It would cost about $22.4 billion to build and launch, but a 1,000-km/h first-of-its-kind tube transport system linking Edmonton and Calgary would make economic sense, says its prospective developer.
Passengers paying $90 for a one-way, 45-minute trip between the cities would help make the elevated hyperloop feasible and add 6.25 per cent to the province’s GDP over nine years, say officials with TransPod, the Toronto-based firm pushing the concept that’s already received some support from the UCP government.
Those findings are in a feasibility study prepared by the company and Alberta Transportation that also suggest 140,000 jobs would be created in the construction phase.
