Good evening, okay here we go, excellent. All right, thank you guys so much for coming tonight my name is christian pinkston. We want to welcome you to our new home. We are so honored and thankful you guys are here. But we are not here for us. All of you probably know brian killed lead from his job posting fox and friends. [applause] it is the most popular morning cable news show on the planet for 213 months, two weeks and four days is that right brian . You might also know brian from his nationally syndicated radio show, is on almost 150 radio stations across the country. Talkers magazine named him one of the top radio host in america. Between get this, everybody, between tv and radio, brian is on the airwaves six hours a day, five days a week. And yet, he is found the time to write a string of New York Times bestselling books, George Washington secret six, Thomas Jefferson and the pirate, Andrew Jackson in the miracle of new orleans, total his books have reached over [a5 million readers around the world. With this is fairly impressive. [applause] these are history books, this is impressive. His latest book which were celebrating tonight, is sam houston and the alamo avengers. It is yet another bestseller, debuted last week as number three in the New York Times bestseller list. [applause] unfortunately, this just came out and he is not at three anymore, he is at two. [applause] so congratulations thats for the awesome but if you have not read it you are in for a treat and i have got good news for you tonight. You are taking home a signed copy of his new book. We are so honored to have him tonight and he is going to speak to us on a couple minutes, he told me he might take a few questions. If you are kind to him. So welcome back to the bestseller list, brian, thank being here. For [applause] [cheering] thank you very much. Thank you all for coming out tonight. I really dont know anybody. Sebut you all seem very nice, well dressed in your all wearing the same type of blue which is somewhat scary. Dylan martinez is in such a great job leading the way with publicity. You can have the best book, you can have the best message you can have the best story but youve got to tell people its out there there so many bogreat books out into the right plan to launch. So far i have never, this is my six the book overall, my fourth one was sentinel and i have never thing hit on all gears like this for this long. We have been out for about three weeks we are just doing the best we can to get the word out. So its great, christian thank you for hosting this for me. I was ael little reluctant to do it, to comen into washington in the middle of the week you commend here you be worth it, you see these offices the professionalism and to know you guys are drinking and eating for free makes me feel better. [laughter] we dont want to eating in washington d. C. With a jacked up rates. Its good to see things so calm in washington these days, not much happening. Its also great to have a his and trend history book out with is a historical everything where is more compelling each second if you go to the restroom for a minute you lose four major stories. So you dont im gonna rush the speech if you knowh what im saying. My goal has always been to get away from politics with this. There is enough trouble, bush, clinton, obama books out there. Theres nothingn i can bring new to the city they do not know intimately. My goal is until an american story to tell in a way which dave mccullough, john beauchamp, douglas brinkley, they do it comprehensively i read those books and close them and say i know one thing for sure, i cannot do that. What i wanted to do is get major figures in history that you know who is on the cover, but when you open it up you understand more about the people that made them great. Like many people in this room, you do great things on a daily basism. About flame unchecked fame and acclaim. America is made up of average people and doing extraordinary things without getting a pat on the back. What these people were known in their time but not in our time. If you wash up George Washington secret six he said love George Washington a bit when you close that you think about the loan sure man, you think of the bartender, you think about the farmer. When the open up Thomas Jefferson the pirates, you think Thomas Jefferson is great, you know about so many others. Is this when you leave here today if you are at the water cooler, sports bar hanging out at a tailgate, go in challenge you and say americas history everybody is proud of their history, every proudest part ou their untrimmed proud of their fast. Thats fine, hope we are proud nation would to give you more illustrations heavy go to bat with and sit there and look around and say when i was born in america hit the lotto and every day we have a chance to go play in the super bowl in. All we want is a chance to be successful. We dont want the same guaranteed, we dont want the outcome decided, we dont want baby box we dont guaranteed a thousand dollars, went to the best weekend of being successful so i thought a good series of his story they cant take it away over doing we try to find another story i keep on going back to texas. Anybody are from texas . [applause] you guys are so prideful of your past. I did not know there is such a blend between Texas History in American History. I thought for nine years they had their own thing going with the lone star state. That was fine. I didnt really look at until 1800 texas was just wide open. It was up to moses also to make a deal he brings 300 American Families because believe it or not america, come to the new world people wanted a new shot after a new. All they wanted was maybe a chance to be successful and see what texas had offered they got a gun, rate, plow. They went ahead and made a living. With they were able to doo and grind out how theyre going to stand up for freedom and liberty, i thought it was a story important to tell. If i y could introduce you to he sam houston, you know about the president s but this guy should have been president. Thought a perfect president but is mentioned by guy and her jackson i did something i wanted to do i love the rocky movies because i believe there based on a true story. I love the rocky movies and they open up and flashed back to the previous rocky movie in its own now i why im in the theater. I was able to open up with Andrew Jackson the miracle of new orleans and we tell that story what happens in that battle in the battle that had to be thought while the british if they had one wouldve had to keep new orleans had a return of the Louisiana Purchase and stop us from going past the mississippi. I open up with the battle of horseshoe beds because this guy sam houston is fighting and another man, and her jackson. As able to start there in 1814 sam houston once a talk about courage, he was told he was impervious but he got shot three times and should have died. He learned it has to be calculated when its time to get commission which awash in a pretty close to your corded to the map, i have a wage it was burned to the ground what is he learn . This countrys fragile, courage has to be calculated. How does it payoff . And 1835 in 1836 is gotta take some of the toughest men in american tell them to do so that they dont want to do and thats run away. Except for one battle and we have to win it. Right now are not as they are running away, hes training him, gathering him, shaping the battlefield until he finally sets it up at the end. I thought if he could tell that story and i could arm you guys with another story about this great country even though we seem as if her pulling each other part if i tell you how bad it was and how close we came to total destruction you will not overreact about Rudy Giuliani and the review crane. [laughter] [applause] so what it would take a short timeout, the audiovisual portion not only to get free food you get a movie, four rminutes, lets watch sam houston, the alamo avengers this is as it aired on fox news. 1776 americas independence the United States was born. Six decades later this independence fighting americans this time it was mexico and the battle was for texas. In the early 1830s texas happened to be an independent state of mexico, but that all changed when general Antonio Lopez took power. He began shelved liberty which was perceived to break away. These guys are ready to fight. Assmack to whoevers controlled sated toady would control the inter part of texas. Once we had colonel travis and james they alamo got volunteers. Surprise of many of the texas army was outnumbered into which an organizer take over the Alamo Mission bad news is coming, general santa ana would step up sam houston had orders to evacuate, and he decided to stay along with the colonel also affected one the most famous men in americaam the time David Crockett was under his command. Davy crockett and travis its freedom or death. [inaudible] most people are not courageous alone. You get courage from the people you are around spirit of people around you show optimism,. [inaudible] for 13 days travis is been fought seriously sometimes over 1000 casualties were santa anas army. Every texan killed there supposed to intimidateim sam houston itt didnt. 1836 we sent to the alamo massacre the goal 400 men knew they were about to be engaged, see engagement sam houston never wanted to see happen. Once again his orders were note heeded. He hesitated in the cot in the middle of an open field. Were fighting in exchange he was allowed to live he trusted mexican general to hold his word. He didhe not. The men were marched out and executed. Sam houston knew he had to give one of the toughestnp most unpopular orders in his career. Take the men he had left and retreat. Thats known today as the runner roy scrape. This the war of attrition. Houston wanted to preserve himself in texas. Two the formations and strategies at which time we come to. [inaudible] sam houston and his texas army, go through the american border record rest my guys or you can make this decision follow that and ribs santa ana and the mexican army would be waiting. After much thought sam houston decide to finally fight the first and only time that santa ana and sam houston would square off and hooted take you better through this battle scooby moore. Tat the time it took for texas to overwhelm, completely surprised mexican army. It would on for two hours but it 18 minutes to achieve total victory. What is agatha group that got annihilated at the alamo, got massacred, took 18 minutes to win santa ana . So they achieve the ultimate surprise. Sam houston led the texas right for freedom resulted in an ultimate victory and soon change the world. I think its pretty clear etwe have to get our reenactors in better shape. [laughter] these were lean muscular john wayne type characters for it i give them credit for showing up that day its fantastic. I know you had to spend that logic. In the santa ana would be captured in instead of going to get revenge and hanging from the highest tree, they decide to tilt santa ana to sign over texas and call off your reinforcements. This gotta be calculated, revenge has to be calculated that end up holding on to santa ana, bringing him to Andrew Jackson and washington and jackson would ultimately oversee the fact that young back to mexico. It would haunt us for 20 more years. That was the story. That is him under an sam houston alamo adventures, softer pretty goods start because i believe its Texas History that changed American History because move south and west because of that. Also understand this jefferson and jackson thoroughly believed that texas was the Louisiana Purchase. He could not believe president monroe and secretary of state John Quincy Adams signed it over in exchange for florida. We dont really talk about that, but that then it was one of the i hottest issues in the country. I just thought by going back and reclaiming it and understanding it, and explain it, people would start being tapping into the patriotism again. George washington secret six i saturday for 20 years, help people will be interested Thomas Jefferson i know people can relate to it and Andrew Jackson a 13yearold who loses his entire family and is raised by his town, county, country. By the time this book comes out i feel like im on a mini mission to push back on those who dont understand how great this country is. I have no problem saying that. We are not perfect. But i think whats great about us as we are trying to be. The reason we argue and fight is because we do something our parents told us not to do, we argue in front of strangers. [laughter] when its all said and done its because of the same goal, we have different ways of get there to make the country better place. I would like to also take some questions from you guys if you have any. Also tell you that i do have to be up at 230 and be on the air tomorrow. Its going be fun in new york, and also encourage you if youre ever around orlando, a jacksonville, mclean virginia and few other stops were going to be going for the next two months see if we can tackle donald trump junior hes got a head starts got a famous status on twitter now. [laughter] he tends to push the book a little bit. Its a great guy and a great book called trigger. With that exhibit have any questions . [inaudible question] guest let meu. Explain 72. I am a met fan. [laughter] sit very tough to root for others, im not a yankee hater. Im in arkansas a razorback guy. Guest obviously that team is fantastic on a serious note i used to do all sports radio. What happened in 2017 with the yankees up three games of two and losing four games to three that was a revelation about what the astros were doing in 2017 is going to make interesting time. I dont know how baseballs going to get on top of the spirit find the dodgers, im not too happy if im that yankees and not too happy. And then they beat them again. With this hold sign stealing thing so baseball cant get out of their own way it itseems. Whats next . Guest i dont know, i and to find something minix for five weeks theyre going to retire and i will have the Retirement Party right here. I want to find a side of history you know the headline but you probably dont know the details. I will look for something on the inside. Really special thanks to fox they let me do in our special on the alamo. While maybe other channels or design impeachment, inside retirement i was able to do sam houston and the alamo adventures. Also to point out fox they should let me do the serious what made america great. I got it chance to travel the country to separate documentaries of it the last 18 months on this country and the things you dont know her or forgotten been a great experience. [inaudible question] guest i started as a sports guy because i thought that was my quickest way to get on the air and it probably was. When i wanted to take a break since i dont often have very few friends, i wouldve opened up a history book. That is what i was passionate for. To be honest i never thought i would writing one, ever. When bill oreilly started writing his great books and encourage me so much. We were from the same neighborhood. I am from long island and when i told them i had this wise story ive been thinking about for 20 years and i gave them details they said youve got to write that. Instead of saying i do history at fox he said no youve got to write that. I was heading and chapters in his handing them back to me. When the firstan was done i went to tell him what you didnt stand up and they said get out on the high. If you have a closing you have a loud laugh before the close, leave. Because youre never going to yomatch it. So i set for 20 years old to play the story little do they know i dont have a backup. So successfully so what you interested in i said we are kneedeep in been lotta, war on afghanistan and anybody someone writes with perspective on why we are in this war, jefferson dealt with the first find out how jefferson did it track it through madison and thats what led me to the jefferson library, university of virginia there able to give me some of the regular documents i said let me try that next thing im doing jackson im standing at pinkston targum at the alamo i am it accidental historical author who is passionate about it. [inaudible question]. I know they were shooting each other back then i get it, there were duels. There were just as angry. There is a sense of service, more of a sense of service can be more about service in the country sam houston is the best example j we decided to do this in the paperback. Sam houston, told Texas Governor were not going to civil war were not joining the confederacy part he got out voted and quits. Lincoln reached out to him and said i will provide the troops of money if you want to try to take texas back because we dont want texas and the confederacy. Because jackson, you live in the south youre in the south its all about keeping the country together first. Jackson was outraged at the northern states did not want to join the war of 1812 he was all about the country first. He was outraged South Carolina one to succeed. I just think of politicians today have to say to themselves what is better for the country not the party . I have a belief if you listen to the radio show especially, i have a belief that compromise will be soon. You need some cover i get that. So if trump wins, or someone on the democratic side it is somewhat moderate winds, theyre going to sit down and do immigration, the going to do healthcare. Because what we know . We dont do matter how brilliant you think your Healthcare Plan is or your immigration plan is, as soon as the other party gets power they will tear it up than they are going to tear up there as you can do yours nothings can get done. Were going to have to do the same called compromise. I think it will become en vogue soon you think im right . No you dont. Brian, do you remember the alamo . Guest yes and ill tell you this i b wanted to go beyond the alamo my second feature fox station asked me to it doke is the alamo and i said how do we do this to a broader audience of the 49 states. When it got there he felt as if i told it comprehensively, what led to it, what happened to it happened after there tight be a market for. But i love the fact that guys like phil collins, the number one alamo in the world from genesis, and a guy like sammy mcchrystal, he joined me at the alamo, he joined us in the special. He said in military colleges still study it. 180 guys could hold off 3000 plus for 13 days. If they just got a couple hundred more they mightve even one. If jim buie by the myth it is him are the legend he is if he did have Something Like tuberculosis or scurvy, i dont know what he was suffering from iva feeling he would still be live. Thats how they wrote about this guy, he wouldve found a way. Smack a little off the subject i know youre a good fitness guy have you ever had an mm a match . [inaudible] speaking he kicks me in the side real hard. [laughter] hate if you go to his house, what you do is you after right into the helipad. [laughter] you go to his house come he brings you down there and you spar with them little bit. But as you knowou sir what youre alluding to, i did the first four ufcs. I did not fight him i called him. I watched before they were weight classes, divisions if you one you go back to the locker room and fought four times in a night for championship. To see hisethi sumo guy weighing 450 pounds or maybe 600 pounds a 180pound karate guy in the netherlands and have the first shot knockout at his tooth and land on notes. I was one of the first guys to visit the octagon when he designed it. Back then they wanted me to it do interviews say 1070 died tonight . I said no im not saying that bassem he could have died that night. It was crazy nobody ever predicted it would be this successful. One thing about him, if youre going to spar with sean, get a hotel room because hes going to fight you all night. Civic what is your best experience afar with. [inaudible] guest overall . First off. [laughter] first off Allison Mansfield is on the strike shes pregnant with twins shes on the show does everything. Oswe have been to the most interesting tour ever which is typical fox which is outside major cities, wound to omaha, lincoln, dayton, we went to Wichita Falls texas and went to waco texas sanor antonio, my forgetting anything . Oh south bend indiana. What im finding is this, when you go to texas, i cant believe how many people who are related to sam houston with the paperwork or related to someone who fought in the battle. When you go to orlando or washington say i moved here year ago for my job you go to the cities i mentioned, they say ive been here 30 years, 40 years, 50 years my family fought in the revolution. There is such pride in theseey areas. To be honest is not a rumor. This is rough terrain you go to nebraska on ncm mountain. You just see flat the bind that ties these towns and their history, thats what im taking away. People come up to me and say they are related to the story and they thank you for keeping their family story life, thats what i walk away with. Thank you for that question. Christian thank you for throwing this party and thanks so much for reading the book. Thank you so much for coming out. [applause] thank you so much brian. As aat native texan this is the best night of my life. [laughter] a couple, four or five pieces of all good news for you.
