FARMINGTON -- After many months of discussion and legal wrangling, the Farmington solar project is moving ahead.
According to Ron Brand, director of planning and development for Farmington, the Planning Board approved on Dec. 16, with some conditions, the final site plan and final subdivision plan for the solar farm, which would sit on approximately 35 acres of the Roger and Carol Smith Farm.
The next steps for the solar farm, according to Brand, involves approving the decommissioning plan, which must be done by the Town Board and the Planning Board. Any approval can only be done after Brand and attorneys representing Farmington meet with legal counsel from the project’s developer, Delaware River Solar, to discuss and resolve changes asked for by the town. After that step is completed, a pre-construction meeting is the next step, provided a surety bond is filed with the Town Clerk, Brand said.
