A Tahoe driver who survived seven days stranded in the Sierra told officials he was led astray by a GPS navigation system that directed him down a notoriously treacherous mountain road.
Rescuers helicoptered Harland Earls of Placer County to safety Sunday, two hours after emergency dispatchers tracked his cell phone to a remote country road in the heart of Tahoe National Forest and seven days after he started out on what should have been a straight shot to a friend’s home, Sierra County officials said.
