Already. Here we go. Just in time for thanksgiving. A book to help you deal with people whom you disagree. So everyone, get im out and get your company. All right, gamble, intro, questions. Please send viewers up. They dont have to be just related to the book. It would go. My name is melissa kane, welcome to the club news posting of scott adams. In the new book, loser thing, the identity of shortterm debts. If these were thrown to leaving bad ideas. He is responsible for what people stereotyping all the time supporters is racist, leaving that gun control is equal to full compensation and most importantly avoiding self reflection join personal relationships and period were very excited to have him here with us tonight to discuss his new book. Loser thing. And whatever else you guys would like to ask him. He has told me that that thing is loft offlimits for so they go. Please welcome scott adams. [applause] loser say is the word i invented. I noticed join i was im twitter mostly the debating with various trolls and real people is it too, and every once in a while somebody would make a really good comment. And i say, i dont quite agree with that but that is really well put. So i would check in the profile, so the lawyer or economist, scientist. Then i would see, those just been shipped. Im not supposed to see that probably but i look at it and i would say, losing that. And i would click im the profile. And it would be a musician. Or a journalist, and im thinking to myself, is that a coincidence or is there something about from your experience in different fields, and teaches you how to say. In reflecting im my own experience. I have a degree in economics and an mba. And literally they teach you how to say. It is also much, the learning specifics and economics, they teach you how to compare things, teach you how to so cost, the teacher about the value of her name. And usually these are the some of the techniques that the teacher how to say productively about your world. So it scientist have their own way of looking at things and some historians and psychologist. And for some weird reason, ive had an experience in all of the skills. Im a trained hypnotist. Please dont pray [laughter] and ive worked in Corporate America for 16 years and held a variety of jobs from strategies and jobs in technology and just by chance, ive experienced a lot of domains. And then you pick up, how did they say in those domains. A lot of people just havent been exposed to them. So i thought it would write the book and fill in those gaps if you have any. For journalist, and if you are, and for people who are more disciplinary. Is it just the non humanities. [laughter] its not even learning the depth of those fields. So i can teach you how and economist thanks, will a good example. This how easy it is. If you never entered the concept of soak cost. Raise your hand. Maybe less than half. [laughter] so cost refers to the idea that if you already its been your her name im something, see youve invested it, thank you shouldnt look to that to make your next decision. Another words you should see that her name is gone. I cant get a bat, there is nothing i can do in the future that will change the fact that it is gone. It is sunk. If you make a decision based im the her name of our respect, which we will do, and they see, ive already put x dollars into this, i dont want to waste it. So i better double down the keep investing. Now that feels like common sense. The first time you hear that you cant change the path, see oh yeah, that sucks. Its fun. I was just a white decision as if i were starting today and ive never even heard of the other stuff. So thats how easy you can learn it. I dont need to be an economist you just have to see some of these things once and it becomes part of your thinking. How a loser thing because you really want to stay away from calling people domains. Actually run long, calling people stupid will not make them smart. [laughter] pending intro. But you said loser say, because you want to address the behavior and not demonize the person. See talk about these labels. And help that is one method of loser say. News one of the things that i learned is that mockery is incredibly powerful. Anyway see to me, i cant tell you how many people have said this. Lots of people. They would write me an email see we were going to do this certain policy at work, but we saw of years mocking it. So we decided not to. [laughter] because nobody wants to do the things already been pre mocked. The second rain have to wait. I mock you in advance. You dont even have to wait. No waiting. [laughter] in fact, even elon musk, when he is writing about what to his employees and how he wanted them to behave or the culture should be like, what are the steps was to not do anything. Policy wise that would make it into a comic. [laughter] now the power of that is that he didnt have to explain with event. Is Everybody Knows dilbert and the comic. You know them we do see them. Thats a dilbert situation there. I use that same technique by coming up with a word loser say, people can use and see hey thats a loser thing. Heres a photo that it took in the patient book that explains it better than i can. So i get permission to the book to tweet out a page. Two people who have a gap in their thinking. And he can be filled in. Noah of course having the word like loser say makes it easier to muck people. Nobody wants to hear, hey thats loser say. I was checking my twitter feed before he came in here. A lot of people are the book. Accusing other people look loser say. [laughter] i say it is already working. [laughter] sewing using mockery and to a much better way. Intent more productive thinking. To think people really need this book are going to buy it or do you think just like a holiday sale. Or for people buy it for them or their friends. [laughter] we do name a book loser think, you pretty much guaranteeing that theyre going to give it to somebody for the holidays. The real good news is it feels like a gift. But you are not really sure. [laughter] hey uncle bob, i get to this book. Loser think. You learn about other people. [laughter] so one of the chapters you write talks about a mindreading. Pun intended, you are in my mind with it. Because it is one of the most frustrating things that i see im the internet. People who are sort of trying to assert that they know whats in their soul or your mind are in somebody elses heart. Is another example like i try to name that. There mindreading the courses already were but applying it in a way gives them a little extra power. If you look that is, you see the funds jabbering one side of the other. Quite often, your jabbering is it about an assumption about what a stranger is thinking. What were their real motives. What is the real reason you are doing this. Now sometimes they are right, sometimes it is obvious stuff. Political stuff is usually pretty obvious many times you couldnt possibly know the stranger is thinking. Man is evidence that you are not good at mindreading, give you every relationship youve ever been in. Because there is probably 70 sitting right next to you in the last 24 hours, assumed you were mad we do werent or assumed they were hungry we were to assume that you are happy we do are. My husbands the front row be careful sir. [laughter] so mindreading is something that i call out and bite giving me the work of putting the goat was her think, it allows people to see oh yeah, that is a bad think. And weirdly enough, it was so pervasive, i dont know if i ever heard a Single Person ever call an elf. No, you imagining you could read some of his mind but in moments is called l, become sort of part of the conversation. And then you are going to start spotting it. Way to tell you what you see what happens in the coming weeks for you going to start seeing mindreading all over the place and you see, i guess its out before but it crystallized because somebody talked about it as a word. And i was a think. There are a lot of Great Concepts in the book. There is something here where i really feel like i read. In one part coming talk about the difference between coincidences and things that are actually you know, anything you should take seriously. His writing about this day, and is talking about all of these things are happening appears to be magical. I quote, a few days ago i arranged my collections of flashlights are in is like, you have a collection of flashlights. [laughter] this book should be called i have a collection of flashlights. How do you have, how many do you have, is our community. I need to know. I really like flashlights. I confess that readily. I built a shrine to my flashlights and women cave in my garage. Literally, i put them up the board and make sure they all had fresh batteries and everything. I never done that before. I always loved flashlights. Id always buy a new one. Site if my collection other than the raw fresh batteries, im so happy with it. In the First Time Ever ive been leaving in my house, somebody ran into a powerful suv, and plunged my neighborhood into darkness. In the same time that i built a shrine to flashlights. [laughter] is ours and myself, no problem, look my flashlights was good. So, do you have. Well i recycle and throws them have a good solid 25. The core collection. Are there antiques, they heard appointments. Is like a community where you like, oh thats that version. Thats amazing. Its been a thats a good idea. [laughter] now theyre mostly classic and and just like other look. I was like flashlights. Its hard to explain. Now we know. Thank you. So you are not a fan of the press. As a member of the press, i was really going, well, but i think is fair. Sue mckay didnt name you. At this time. [laughter] but i didnt feel like it was unfair. You are attacking the structure of the press. Even something that i think a lot of journalists wouldnt even disagree with you about. Sometimes a little bit about that how that that feeds into the way people think. Selected put it into a context of a small technological change. Nobody noticed what happened. Which is the ability to measure with precision what people are clicking im and even why in some cases. And once that was the case, once everybody could measure, these people click im this and these people click im that. It would become obvious as it did. The things they want to click im are the crazy stuff. The things that make your hair catch im fire, i want to hear about the budget. I would hear about an impeachment. I want to hear about a plot or the government. Some really good stuff. So we are all elevated in our opinions because the news model is forcing us towards more provocative stuff. So are before they wouldve just said, here is the news snore. Now it is replaced the entertainment to a large extent. Off of some of you would relate to this pre hemi of you watch the news like entertainment. Its also much for the news anymore but for the last. Seventy liars in here. Everybodys hand should be up. So that is the big problem. Once you can measure stuff, there is no way the Public Companies with their open stockholders could do anything but do things that can get the most attention. Most attention. To recognize if you are in a bubble and how to communicate. I recommend pharmaceuticals. [laughter] not in the way that you think. If you watch the news as i do quite a bit, they are pharmaceutical commercials that come on if you make the mistake of actually listening to them you can hear more problems than anybody could have healthwise. You could take this pill and we will solve your problems but you have diarrhea and your lungs will be congested forget about sex because all drugs take that off the table. There is a pharmaceutical commercial first of all get it off because i dont want to hear about the problems because i dont have those problems. Because then you think i do have a rash as a matter of fact. So to change the channel as quickly as possible to the opposite cnn or fox news and in that way a lot of the ugly commercials i expose myself to you have to do it the way i do it but otherwise you dont really know whats going on you may thank you do. You talk about your dog snickers and that has stayed with me you said a she thinks im an idiot which is clearly communicating to me it is time to do so snickers knows i am physically able to go outside so if i dont stop what im doing and take her out does she think im stupid . So sometimes you are snickers and sometimes you are you in this scenario to really think about where the other person is coming from. So being an artist or a creative person gives you a little better vision as the engineer and the scientist. So with those different styles of thinking because there is genius. But in this example an artist may have a bigger propensity to imagine explanations from the facts of the story is that if you saw my dirty car you would say he could afford to get a wash he could so he could afford that and its never washed is he saving water . He cares about something what is the reason . The one is that you would never imagine i have irrational fear of public instruction that want to be a public where everybody can see me and figure out the instructions while people are watching. [laughter] i am too literal. It would be very clear about for example it says wait here and then the cashier says next then for a moment im stuck it says wait and you say go up i dont know if you have that authority. [laughter] did you make the sign . Is this your sign or your bosses sign . Because i am waiting here. I dont want to get in this car wash and then they have to dismantle it to free me and then idiot cartoonist destroys the car wash. Thats why my car is dirty. Did anybody guess that . Know. You have to make assumptions to live. You cannot live without continuously making assumptions including what people are thinking no matter how poorly we do it you have to do it to survive but just be aware just because you cannot think that another resource could happen especially watching the news that doesnt mean the reason given is the reason i talk about the 48 hour rule if you see something on the news that make sure blood boil how could that happen then two days later the news says we got that wrong. That didnt happen so just wait a couple days before you get too worked up about anything. Why does dogberts tail always wag when he does evil . [laughter] they are versions of me if you have a lot of different personalities dogbert is the part of our personality that says and does the things i could not do because i would be beaten up or jailed. But i think those things i just dont do them dogbert can do them he wags his tail so i have ears and a tail to work with thats it. When you find yourself using loser think that you have to be conscious of crack. I fall into all the time using analogies for more than what they should be used for it so easy because its a natural way to talk analogies are great for explaining a new concept telling a new zebra or a horse its a good shortcut but what you dont want to do is use that analogy to predict if you turn on the news it will make no sense if you see he has a marking under his nose like a hitler mustache that doesnt mean they will invade poland. [laughter] likewise if you see the president trying to impress dictators did that that doesnt mean they will invade poland either. Weather to be productive or politically productive but dont take the analogy as predictive thats a bad way to predict. You talk about a number of things of how the sky will fall and how annoying with history repeating itself. One of the biggest loser thinking youve heard it a million times history repeats history does not repeat it cannot there is a different situation and different variables you are familiar with the evidence that tells you not to do that this time but the way it feels it repeats is the analogy problem but we dont notice the times it doesnt repeat if you could say here are your charts all the time it didnt repeat because it couldnt and it look like something that happened before it is self protective. Coincidentally you will not notice the one that did not repeat. You talk a little bit about your political views and in some ways they are very liberal although now you do a lot on twitter engaging people about allegations with the president how did that come to be and how you ended up in this position thats liberal on certain issues to defend a republican president quex. I called myself left of bernie a little joke on myself because there was nothing left of bernie so as a way of characterizing myself but then the democrats said people were left of bernie. [laughter] so now i had to speak for myself. So on social issues i am left of bernie i believe he would like to legalize marijuana i would go further to legalize more drugs even a test on opioids. And with abortion liberals and bernie would say yes underwrite conditions i go left of that and say i have a penis. I am out. Whatever you do i am supportive i will be quiet and supportive i dont have that skin in the game i dont have the extra mail smarts on top of your decision. Its exactly the same if i have an opinion or not so the most credible laws when you have laws people will kill over people kill over this then that is potentially destructive no matter which way it goes the people say i didnt get my way so its important the way that we arrive that data is credible the more datable the less credible i dont think men and women have that much difference art men and women about the same roughly . I dont add anything so i take myself out. 2015 im just writing about whatever caught my attention and my background as a trained hypnotist i saw trump and said i recognize that technique that is a grade a incredible persuasion so i declared him a genius they say hes a clown but why is it working . There is technique and you dont see it if you dont have that experience but i can see it clearly and other people who have the same background could also see a just as clearly and what we saw a guy bringing a flame floor one throw her to a stick fight so i was just writing about persuasion but then you get pulled into it now suddenly i got dragged in but i will say i did get to meet the president he invited me to the oval office so sitting there with the president of the United States on the other side of the desk just chatting. [laughter] no experience i will ever have that will come close of how cool that was. So i will come to the fact you cannot hang out with him and still be as critical maybe as you could have been because i like him personally if you hang out with him for ten minutes no matter what you started with ten minutes later you say hes a nice guy. Hes very generous. He has more responsibility and for half an hour he made me feel like i was the only thing that mattered and the only person in the room. And hell do that to you to. Hears that thing he does have that charisma and the ability to make people like him. So im not biased personally. I like him. What i thought the country would get out of him i didnt feel any conflict i thought he was a toolkit of tools we have never seen before. Sometimes you get stuck in it something an ordinary politician cant talk about like trade with china when we first started talking about it trade war is bad. Look at that record stock market. Trade war is not so bad. And we never make an agreement i think we will be fine. So he brought a set of tools that i thought could be breaking one broke free that the jukebox needed to be shaken and then after you shake the box i knew that it would be messy i didnt think he would break it but everybody that vote for him knew that they got the breakage and the benefits are enormous at this point like beating the caliphate if you dont like those things maybe you have a different opinion but the personal stuff of course he is driving people crazy. The way people feel about each other and the political heat that is the expense but i thought it was a worthy expense to get some stuff done. The next president can bring the temperature down a bank off of those investments. I think trump will win easily for reelection i dont think thats a doubt at this point. But after . Thats where it will get interesting because sooner or later matt gates at aoc will be running against each one other not 2024. Shes not he might be barely but presumably i identified as another master persuader long before he talked about anything politically all my god there is something he is doing is not like normal people but i just see something there is that extra persuasive level there and you see it you see the impact he has on everything anytime you inject kanye into any topic it changes. Hes such a force. Now he is doing this religious revival stuff i think he said he was setting his sights higher than president literally i think he was to be a spiritual leader in the United States actually think he has bigger sites than the president. We dont have a spiritual leader who was nondenominationa nondenominational. Do we . Do it. [laughter] you have macon church and those that have a leader but not a nondenominational that would be regarded by everybody to be openminded to all religions. You dont think president. I think he may have a bigger role. What about the democrats now including bloomberg . Do they have a shot quex. Years ago i wrote bloomberg would be an excellent choice for president he is middleoftheroad he was pragmatic he had all the qualities. But he is also 77. If you havent seen his speech or even worse his mobile phone video he did, you have to tell these guys 72 turn the phone sideways if you can do that you cannot be president. [laughter] if you havent seen him yet give a speech to announcer that video that i just mentioned you have to see it because hes not the Mike Bloomberg used to be. Now its a little bit of a joke great patriot great contribution to the country and respect for both of those people but there is an age where its time for somebody in the family to guide you off. [laughter] unfortunately he is mayor but if hes trying to be president or if he has a better play. Because that allows him to go in strong against trump plus he gets tv time maybe hes doing it just for the democrats just to weaken trump so maybe its a way to take out biden because bloomberg goes in then i will come off a little bit similar age and similar politics so he might be doing it just to get biden out because he cant possibly win against trump that the terrible matchup. So what about Elizabeth Warren for example quex. Im sure bloomberg doesnt want Elizabeth Warren to be president either. But i think it helps. So to imagine you have to work pretty hard probably hes just running for president but hes so smart and strategic its hard to understand why you would do something you cannot possibly win so doesnt look like he could win. So when your book you write about Financial Advisors some parts of the book or how to be more skeptical like what you hear about the horrible people in the media. But you write of how to be skeptical and then you write to the twitter ready perks that says be skeptical of any expert who has a financial incentive to mislead you with no risk at their end and i wrote political consultants. So a couple of dudes with a powerpoint say here is the plan give out a bunch of money and this happens all the time especially in california we see this all the time wealthy people just burning their money. So that may be part of it as well. Thats one of the best hypothesis i have not heard that before when you think it through how hard would it be for persuasive consultant who know they get a big paycheck to get on to convince a 77 yearold this is your time. [laughter] that borders on elder abuse. [laughter] but if its a billionaire you are still okay. [laughter] now we have audience questions. Jordan peterson for a long time i would ban people from mentioning him on my periscope. Is because he was so popular i was sick of hearing about him. [laughter] what you think of Jordan Peterson . Band. [laughter] but then i listen to him. I listen to a Youtube Video it doesnt matter which one because theyre all amazing and i thought this is powerful and different and important normally dont go to youtube to find something important but i thought this is just way beyond helpful this is important. So i started to watch is content it was so useful i dont know how to explain it it was just so different and fresh and he was changing people. You have heard the story hes checked himself in for rehab he had some issues for quite think he is still there working through it. I realize you say you hate to see your heroes that he is a role model. Him going into rehab was one of the most important things to happen in this country and when he comes back it will be awesome. [laughter] with those videos about religion and those spiritual leaders and that way. But just on that point the fact to have it together in terms of how to live your life to go to rehab that is an important message. Its not about smarter or clever or trying harder addiction is its own thing and can get anybody. You once had a fear of public speaking how did you get over it quex. I didnt have a fear but i took the Dale Carnegie course thats one of the best things i have ever done. It was life altering so to talk to a group of people as easily if youre just talking to somebody now. I watched person after person because i couldnt stand in front of people and talk. I remember watching a woman in class and you have to volunteer to talk so you have to decide when youre ready to talk. And she could not make words and started sweating. I watched beads of sweat role offered nose and down her chin that was her experience know what you need to know about the class theres only one rule to never criticize anything and everybody is complemented. So they will never hear a bad word about them. She goes back to her chair completely defeated. We are dying for her in the audience the instructor gets up and says wow. That was brave. And its true. The next time she came up a little bit better by the end of the class she is a professional speaker because she lives through the worst and got a lot of compliments. So watching the transformation will of nothing but positive words is lifechanging. If you realize the power of a complement if you withhold that complement you were thinking if youre thinking something good to let them know. Its almost immoral if you have a complement and you dont share it. What a great point. Thank you. [laughter] [applause]. So what are some go to questions quex. Here is a technique when people disagree with you they think they disagree with my opinion but really they argue the misleading thing and then i say thats not my opinion but do they argue the actual opinion . Never. They just turn that into a new wrong opinion. So that has never worked in my entire life. But this technique when you say to the person who is arguing with you just one thing that you think is true then we say no we agree we both think that is true. Thats the third one and then they usually disappear. And then agree on those central points. Why argue with folks . Because it seems so futile to spend your energy to try to change peoples minds assuming it is a human and there you are spending your time to change the opinions. I can only speak for myself that i get benefits the ordinary person does not get because for one people follow my twitter and the comments. Because i have a cartoonist i have more comments than other people because thats my job. And that is part of the show so i could argue but i also am drawn to it but its also educational so you learn other peoples arguments so to me its all good but i have a very high tolerance for trolls and insults and personal insults. But i have a high tolerance and that does not bother me i can get the benefits. That is a superpower. Would he tell someone who is a conservative is it possible to be overly conservative to run a persons career . Now. [laughter]. And then to keep the most provocative stuff to yourself but if you are surrounded and that the salesperson trick and all the things you can agree with you can imagine them in style with the body language to make them feel more bonded and connected the day will feel it so they are like me in all these ways. So you set the table that they have agreed with you so now you can introduce. Dilbert is the only one i have been a subscriber for over ten years havent they learned from their mistakes . The beauty of the comic strip world so i dont have to think too hard because you already have the character so we just pick the topic and say that something a lazy guy would respond to. Its easier to write once you have your character set. Which dilbert character are you . Is that one you feel especially close to . So to have my lack of social graces so basically an extended version hes an engineer and im not his face is based on a coworker. Here is the fun part. She doesnt now. [laughter] i have never told him. Lets tell him now. I didnt know him that well he is in the office he just looked like a walking dilbert. Years later has he ever bed in line does anybody ever say you remind to me but i cant place a. [laughter] why dont you like the godfather films . I feel like i need security to get out. [laughter] i will make a general statement i cannot watch movies at all i have completely given up because my Attention Span has shrunk now it is twitter sized so watch a two and a half hour movie on anything is painful like going to the dentist. Is moving so slow. The producers the godfather making fun of the avenger films where that was scorsese of the superhero films i was thinking there is a reason they make 1 billion because they are entertaining if they dont theres a reason because theyre not that entertaining. So i have a weird background i dont care how much art went into it. Where dilbert was created with a generic cartoon. So unlike scorsese what do my buyers want in the workplace . Done for quite moved into the workplace and thats where took off. I am not on the side of the artist that have artistic integrity that i have heard of. [laughter] i tried to avoid it at all cost. And you should be making things for the audience and not yourself. If they are willing to shell out some hard cash. Let the hate mail begin. [laughter] what is the most dangerous idea that you have. I guess dangerous to whom . I am a believer we live in assimition you have heard too many times anybody watches my periscopes i talk about this too much so this requires a little explanation first let me say there are brilliant people elon musk is one nick is one. All the smartest people and the idea if its possible in our lifetime for us to build a Little Software world where the characters live as if they are real they have a belief they are real characters. Now today it would be a basic version but in 30 years people will act like they are alive and as far as we know they are. Eventually it will happen in this lifetime or the one after. The minute we can make a little world thats a Software Solution we will make a bunch of them. How do you know it hasnt already happened . There are lots of them in the people in them think they are real. So the questions you ask yourself its dangerous because you would rip apart anything you would believe and there would be chaos so what would the world look like if we were programmed . You wouldnt program a world that if your character is not walking to the adjacent property it is never formed does our world look like that . If you go down to the smallest level things dont exist they probably do until somebody sees that are measures that. It doesnt come into being or become solid until somebody needs it for measures it or observes it. Also to have a world can you get to the edge of the universe . Know. So all the things you would need to be true is all they are. And if they are really welldesigned will have its own simulation all the way down. This is a theory you cannot get out of because how do you disprove it . I dont have a solution to prove it but like most of your religious beliefs that are tough to falsify but if he is powerful he could hide so then it could be proven or disproven. If you live like a simulation you could hack it that would be one explanation as it is right now because my life is crazy. I justin went and chatted with the president. [laughter] i have a cartoon strip. I can talk to you people i dont have a normal life in any way but i have lived it like i can program it. So taking the assumption from an early age that it is programmable for me and i treated it that way i program exactly the life i fantasized as a kid exactly the life i imagined at six years old. What is the name of the book . How to fail at almost everything. So this feeds into this speaking of poets there is one poet who characterizes our tacky culture illiterate boring and awash with money. What do you make of that . The reason as the creator of dilbert i love that Technology World for i wish i went to school for a technical degree because if i were not doing what i was doing that is what i would be doing. I would be building apps for going to have a start up and i build apps. I love it. But i do hear terrible things from people who are in it. I hear even people making good money in tech are desperately unhappy for a variety of reasons i dont know if thats true or how universal it is but it doesnt sound good. As long as i have material for dilbert. What about persuasion . We want to know your comments. How many have you have heard the name Norman Vincent peel . He was already well known one of the most influential authors and writers about the power of positive thinking with the idea you could program your assimilation and didnt use those words but program your life by changing how you thought brick i was very influenced by that and so was donald trump. In fact not only is Norman Vincent peel a bestselling author but also the trump family pastor or minister but that is who he would see in church. You go to church on sunday the most influential person who lived in the United States maybe tony robbins is after. That is the influence he gets every sunday. I asked him about that actually when i talked to him. He went on and on how amazing he was actually norman was accused of being a hypnotist because he was so influential. We know the president picked it up and he got it honestly from the best source ever. Of about to see a study of all the people that attended that church and compare them to the average. That would be interesting because i can almost guarantee their life results are completely different than ordinary people. I dont know much about roy colon he was not big on apologizing, he was a hack and with those qualities you see those in trump but also the persuasion part so he has a lot going for him. As you talk in the book of the various kinds of arguments like Climate Change. So with the wildfires and mudslides talk about your perspective on how people should think about Climate Change in a way that is not loser think. Whatever you thought about Climate Change before you will think the same thing. But a productive way to analyze it if that causes you to change your own mind, that your business. But here are some insights. It is useful to break up the Climate Change conversation into its parts to give Different Levels of credibility. The center part is what the scientists are doing the chemistry and physics if you add co2 to the air. Im pretty sure they got that right because that seems right in their strike sewn and repeated in laboratory tests. That is solid. So now scientist art the persuasion they are not good at that. They make models. Are the models accurate . Nobody knows. There is lots of debate so what happens to the models that did not work . Do they keep them or throw them away . If you throw away the ones that did not work this year they will work exactly like your models work so there is an illusion there. Are they going up at a rate we should be alarmed at . Because we should measure the temperature probably we are reasonably solid but then there is the third part and heres where it goes down. To figure how big of a deal it is it comes down to money. And to prove it from the economics part so once it gets to the economic part whats the liability you put on that . Heres an eyeopener that if it goes the way its predicted the un says the gdp could be 10 percent lower so i think to myself that is trillions and trillions of dollars and a 10 percent reduction in our Economy Today would be massively expensive and people would starve to death its a big deal. I also have a degree from economics and i said in 80 years our gdp will be five or ten times bigger than it is now after it has gone up five or ten times if its 10 percent less would you notice . You wouldnt know the difference. You would think things are great the food would be cheaper the robots scratch your back perk was a wonderful world. Keep in mind that is the un dyer worstcase. But then you wont even notice it. That the gdp could be so big . Is that accurate . Probably not. We have no idea the economics. And to get swallowed up by wells fargo and pacific bell was a net by verizon. So what do you do about this with great uncertainty . There are several startups building giant scrubbing machines pulling the co2 out of the air and will turn into products. But which of those are the winner . I dont know maybe none of them its hard to know which company would last so with this co2 scrubbing stuff i dont know if those startups will last but it is a thing it will be an industry and a big deal because they will pay a lot for it. And the Nuclear Power to tell you what you need to know your grandfathers Nuclear Power was more dangerous than it needed to be and all the meltdowns we heard of like fukushima or chernobyl we would never build any of those models today. Today is generation three. And to never have a Nuclear Incident at zero. And ever created that is killing people literally they are falling off roof installing solar panels more people have died from solar panels. Were people have died from windmill that all generation three Nuclear Power plants of the world and now theres generation for. That is backed by people like bill gates so a Company Called terra power this is one of them. It cant eat existing Nuclear Waste as its fuel it actually reduces it in the world you put it right next to an old plant it eats the old waste if everything goes wrong it just turns off. So then you have to feed the energy to go up and down. So those versions when the energy goes away the action goes away those are already designed and looking for a place to build a. Because any reduce the Nuclear Waste. With an 80 year projection for Climate Change im glad some people are panicked but we as a population and a species are really good at solving problems when we see them coming that far away. I will not worry about it because i think they have the sandal. On that optimistic note thank you to scott adams for joining us today.
