means moving it sometime this fall and the Senate Finance committee moving it and then coming together t passing a bill. You also have the Republican Party united they were not united enough to pass healthcare legislation that senator john mccain voted no and took down the skinny healthcare bill. You to be more united and that remains to be seen especially. When trump is going after his own party. For radio listeners every two its on the screen, these are september deadlines, and it. The 29th of september the government hits its debtng runs ceiling. The 30th, government funding runs out. Also chip funding, the Childrens Health Insurance Program funding ends the 30th as well the National Flood Insurance Program and also faa authorization expires thats a a short list of some of the deadlines, never congress. Were talking about them this morning. Richard butler, line for republicans, go ahead. Thank you cspan. F. Sir, in 70 years old. I was all these president s, everybodys can help the middles class. But would happen was just like t reagan, 3 Million People were going to give amnesty to whichh ended up being 12 or 15 Million People which change the culturee of america. When i was a child i could go hitchhiking carry a gun on a bus to go places and do things. Now, our children are killing each other in the streets. Right now, immigration is the most important thing to me. Send them back. The governments responsibility to take care of these people, not mine. My responsibilities to think. One take care my wife, and two, take care my children. Bord not to take care of every mexican or anybody who wants to come across our borders. You stack the deck against americans. Most people on the news today or political hacks put there by administrations. For instance joe dash on fox news. Theres no voice. Host we got your point richer. We read a tweet earlier saying that Congress Needs to use this sixmonth time the administration is giving them to make the program permanent. Can you talk about the debate inside the Republican Party andt how much pushback there will be to ending this program . Shes retiring as she comes from the district that Hillary Clinton won by about 20 points. N she is one i bet voted for the dream act. But she is one of the few. You have this friction we have hardliners who want to build a wall, who said you need to get behind trump, trump did say mexico will pay for but he did campaign on it. It was his number one issue. Then you have others will say we can end the program that obama started we need to continue it. But people believe congress is and should, theres been lawsuits about it whether obama had the authority to do it and whatever happens there will be lawsuits. The states were challenging, president obama and thats why the decision was made. Theres a deadline on this month actually today with the trumpr U Administration had to decide if it is going to repeal. Al. And then if they and the program than other states are gonna challenge this in court. Andrew cuomo, mayor of new york, governor of new york with his tweet yesterday, new york will not demonize diversity in standbys 42000 new yorkers are deported if he rescinds, we will sue. And regardless of what congress does or doesnt do, this will be decided one way or the other by the courts. Madeline wrightson, american selected trump to make the daca decision, not have them punted to congress. Does Congress Want this football that they described as being punted . They have so much to do and youll read this is another thing. Th but sometimes when you have a lot of legislative things you need to do maybe you can trade if you give me this all give you that. We havent seen that trading in recent years thats been successful. Theyve tried it was certainly a even if some supporters are saying why his truck backing down and yielding to congress . You should just and it. So he could get some backlash. To think thats why Jeff Sessions is making that announcement . Its within his jurisdiction. Trump was asked about it last week and the announcement was forthcoming remember, the relationship between Jeff Sessions and trump has been strained at times over his decision to recuse himself. I think its a normal thing to yield to the cabinet a secretary who has jurisdiction over this issue. The attorney general will not be taking questions today does that surprise you . No, they want to control thea message and say what they want. To say. Its unfortunate has i think they should all take questions. Its a big announcement. But i understand they want toif control the message and dont want to answer what would be difficult questions. Sue for marilyn, go ahead. Hello. Ive been a trump supporter since day one. Ters s ive supported him and voted for him and sent money and stood out on overpasses with signs for him. If he does not in this program which he said was an illegally unconstitutional program and send these people out of the country and stop making me responsible for im through with him. If you have an unconstitutional Illegal Program you dont give the United States another six months to operate. I never hear people talking about the parents who supposed y brought these people in. When do they get deported and find and criminally incarcerated for doing what they have done . This program is destroying this country. In our Economic Educational criminal, healthcare, its all related to ilLegal Immigration. M in this congress will tell me have to suffer under obama care because they cant get their act together but will have a top priority for people who came ing illegally, continue to stay here illegally and commit crimes and cost me as a taxpayer my future and my childrens future . I wont tolerate it. It wont be the democrats getting seats back, it will be these winos who get primary to buy true conservatives, we are not gonna put up with this illegal stuff anymore. President trump you better be listening. We stood out at these rallies for you. If you continue this program were done with you. Guest thats a big part ofig the reason trump one the primer was because of immigration and that playbook may change in future elections. Go hard right on immigration. Thats what mitt romney did in 2012. And trump went further with the wall and it resonated with Republican Voters and they elected him and now they wantar results. Some, that color doesnt like this punting to congress. Host we have about a half an hour left. Reat of course you can see great reporting on the hill and around washington as well. Tony is in washington, d. C. A republican goahead. D. Caller hello. Good morning my on . Yes. Go ahead. Caller i like to say, what better way to weaken a country than to bring Foreign Nationals into the country. You read in the bible they ran the foreigners out of the countries because the idol they were worshiping in the love that they did not have for the country, they didnt have heart for the country, the great wall of china was built to keep the foreigners out of the country. Look at china now. Its basically where america is eating out of chinas hands. R to host i want to ask you a question, does it matter to you if the United States pays for that wall . Or of mexico pays for the that wall does that matter or do you just want to see the wall built . Caller i just like to see the wall built and actually the latinos want their country back when they get a foothold as to where they can rule, theyreo going to do it and take over this country. Host tony, go ahead. Guest critics of the immigration report, the kind that president obama was pushine democrats just want more votes. S the caller mikes appointment for nationals. They cant donate to politicians but citizens can. So thats another political element that a lot of republicans say if we pass something will we be losing elections moving forward . And thats why its so difficult to get it done. Theres so many issues, the Business Community wants the dreamers to stay. A lot of different people are af affected and corporations and unions are affected byne Immigration Reform. Igration so everyone has a stake in it. Earlier we spent a good deal talking about Legal Immigration and changes that the Trump Administration is supporting that legislation by senator cotten and purdue. That they are at the beginning that this congress, where does that go . Does that get lost in this fight . In oakmont, but at the same time democrats are very much opposed to that legislation. You need 60 votes and that i think democrats can save you put that in there will walk away. Democrats are also say theyre not in a supported diamondram, u funding, but what if we extended this program, would you then support wall funding. That will be the road. I think the Progressive Left is not going to allow democrats to support wall funding the matter what. Will but we shall see. Host mike is on the line for democrats. Caller good morning. Thank you for taking my call. As a lifelong democrat im 62 years old and both my parents came out Shenandoah Valley with meager beginnings and did well for themselves. Under 40 fives administration deportations were at a higher rate than they are currently in the ilLegal Immigration rate has steadily decreased. The majority of the nine 11 hijackers came across canadian borders. The one thing i agree with President Trump and his congres candidacy rhetoric was term limits on congress. This man commented on the congress in 30 years as he stated, 86 was the last sweeping Immigration Reform so term limits on congress, to transfer senator, thats eight more than any president. Six for a represented as four more years than any president. So all of this talk about how immigrants, particularly docket people have cost these problems, theres criminals in every demographic, we know that there many persons where they immigrated legally or emma illegally that embrace theand gd opportunities in america, many are Good Neighbors and good taxpayers, this is a broad complicated issue, but Congress Term limits and force the old adage of compromise, it makes me sick to hear left and right. The majority of americans are ia the middle and [inaudible] one far end or the other. Host mikes dick around for the 9 00 oclock hour, will delve into some of those issues. The Economic Impact of the dreamer population, how many they are, where they live, bob what you want to pick up on . Guest at one point groups on the left are criticizing president obama and called him the deep order and she. I remember interviewing a big proportion of Immigration Reform. Remember democrats had control of the house and senate in 2009 intent but they were afraid of pushing Immigration Reform reform at that time. To michigan, sue. My question is, i havent heard much about the democratic menendez, his trial going on and i hear harry reid is implicated, how will that affect congress . Guest the menendez trial starts tomorrow. Menendez is a democrat from new jersey accused of corruption and getting gifts in exchange for legislative flavors. Menendez says he is not guilty, however, he will need to be at that trial. He requested to be in washington during the trial and the judge said no youll be at the trial. That could factor and if there this month because menendez is not going to be casting many votes, if any this month. Theyll be one to watch. Democrats are concerned about that stealing headlines this a month when republicans are trying to move stuff. That is something to watch over the next several weeks. Asi i know the Republican National committee has put out press releases say if menendez is convicted he should step aside because Chris Christie would appoint his replacement. A lot of politics possibly, but we shall see if hes convicted or not. Host and the hill newspapers covering that trial as well. Bli. Republic is in is on the line. Caller am a retired combat air force vet. Why are we continually going to go ahead and re work criminals. Nobody understands in d. C. Imina illegal, deport him, do not rework criminals. As a combat disable that ive been ripped off a hundred thousand dollars to pay my own disability which they finally got concurrent receipts. Ive never been paid back. But yet will keep payingt criminals . Guest this is something you hear a lot, that is why trump was elected. He said he would. We hear from callers is nota in complicated issue if its an illegal immigrant thats the bottom line. And some people are going to him Legal Immigration and jumping ahead of them. So thats another aspect that im sure youre hearing it will hear from callers in the coming weeks and months. Host were going to go to north carolina. Go ahead. Caller i just like to say if theres so many criminals on the daca program they should be deported but a lot of them are here to make a better life and the biggest crook of them all is donald trump. Good host lets go to paul, go ahead. Caller good morning and thank you for taking my call. I believe that mr. Trump should follow through on what he said he was going to do. I dont know how it will happen, but they are illegals and theyve talked about the young people under 16 who were brought here but they havent talked about the parents. The other thing, all this time being spent on this program, its a lot of time wasted. People are going to write about what happened today, but this country is in a situation a where if we dont listen to whats going on as far as biblical, were in trouble. Caller just a minute. Were in the third earth h right now and all the signs of the Second Coming of the lord has started. Strieff, fighting, brothersall against brothers family sweating, divorces, just all kinds of stuff. In the last sign is the big one, its wars and rumors of wars. Host we have your point. Surely is on the line. Caller thank you for taking my call. I couldnt agree with the last element more. Now, the thing is we wanted to get the republicans in charge. So with trump we could get something done. Co well, when you have people like collins, murkowski and john mccain and i understand he deserves a lot of credit and a lot of respect, and i know hes sick and he needs our prayers, but, these three have really hurt the republican congress. I really think those three need to be out and bring three new ones in this can work with the republicans to get something done. Because look where rat, since january, what have they got done . . Guest the Republican Party made some big promises. This is the first time in over a decade theyve had control of congress and the white house. Without a doubt they been disappointed in not been able to get big things through. Tax reform is supposed to pass by now, this is a crucial stretch for the Republican Party who did not succeed on healthcare, it looks like that is not going to pass becauseltha under the reconciliation rules for you can pass healthcare reform with the majority of senators expires at the end of this month. And theyre not even really talking up on that. Theres more talk of about bipartisanship now, the Health Committee is Holding Hearings this week. Ssing co but obama care is so polarizing, its hard to see any type of bill passed in congress on that issue. Host collins, murkowski mccain becoming some leading players and debates over the Affordable Care act. Take us through your expectatiom of the daca debate. Who will be the leading senators to watch. Guest collins may run for governor and that could open up a seat for democrats. Thats something republicans want her to run for reelection, she usually easily wins. Immigration debate, i think you see members like Luis Gutierrez on the left, steve king republican from iowa who is tweeting over the weekend. Weeke, youll have hardliners versus comprehensive reform people, mee bob goodlad, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and senator grassley, these will be players to watch. Grassley has struck deals with democrats throughout his career. Will he be able to get some type of deal on this it will be a tough task. Host i wonder if jeff flake will be some and youll be summ. Watching. Print someone President Trump has had criticism for this past summer. Guest he is alba but backede opponents of flake. And he lost badly to mccain. But certainly trump is not backed flake and will not backew flake. Theyll be a problem for his reelection but remember president george w. Bush, his comprehensive Immigration Reform and i got real close to passing but it couldnt get over. Host i wanted play jeff flake from sunday. He was asked about the president going back on his promise among republicans in places like arizona. Heres that back and forth with jeff like on sunday. To be the right thing to do to go back on a promise, obviously hope president s keep some of their Campaign Promises and hope they ignore others. This is when he ought to ignore. There are 800,000 daca kids who were brought across the border, the median age six years olds sh when they came a cross the border. They should not be punished for the sins of their parents. Thats just the basic principle we ought to follow. They are either in school andal graduated and are working, 90 of them are in the workforce to remove them from the country. To split a families like this is not how we ought to go. Host so when the president treats this morning congress get ready to do your job, is he talking to jeff like . Guest yes. S flake is really close with the vice president. When penson flake served in the house together before pence became governor. Its an awkward situation for pence. In march flake, hes running for reelection and is devoted for running for reelection but theres been speculation that he could run against trump in 2020. He said that is likely trump will get some type of primary challenger. I think its some prominent republican will run not saying that candidate will be trump, but weve seen in the past where buchanan ran in we can push number one and some people say that cost him in the general. Host one topic we havent talked about his north korea, what the white house is doing congress same. Heres the president within the past minute on his twitter page. Im allowing japan and south korea to buy substantially amount of highly sophisticated t military equipment from the United States. Im assuming congress would have a role on the purchasing agreement . Guest i think they would. This is a difficult situation for members and aunt administration. The rhetoric we have never seen this type of rhetoric get this heated between north korea and the United States. The key players china and thats what the president has been push in. China to broker some type of deal but both trumpet north korea are not backing down. Res there have been talk of a military response, its just hard to see how that doesnt devolve into complete chaos. Steve bannon said an interview that there really is no feasible military solution. There was an emergency meeting yesterday to talk about north korea, the nuclear test from sunday. You can watch it at cspan. Org. Was a meeting in which u. S. Ambassador to the ambassador said north korea is begging for war with the u. S. Caller good morning. Ere requ ill tell you, if this were required viewing for the folks in Congress Today it would be a good thing to listen to it show up. T and i listened washington journal a lot and its a firestorm of the show for sure today. It will qualify for a top ten program. Mike complements to everyone that is called in really. On both sides. Impressive. Im calling to ask the if you can repeat these three points, bob compiled the request to my representative into senators to say they would not present in this daca issue for a bipartisan way out of this. In a positive way. I wish you say again at the end of this, if you could repeat this and someone your publication but the first thought was, i looked up i looked at the cost of a typical Legal Immigration. Upwards of 15000. E see you compare that to country club and those type of things to join the people pay. Seems to me a 45000, of come up with that to make the numbers work, for each of the 11 Million Immigrants were looking at, and it would be bipartisan in that it would put the immigrants in a position to say we want to be citizens, were willing to pay for, they say that all the time. Lets let them step up to that. That would generate 500. 5 billion. And that could then pay for this harvey recovery, it could go back and pay a 100 billion for the katrina and stay liquid good this is done to the country which then then leave 250 billion for future goodwill for the country and good respect and appreciation across both sides of the issue. So would there be a willingness to implement a fee to become citizen. Second requirement is you have to sign up for the 90 day window. If you dont do that youre out of this country. So sign up. Agree to pay for it, i looked up 5. 5 over tenured. Is 494 per month. That could be paid even from those here illegally. And then thirdly, i finally tennis, require a 12 hour, a retired American History teacher. Read tire require everyone of to take a 12 our Community College course on American History, thnstitution, civics, that type thing and certify that that they pass the course and then take a sworn oath of allegiance. Thats a big problem to me thatr these immigrants are coming and theyre not swearing an oath of. Allegiance thats required by normal Legal Immigration. Host i have one question for you. So for a family for under your plan theyd have to pay a fee of a hundred 80000 to becomehip to citizens. It exactly right. Host any concern that would only grant citizenship to all the people . Family host no. Ments. Theres family connections that could help supplement those payments and i say this truly with the highest respect, arkansas has the only Mexican Embassy in the u. S. Governor huckabee establish that years ago. Its stunning to have a foreign Country Embassy in our state. I many acquaintances that are hispanic. I have the highest respect for them. The the most loving caring, hardworking, patriotic people ive ever met. So i say this with respect to them, but i think they can afford it. Ther i know would be a difficult thing, but you could roll it out over ten years, rely on other family members here currently and let them help and say will pay this one time penalty. A normal cost is 15000. The real penalty would be about a 30,000 dollars entry fee but it would create such goodwill for americans to say theyre paying their dues. Host thank you for sharing. Guest different proposals over the year have said that b they would have to go back to their country, that was one proposal years ago and then reapply and pay back taxes, learn english, pay a penalty. Not that much money, its really critics would say that would not be affordable even over a long time. Those are the type of things. For gonna grant any citizenship what we call it if its not full citizenship, what are the have to do . And whats fair and he talked to so me different people and some people say thats unfair itsveb too expensive and thats why you havent been able to get the votes to get it to the president s desk. Create caller bob, the whole russia store which was created by Hillary Clinton as a smokescreen for the biggest story that you guys have not been reporting on which is the spy ring in congress. And now turns out there is aspiring in congress that has been operating with blackberries, illegal back berries that every member of congress who lives in laporte city carries and communicates back to a rat line to with trucks depleted uranium and illegal child trafficking. Host talk us through the story. Guest im not familiar with that spy nrd ring. Not heard about it, but i can google it after and see whats out there. E. Im not familiar with what the colors talking about. Host the Capital Police investigating some people who dealt with it and certain staff on capitol hill. Thats a story we talked about. Guest yes, the former chair of the democratic National Committee had a staffer who wase recently arrested because he was trying to leave the country amid the investigation of it problems are things that were done that should not have been done. That day, this have been an issue before and came up and then that staffer was fired that day. So, thats something weve been covering i will continue to cover to see what charges and any conviction in that case. Host lisa republican is on. Caller hello john, emilee cherry, a very disappointed in the congress about the healthcare law. People are only getting like 30 hours a week and also isnt it in cut unconstitutional. I dont appreciate the media talking over the republicans when they get on a channel wont let them talk. They make it like the president , their unfit because they dont care about us. They dont talk like us. Theyre all liberal, whats going on, we can even get a word in edgewise. And the only reason i voted for donald trump mainly was because of the Supreme Court and also because everybody like mitt romney, jeb bush, they were all was cease. We wanted somebody to stand up for us. When you say the media, who are you referring to . Basically cnn. S they wont even let anybody talk. They just talk over them. We should have a conversation about this like im talking to e you. The only show i watch now as you because im not to watch that anymore question. Media has been a big storyline. L trump is not shy about going after people in the media and specifically cnn. During the 2016 he went after fox news a lot. But he doesnt shy away from fights he wanted strength and hg talked about going after jeb bush for being weak and lowenergy and labeled his opponents effectively. They want action on Immigration Reform. Oo the trump basis largely stood by him. Now that hes punting this issue to congress will there be any erosion in his base in the upcoming fall . How has the trump residency change the weight youve done your job . I think the new cycles usedig to be used have one big new story a day. Now its trump tweeting, and im a fan because he creates more news any good to see his line of thinking but the republican for Republican Leaders is Mitch Mcconnell is not a fan of him tweeting because you have to discipline and trump tweets about a lot of issues. But the amount of news happening in the trump era have been enormous. One difference between readings and web traffic going up is because family and friends is to not talk about politics, now they talk about all the time. They argued about politics and they argue over social media. Thats a dynamic that has created an appetite for news whether you love trump or hate trump, most people like to digest news about him. Host jim from pennsylvania. Caller i dont understand, here mention this disaster inn texas is going to cost 150 billion and everybody gas. Hundred 50 billion, thatsma pt exactly what president obama put on airplanes and sent to our number one enemy, iran. And then i look back over eight years of obama and he spent us into the whole, 11 trillion. J hey bob, how come you are doing any journalism when obama was spending not only my money, myoo grandkids money, you media people sat around and did nothing. Rt you didnt report on that. You didnt report on the obama run and run santa cant to anything for the bay to people i dont have the power to do it. It should go back and revisit d that crap. Guest we cover the debt limit, its up to 20 trillion. It has gone up under recent administrations. It went up a lot during Barack Obamas administration. We had a surplus before 9 11 and thats why think it was easier to pass big legislation. Some people say the iraq and afghanistan wars have been extremely costly. And barack obama pushed a lot of legislation that was costly. Healthcare reform was technically paid for but others under his watch, the debt limit balloon. Skinning concern from conservatives who say for gonna raise the debt ceiling we needni reform. Sir not constantly raising thea. Debt ceiling and borrowing money from countries from china. And as i mentioned before, if youre in a Foreign National you cant donate to the u. S. Politician but the government will happily take money for debt spending from other countries. Money paid to iran to resolve the failed arms deal, this was an issue back at the end and he followed 2016, payments altogether totaling 1. 3 billion. Number four was the Hurricane Harvey recovery. That one member of just to ke. That the governments havent been able to do this since 1986. Few but to be like that i have said that forever and ever and i will give them a little bit of leeway. And then they are out of here. You have about one minute left. Ll here and then well hear 11 00. A very controlledio statement in unscripted from Jeff Sessions about what they you will do they will give them a deadline of six months i just cannot see the new congress coming together of the of bipartisan legislation. They cannot pass any type of Immigration Reform bill they did not trust obama would force it to so that is why they put that up now. Now theres someone in the white house who has been enforcing immigration border enforcement. So can they strike any type of deal . But getting that bipartisan deal is the case. Hill will be covering it all. Thanks for joining as here at the center for democracy. The Japaneseamerican National Museum and also cspan
