CWRU is finding AI applications for solar energy
Case Western Reserve University
A three-year U.S. Department of Energy grant is helping researchers at Case Western Reserve University make solar power more efficient.
According to a post on the university's The Daily site, the $750,000 grant is part of a broad effort by the department to fund solar technologies. The Case Western Reserve work is looking for ways to use artificial intelligence and to analyze data from solar power plants.
"Solar is now the cheapest form of electricity in the world, but the efficiency of the actual power plants is being analyzed one at a time, and that's just not tractable, especially for a fast-growing industry," Roger French, director of the Solar Durability and Lifetime Extension Research Center, said in the post. "This project will help us learn where we can make improvements to make solar power even more efficient."
