Two of El Paso's largest school districts will no longer require face coverings on school campuses, after Gov. Greg Abbott's executive order banning mask requirements in public schools goes into effect next week.
Ysleta and El Paso Independent School Districts' last day of in-person classes will be held past Abbott's executive order deadline, so the two districts will no longer require face masks on school campuses for the remainder of the school year.
YISD's last day of classes is June 11. EPISD's last day of classes is June 15.
Abbott issued an executive order May 18 banning mask requirements in Texas public schools after June 4. Defying the order could result in a fine up to $1,000.
